Usually, yes. Removing a game from the PlayStation Store normally stops new purchases; it does not automatically remove a completed digital purchase from the buyer’s library. On PS4 and PS5, sign in to the account that paid for the game and check Game Library. On PS3 and PS Vita, Sony says previously purchased content will remain downloadable for the foreseeable future, although Store closures are being introduced in stages by market.
That access is conditional rather than a permanent ownership guarantee. The result depends on whether you bought a personal license or received the game through PlayStation Plus, whether the purchasing account is still active, which console version you own, and whether the title requires servers that have shut down.

What “delisted” means for an existing digital purchase
A delisting generally removes a game’s Store page or purchase button for new customers. It is not, by itself, evidence that Sony has revoked the entitlement of people who already completed a purchase. PlayStation’s current guidance places PS4 and PS5 purchases in the Game Library of the account that bought them.

Sony’s March 2026 US Terms of Service describe a Store transaction as “a personal license to use that product for private, non-commercial use.” The same section says the license is not transferable unless local law requires otherwise. Closing or deleting the purchasing account can therefore remove the practical ability to use the game, even if the title is no longer sold to anyone else.

“Still playable” also has two separate meanings:
- Can you download and launch the software? Existing entitlements usually remain available through the relevant library or download list.
- Do all of the game’s features still work? Multiplayer, authentication, leaderboards and other online functions may disappear when the publisher or Sony shuts down servers. Some games retain their offline modes; games built around a live connection may stop launching altogether.
Check which kind of access you had
The first diagnostic question is whether the game was purchased separately or supplied as a PlayStation Plus benefit. These are different entitlements, even if the game was installed on the same console.

If you are unsure, open your account’s transaction history. A completed paid transaction is evidence of a purchase license; a download made while a Plus subscription was active is not necessarily one. If another person bought the game and you accessed it through sharing, the purchasing account must remain available and its console-sharing or primary-console settings must still authorize your console.

What to expect on each PlayStation platform
PS5 and PS4
Sign in with the account that completed the transaction and open Game Library. A delisted game can remain listed there even when searching the Store no longer finds a buy button. The PS5 and PS4 versions are separate software entitlements in some cases, so confirm that the version you own is compatible with the console you are using.

If the game shows a padlock, a missing download button or an unexpected price, do not buy it again immediately. First verify the account, check hidden items, and restore licenses. A license refresh can correct a local console mismatch without changing the game’s Store availability.
PS3 and PS Vita
Sony announced on July 1, 2026 that PS3 Store closures would begin in selected markets during 2026, with PS3 and PS Vita closures in other countries scheduled for July 2027. The timing is staged; it is not accurate to say that every country’s legacy Store has already closed.
After the applicable closure date, Sony says there will be no new purchases on those devices, while previously purchased content will remain downloadable “for the foreseeable future.” That wording is an assurance of continued access, not an unlimited guarantee for every title and every future platform change.

Step-by-step: redownload a delisted purchase on PS5 or PS4
- Use the purchasing account. Sign out of guest or secondary profiles and sign in to the PlayStation Network account that paid for the game. If another household member bought it, use that person’s account or confirm that sharing is configured correctly.
- Confirm the transaction. Review account transaction history for the completed purchase. This separates a paid license from a PlayStation Plus catalog entitlement.
- Open Game Library. On the console, browse the account’s collection rather than relying on a current Store search. Search by the exact title and inspect hidden games if the item does not appear in the normal view.
- Check the platform version. Look for the PS4 or PS5 edition that matches the console. A license for one version does not prove that every remaster, cross-generation bundle or regional edition is included.
- Restore licenses. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses. Restart the console after the process and check the library again.
- Verify sharing settings. On PS5, review Console Sharing and Offline Play. On PS4, verify that the purchaser’s account has the console activated as its primary PS4. Sharing settings can explain why one profile sees a lock while the purchaser does not.
- Check PlayStation Plus status. If the game came from a catalog or monthly benefit, confirm that the subscription is active and that the title is still covered by that benefit. Do not treat the installed files as proof of a permanent purchase.
- Retry the download. Check PlayStation service status, install system updates, and try again. If the error persists, record the code and the account, console model and region involved before contacting PlayStation Support.
What to do on PS Vita
- Sign in with the account that originally obtained the game.
- Open the Vita’s download list through Options > Download List.
- Locate the previously purchased title and start the redownload.
- Confirm that the Vita has the required internet connection and remains activated for the account.
- If the item is absent or blocked, check Sony’s device-activation limits and the title’s regional availability before assuming that the delisting erased the purchase.
Because Sony’s legacy-platform guidance includes exceptions, a Vita redownload can fail even when the transaction is genuine. Preserve the account credentials and activation information rather than relying on an old memory-card installation alone.
Delisting and server shutdown are different events
A Store delisting affects distribution. A server shutdown affects network-dependent features. They can happen together, but one does not prove the other.

