Can You Transfer Minecraft From Phone to Computer? Yes—Here’s How to Move Your World

You can move a mobile Minecraft Bedrock world to a Windows PC, but your phone purchase does not usually unlock the PC version. Here are the safest transfer methods.

Yes, usually—but the answer depends on what you mean by “transfer Minecraft.” A mobile purchase from Google Play or the App Store does not normally unlock the PC version. However, a Minecraft Bedrock world from Android or iPhone can be moved to a Windows PC running Bedrock Edition.

The easiest official method is to upload the world to Minecraft Realms, sign in with the same Microsoft account on the computer, and download it. Android users may also copy a world by USB when it is stored in Minecraft’s External storage location.

First, identify what you want to transfer

“Transfer Minecraft” can mean several different things:

  • The game purchase: a phone-store purchase generally does not provide a PC license.
  • Your Microsoft account: this restores account-linked services such as your Xbox profile, Marketplace access, Realms, and supported multiplayer features.
  • A local world: this must be uploaded, downloaded, exported, or copied. Signing in alone does not copy it.
  • Ongoing progress on both devices: this is best handled by playing through a Bedrock Realm rather than keeping two unrelated local copies.

Which phone-to-computer combinations work?

Phone Computer Result
Android Windows PC running Bedrock Supported through Realms or, in some cases, a USB file transfer.
iPhone or iPad Windows PC running Bedrock Supported; Realms is the clearest official route.
Android or iPhone Mac Not a direct match: macOS officially uses Java Edition.
Android or iPhone Linux Not a direct match: Linux officially uses Java Edition.
Any mobile device Windows PC running Java only Not directly compatible. Use Bedrock Edition for Windows.

Minecraft on Android and iOS is Bedrock Edition. Windows supports both Bedrock and Java, while macOS and Linux officially support Java. See the official edition comparison and platform requirements.

  • Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
  • Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only

Do you need to buy Minecraft again?

Moving from a phone to a Windows PC usually requires access to the PC edition separately. A purchase made through Google Play or Apple’s App Store is tied to that mobile platform and does not normally grant Minecraft for PC.

The current PC offering is Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC. It includes Bedrock Edition for Windows, which is the edition needed to open a mobile Bedrock world, as well as Java Edition. Do not assume the mobile purchase transfers to PC, and check the live official store for current regional pricing.

If you already own Minecraft for PC and are moving to a new computer, you do not normally need to purchase it again. Install the launcher and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the PC purchase. Microsoft’s new-device guidance covers this situation.

Best method: transfer the world with Realms

Realms is the simplest official method, particularly for iPhone and iPad users. It also works on Android and is useful if you want to switch between phone and computer repeatedly.

What you need

  • Minecraft Bedrock Edition on the phone and Windows PC.
  • The same Microsoft account signed in on both devices.
  • An active Bedrock Realm subscription or available trial.
  • Compatible, up-to-date Minecraft versions on both devices.
  • A world under the official Bedrock Realm upload limit of 4 GB per world, according to Microsoft’s Realm upload guidance.

Upload the phone world

  1. Open Minecraft on the phone and select Play.
  2. Open the Realms tab.
  3. Select the Realm you want to use and open its Settings.
  4. Select a Realm world slot.
  5. Choose Edit World.
  6. At the bottom of Game Settings, choose Upload World for an empty slot, or Replace World if you intend to overwrite the world already in that slot.
  7. Choose the mobile world and confirm the upload.

Download it on the computer

  1. Open Minecraft for Windows, not Java Edition.
  2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
  3. Select Play, then open the Realms tab.
  4. Select the Realm and open Settings.
  5. Select the Realm slot containing the uploaded world.
  6. Choose Edit World.
  7. At the bottom of Game Settings, select Download World.
  8. Return to the Worlds tab and open the downloaded copy.

The downloaded world normally appears with a name similar to “World name – Copy.” Menu names can vary by version, platform, language, or update. Microsoft’s official transfer instructions are the reference if a label differs.

  • Build whatever you can imagine in your own infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.

Protect the original world

  • Confirm that the phone contains the newest version of the world.
  • Make a backup where possible.
  • Do not replace the wrong Realm slot.
  • Keep the original phone world until the PC copy opens and has been checked.
  • Avoid making changes on both devices during the transfer.

Free alternative: copy a world from Android by USB

Android can offer a no-subscription option, but only when the world is accessible through Minecraft’s External storage setting.

Check Android’s storage location

  1. Open Minecraft on Android.
  2. Select Settings, then Storage.
  3. Check File Storage Location.
  4. Use External for worlds that need to be accessible as ordinary files.

Worlds stored in Application storage are held inside Minecraft’s application data and cannot simply be browsed as a normal folder. Switching storage locations can also change which worlds appear. See Microsoft’s Android storage explanation.

Copy the files

  1. Connect the Android phone to the computer with a USB cable.
  2. Open the phone’s USB notification and choose File Transfer or MTP.
  3. On the computer, browse to:
Android/data/com.mojang.minecraftpe/files/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds
  1. Copy the relevant world folder, or the minecraftWorlds folder, to the computer.
  2. Import the world into Minecraft Bedrock for Windows using the file-management or import controls available in that build.

