Can You Transfer Pokémon from Original Ruby and Sapphire to Pokémon HOME?

Original Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire cannot connect directly to Pokémon HOME. The documented path starts with Pal Park, then relies on later games and Pokémon Bank.

No—not directly. Pokémon from the original Game Boy Advance versions of Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire need to pass through compatible later-generation games and transfer services before reaching Pokémon HOME. The documented first step is Pal Park in a compatible Generation IV game; Pokémon Bank is the later bridge to HOME.

What is the documented route from GBA Ruby and Sapphire?

The route is a chain, not a connection from a GBA cartridge straight to HOME. Nintendo’s Pokémon Platinum manual specifically documents migrating Pokémon from Ruby and Sapphire through Pal Park. Nintendo’s compatibility information identifies later games and services involved in transfers toward Pokémon Bank and HOME, but the official sources cited here do not establish every intermediate step or hardware combination as a complete, model-by-model guide.

Stage What the official information establishes Important limit
Original GBA Ruby or Sapphire → Pokémon Platinum The Platinum manual documents migration through Pal Park; you must have obtained the National Pokédex. The migration is one-way: the Pokémon cannot return to the GBA game. The manual’s documented example is Platinum; confirm a particular Generation IV game’s compatibility before planning around it.
Later games → Pokémon Bank Nintendo lists Pokémon Black, White, Black Version 2 and White Version 2 as Poké Transporter source games. The Pokémon Bank page also describes Poké Transporter use with Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, X and Y. These lists cover different scopes; they do not make original GBA Ruby and Sapphire Poké Transporter source games. See Nintendo’s compatibility list and the Pokémon Bank page for their stated compatibility.
Pokémon Bank → Pokémon HOME HOME accepts transfers from Bank; the transfer requires Pokémon HOME Premium. Pokémon moved from Bank to HOME cannot be returned to Bank or used with 3DS games. Transfer procedure options are described by Pokémon Support and Nintendo Support.

Can you use Poké Transporter directly with the original cartridges?

No. The original GBA games are not listed as Poké Transporter source games in Nintendo’s compatibility information. Do not confuse them with the later 3DS remakes, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, which are named in the Bank-related compatibility information. HOME’s game connections are title-specific, so getting a Pokémon into HOME does not guarantee it can be moved into every later game; see the Pokémon HOME overview.

What must you check before starting?

  • Confirm the first bridge: the Platinum manual’s Pal Park migration requires the National Pokédex and permanently removes the migrated Pokémon from the GBA game.
  • Check access to legacy software: Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter are no longer available for download. If you never installed the required apps, you may not be able to assemble the route through ordinary downloads.
  • Check the deadline: Pokémon Bank service is announced to end on 26 February 2027 at 03:00 UTC. After that, Bank-to-HOME transfers will no longer be possible. Check the current Bank service information before making plans, since service availability can change.
  • Plan for one-way moves: migration through Pal Park cannot be reversed, and the Bank-to-HOME move cannot be reversed either.

What is not established by the available official instructions?

The sources cited here establish Pal Park as the documented GBA-to-Generation-IV bridge and Bank as the bridge to HOME, but they do not provide a complete walkthrough of every Generation IV-to-V transfer, game-specific unlock, or console and cartridge combination. Check the manuals and compatibility information for each game in the chain before moving a Pokémon. Avoid treating the stages as a single direct transfer or assuming a Pokémon will be usable in every HOME-connected title.