For a particular game, look for the publisher’s or PlayStation’s current service-termination notice. Check the exact platform version and region: a server can remain active for one edition while another has already lost online support. If a title performs an online authentication check at startup, even “single-player” content may be unavailable after shutdown.

The wrong account is signed in
Libraries are account-specific. A family member’s profile, a newly created account or an account from another region will not necessarily display the purchaser’s license. Switch to the account shown in transaction history before changing console settings.

The purchase was actually a Plus entitlement
Games downloaded from a Plus catalog can remain installed after a subscription ends, but installation does not preserve the right to launch them. Renewing the qualifying subscription or obtaining a separate purchase license is the relevant remedy, provided the title is still offered through that route.
Console sharing or primary activation changed
On PS5, only the account with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled can share its purchased games with other profiles on that console. On PS4, the purchaser’s primary-console activation serves a similar role. A changed console, a deactivated system or a new account-sharing arrangement can produce a padlock without any delisting being involved.
The local license cache is out of sync
Restore Licenses is designed for this situation. It does not recreate a purchase that never existed, but it can reconnect a valid entitlement to the installed console.

The game’s services ended
If the title requires a live server, restoring licenses cannot restore a service that Sony or the publisher has permanently retired. Determine whether the game has an offline mode or an unavoidable online login before spending time reinstalling it.

Account and hardware precautions
- Keep the purchasing account active and protect its sign-in details. Sony’s terms warn that deleting or closing the account may result in loss of access.
- Do not uninstall a delisted game merely to “test” whether it can be recovered unless you have confirmed its listing in the appropriate library or download list.
- Back up compatible save data separately. A save backup does not create a game license, but it can protect progress if a reinstall or console replacement becomes necessary.
- Record the console generation, region, edition and transaction date when seeking support. Those details help distinguish a missing license from a compatibility or service problem.
- Expect online requirements to change. A game that works offline today can later lose a network-dependent mode, while a game that requires a server at launch may stop functioning entirely.
How to evaluate a specific delisted title
For a firm answer about one game, check these five facts in order:
- Purchase status: Is there a completed paid transaction, or only a Plus entitlement?
- Account: Is the original purchasing account active, and is the console authorized for sharing or primary use?
- Platform: Is the game a PS3, Vita, PS4 or PS5 release, and is that exact version compatible with the current hardware?
- Library listing: Does it appear in Game Library on PS4/PS5 or Download List on Vita, using the purchasing account?
- Service dependency: Does the title offer offline play, or does it require an operating publisher service?
Regional differences matter. A Store closure date, catalog listing and server policy can vary by country, so advice based on another region’s account or console may not apply. Sony’s July 2026 announcement specifically describes a staged legacy-Store schedule, including closures in some markets during 2026 and other countries in July 2027.
Bottom line for digital owners
A delisting normally blocks new sales, not the download of a completed purchase. Start with the purchasing account’s library, restore licenses when necessary, and verify sharing or Plus status before treating a lock as permanent. Then check the title’s server situation: offline content may survive an online shutdown, while an online-only game may become unplayable. Existing access should be treated as conditional and account-based, not as a promise that every delisted game can always be redownloaded or that every feature will remain available.