The source path and Android copy process are documented in Microsoft’s official Android instructions. The destination folder and import interface can vary between Windows Bedrock builds, so do not assume every installation uses identical menus.

How iPhone and iPad transfers differ

Do not apply the Android USB instructions to iPhone. iOS keeps Minecraft application data in a more restricted environment, and signing into the same Microsoft account does not automatically copy locally stored worlds.

For iPhone or iPad to Windows, Realms is the safest official workflow: upload the world from the Bedrock app, then download it in Minecraft for Windows. Keep the original iOS world until the download has been verified. Unofficial file-management or conversion workarounds may exist, but they are not a general first-party transfer path and can carry compatibility, privacy, or corruption risks.

Bedrock versus Java: the important warning

A mobile Bedrock world cannot be opened directly in Java Edition. Java and Bedrock are separate editions with different save formats and cross-play systems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Edition Typical platforms Cross-play
Bedrock Android, iOS, Windows Supported Bedrock devices can play together.
Java Windows, macOS, Linux Java players on supported desktop platforms can play together.

If your computer is a Windows PC, choose Bedrock Edition to continue a phone world. If it is a Mac or Linux computer, there is no direct official mobile-Bedrock-to-Java transfer path documented here. Third-party converters may handle some cases, but they are unofficial and may cause lost data, broken entities, incompatible add-ons, or world corruption.

What transfers—and what may not

A successful Bedrock world transfer should preserve the world data, including its terrain, builds, inventories, and world settings. However, not every surrounding feature behaves like a simple file copy.

  • Microsoft-account content: Xbox profile, Realms access, and Marketplace purchases are tied to the relevant Microsoft account. Signing in with a different account can make them appear to be missing. See Microsoft’s account guidance.
  • Add-ons and packs: Marketplace content, resource packs, behavior packs, templates, and third-party add-ons may require installation on the PC and may have version or platform limitations.
  • Controls: touch controls, key bindings, controller settings, and other device-specific preferences do not transfer as gameplay progress.
  • Experimental features and achievements: achievements can be affected by Creative mode, cheats, or experimental settings. Do not assume a transfer changes those rules.
  • Copies: downloading from Realms creates a local copy; it does not delete the original mobile world.

One-time copy or ongoing synchronization?

A downloaded Realm world and a live Realm are different:

  • Downloaded copy: the phone and computer each have separate local versions. Progress made on one device will not automatically appear on the other.
  • Realm: the world remains hosted online, so you can play from supported Bedrock devices through the Realm. This is the better choice when you regularly switch between phone and PC.

Realms is edition-specific: use a Bedrock Realm for mobile and Windows Bedrock. A Java Realm is not a way to make a mobile Bedrock world compatible with Java. See the official Realms information.

Mattel Games UNO Minecraft Card Game with Storage Tin,Ages 7+
  • The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
  • UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
  • Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
  • The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
  • Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.

Troubleshooting

The world does not appear on the PC

  1. Confirm both devices use the same Microsoft account.
  2. Confirm the PC is running Bedrock Edition, not Java.
  3. Check that the Realm upload completed.
  4. Update Minecraft on both devices.
  5. Look under Play → Realms, not only the local Worlds list.
  6. Download the world from the Realm after uploading it.

The wrong Android worlds appear

Open Settings → Storage and check whether Minecraft is using Application or External storage. Worlds in different storage locations may not appear together.

The Realm upload fails

Check the world size, connection stability, device versions, and selected Realm slot. A world over the official 4 GB Bedrock upload limit cannot be uploaded normally. Preserve the original, try an empty slot, update both devices, and only remove unnecessary packs or reduce the world after making a backup.

The PC has only Java Edition

On Windows, install or launch Bedrock Edition through the Minecraft Launcher. The mobile world belongs in Bedrock, not Java. The PC bundle includes both editions for Windows; see the official PC guidance.

Marketplace content or Realms is missing

Check that the computer uses the Microsoft account originally linked to the mobile Minecraft profile. The Microsoft account is separate from the Google Play or Apple account used to download the app. A different Microsoft account may not have the same Marketplace purchases, profile, or Realm access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The world opens but an add-on is missing

Check whether the add-on is installed on the PC, belongs to the same Microsoft account, supports the PC Bedrock build, and is compatible with the world’s experimental settings. Third-party packs are especially unlikely to behave identically across devices.

The short decision guide

  • Windows PC and iPhone: use Realms.
  • Windows PC and Android: use Realms, or USB if the world is stored in External storage.
  • Mac or Linux: there is no direct official mobile-Bedrock-to-Java route. Use Windows Bedrock for the direct edition match, or investigate unofficial conversion cautiously.
  • You already own Minecraft for PC: install the launcher and sign in with the owning Microsoft account; do not repurchase merely because the computer is new.
  • You want to switch devices repeatedly: keep the world on a Bedrock Realm instead of relying on separate local copies.
