You can turn off blood effects in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice by pausing the game and choosing Settings → Game Options, then setting blood to OFF. It does not disable all gore or violence: FromSoftware warns that some Shinobi Execution Arts may still show blood, and its manual does not promise that every cutscene is affected.
How to turn blood off in Sekiro
- Pause during play.
- Select Settings.
- Open Game Options.
- Set blood to OFF.
FromSoftware’s official Windows PC manual documents this option in the pause-menu settings. It also notes that, for presentation reasons, blood may remain visible in some Shinobi Execution Arts even when the setting is OFF. This is a translation of the manual’s Japanese text, not an English-language quotation.

What the blood setting does—and does not—change
The documented option turns off blood effects; the manual does not describe it as a complete gore or violence filter. The ESRB rating entry describes large blood splatters as enemies are killed, along with some decapitation and/or dismemberment. It does not say those depictions disappear when blood is switched off.
Cutscenes are not fully covered by the documentation
ESRB’s content summary also describes violent cutscene events, including a man impaled through the chest with a sword and a child stabbed off screen. The reviewed manual does not specify whether the blood option affects every cutscene, so do not assume that cutscene blood is consistently removed.

Does turning blood off make Sekiro suitable for younger players?
No such conclusion follows from the setting alone. ESRB rates Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Mature 17+, with the descriptors Blood and Gore and Violence. Turning off blood does not change that rating or remove the documented violence. If you are deciding whether the game is appropriate for a younger player, consider the rating and content summary rather than treating the setting as a content filter.
Platform and menu-label context
FromSoftware’s cited manual is for the Windows PC version. ESRB lists Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and Microsoft’s Xbox Store listing covers the Game of the Year Edition on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. These sources establish platform availability, but do not confirm that menu labels are identical across every platform or game build.
