Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA are listed as remaining playable; MyCAREER, MyTEAM, multiplayer, and other features that need 2K’s servers will not be available.
The shutdown is scheduled, not yet completed: 2K’s notice, updated October 2, 2026, says online features end after December 31, 2026, with affected modes unavailable beginning January 1, 2027. 2K’s NBA 2K25 server-sunset notice has the current details.

When do NBA 2K25’s servers shut down?
2K lists December 31, 2026, as the final day for online features and services. The company says online modes will be inaccessible starting January 1, 2027. These are announced dates as of October 7, 2026, not confirmation that the shutdown has already happened.

2K’s game-specific sunset notice gives the purchase and mode details. Its online-services status table also lists December 31, 2026, as NBA 2K25’s retirement date.

Which modes remain playable offline?
2K specifically names these offline modes as remaining available after the sunset:
- Play Now
- MyNBA
- The W
- MyWNBA
The broader status table additionally lists MyLeague/MyGM and 2KU/Learn 2K among modes or features that remain. That does not guarantee every option inside a listed mode will work: 2K says features that require its servers will be unavailable, and it does not itemize every server-dependent sub-feature.

What stops working?
- MyCAREER and MyTEAM: 2K says these modes will no longer be available.
- VC earning: You will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency.
- Online play: Multiplayer games and Online Leagues will be unavailable.
- Community sharing: Sharing features that rely on 2K’s servers will stop working.
- Other server-dependent features: Anything requiring a connection to 2K’s services will not function after retirement.
Buying or owning the game does not preserve these online-dependent modes or services.
Can you redownload the game after the shutdown?
2K says existing owners will still be able to redownload NBA 2K25 and play offline modes. The notice does not specify platform, region, storefront, or how long redownload access is guaranteed, so treat this as 2K’s general statement rather than an indefinite guarantee for every account or store.

The game is scheduled to leave purchase availability on October 30, 2026. If you are considering a purchase for offline play, check that the copy matches your platform and that the mode you want is explicitly listed as offline; buying a copy will not retain MyCAREER, MyTEAM, online play, or VC earning after retirement.

At launch, Take-Two said an internet connection and online account were required for online features and bonus content, including MyCAREER, MyTEAM, MyNBA, The W Online, and Play Now Online. It also identified ProPLAY, The City, The W, and MyNBA as New Gen-only features. Those launch-era requirements help explain why some features rely on online services, but 2K’s later sunset notice is the controlling source for what remains available after retirement.
