Yes. In the Ice and Fire mod, the general way to tame a dragon is to hatch an egg; the guide reviewed for this article says you cannot tame a wild dragon directly. The egg’s type determines how to hatch it, and ownership rules can differ by mod version.
How to tame a dragon in Ice and Fire
Get a dragon egg, hatch it using the condition for its type, then use a Dragon Command Staff to direct the hatchling. The exact mechanics can vary between releases, so check the instructions for the Ice and Fire version in your modpack.
1. Obtain an egg
The community Dragon Egg reference says eggs can come from female stage 4 or larger dragons, including by collecting an egg from a defeated dragon. It also describes breeding adult dragons as another possible source. Breeding availability may depend on your release.
2. Hatch it according to its type
There are three egg types, and they do not share one incubation method:

| Egg type | Hatching condition described |
|---|---|
| Fire | Fire |
| Ice | Water that can freeze |
| Lightning | Rain or a thunderstorm |
These conditions are described in the Dragon Taming and Care guide and the community Dragon Egg reference. Their precise implementation may differ by release, so use instructions matching your installed version.
3. Check who owns the hatchling
Ownership at hatching is version-sensitive. The community Dragon Egg reference says a nearby player receives a tamed hatchling, while a historical Ice and Fire changelog excerpt on Minecraft Forum records a change to assign the dragon to the player who placed the egg rather than the closest player. Do not assume either rule applies to every release; check your version’s behavior and, if ownership matters, have the intended owner place the egg.
