Yes—if your goal is to move a Pokémon between compatible game saves on the same Nintendo Switch. Use the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon HOME and select the user whose save data you want to access. This is a transfer through HOME, not a direct in-game trade between two trainers.
Move a Pokémon between profiles with Pokémon HOME
Nintendo says Pokémon HOME on a console can access compatible game save data belonging to other users on that same system. Pokémon Support also confirms that the Switch version of HOME can be used to trade between family members. In practice, you move a Pokémon through HOME storage from one profile’s compatible game save to another’s.
- Open Pokémon HOME on the Nintendo Switch.
- Choose the Pokémon menu, then select the compatible game you want to use.
- When prompted, select the user whose save data you want HOME to access.
- Move the Pokémon between that game’s save and HOME storage. Select the other user’s save and move it into the destination game, then save your changes.
- Before confirming, check whether the Pokémon is compatible with the destination game. HOME indicates when a Pokémon cannot be moved to a particular game; you can also check its connected-games information.
The HOME connection and transfer steps described by Pokémon Support do not require a Nintendo Switch Online membership. That statement applies to the HOME transfer route, not necessarily to online features in individual Pokémon games.
Is this the same as an in-game trade?
No. A HOME transfer moves Pokémon between HOME storage and compatible game saves; it does not complete an in-game trade with a second trainer. Nintendo’s instructions describe direct trades as multiplayer interactions. For example, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet support trading with other players through local wireless or online multiplayer, with two to four players taking part.

Check compatibility and one-way transfers
Not every Pokémon can move into every supported game. Check HOME’s connected-games information for the individual Pokémon before transferring it, and consult Nintendo’s list of supported Switch games: Nintendo’s Pokémon HOME FAQ and Pokémon Support’s compatibility information.
Some moves are also not reversible across game families. Pokémon Support warns that a Pokémon moved to Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield cannot necessarily be returned to Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, even if it was originally caught in a Let’s Go game. Check the destination and return compatibility before confirming: Pokémon Support: trading between family members in Pokémon HOME.

Which method should you use?
| What you want to do | Use this method | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Move a Pokémon between compatible saves on one Switch | Pokémon HOME on Switch | Select each user’s save in HOME. Check destination compatibility; the documented transfer steps do not require Nintendo Switch Online. |
| Complete a direct trade inside a Pokémon game | The game’s local wireless or online multiplayer trading feature | This is a trade with another player, not a transfer between your own saves. Scarlet and Violet instructions describe two to four players trading together. |
For details on direct trading in Scarlet and Violet, see Nintendo’s trading instructions. Pokémon HOME’s mobile app has separate features—Wonder Box, GTS, Room Trade, and Friend Trade—that connect you with other Trainers. Pokémon Support says creating a Room Trade requires a paid Premium Plan; that is separate from the Switch transfer steps above.
