Yes, but not with the same hardware everywhere. Epic’s published compatibility table lists guitar controllers for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. It does not list a Nintendo Switch guitar. Fortnite Festival itself runs on all four platforms, and every platform can play Pro Lead and Pro Bass with keyboard, mouse, or a standard controller, so a guitar peripheral is optional.

What Epic has—and has not—confirmed
Epic’s Season 3 announcement said: “You can now use your Rock Band 4 guitar controllers to go all out on new Pro Lead and Pro Bass song parts on the Main Stage on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC!” That statement establishes the three platforms named in the announcement, while the accompanying compatibility table supplies the model-level detail.

Fortnite is downloadable on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series, and Nintendo Switch, but a platform’s ability to run Fortnite does not automatically make every music-game peripheral compatible.
The current Epic Player Support explanation describes keyboard/mouse, controller, and guitar controllers as supported input categories for Pro Lead and Pro Bass. It does not provide a newer platform-by-platform model matrix in the material available here. Therefore, the 2024 list is the specific compatibility reference, not a claim that Epic has recently retested every hardware revision, firmware version, or adapter.
Platform-by-platform guidance
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
On PlayStation, match the guitar to the PlayStation family rather than buying an Xbox or generic PC version. Epic lists the PlayStation RIFFMASTER and two PS4 Rock Band 4 Fender models. The PlayStation Direct description for the PlayStation RIFFMASTER covers PS5, PS4, Fortnite Festival, and Rock Band 4, and identifies a wireless dongle and charging cable in the package.
A PS4-labeled Fender guitar is the model Epic names for the PlayStation side of the table. Keep the console generation and the platform marking together when shopping: a guitar made for Xbox is not interchangeable simply because both consoles run Fortnite.

Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
Epic lists the Xbox RIFFMASTER plus the Xbox One Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Fender Stratocaster. Those models are listed for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Check that the listing says Xbox One or Xbox rather than PlayStation before ordering, because the wireless and console-authentication hardware is platform-specific.
The Xbox One label on the older Rock Band 4 guitars does not mean they are limited to an Xbox One console in Epic’s table; the same entries are shown for the Series generation. Keep the original receiver or other required accessory with a used guitar, and confirm what the seller actually includes.
Windows PC
Epic names the Xbox RIFFMASTER and the Xbox One Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster for PC. The older Xbox One Fender models have an explicit requirement: Microsoft’s Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10. A PC with Bluetooth or a USB port alone should not be assumed to replace that adapter.
Epic’s table lists the Xbox RIFFMASTER for PC without the same adapter note. That does not establish that every computer configuration will be plug-and-play; it means the published table does not attach the Xbox One adapter requirement to that model. Verify the connection method, included receiver, operating-system support, and current firmware instructions for the exact revision you are buying.

Nintendo Switch
Epic’s reviewed compatibility table contains no Switch guitar model. The accurate conclusion is narrower than “guitars never work on Switch”: Epic has not confirmed a Switch guitar in that official list. Third-party converters, legacy accessories, or community workarounds may exist, but they are outside the compatibility Epic names and can depend on firmware, adapters, game updates, or controller authentication.
Switch owners can still play Fortnite Festival and its guitar-style parts with the supported non-guitar inputs described below. If a physical guitar is the main reason for buying hardware, do not treat a Switch listing as officially supported unless Epic adds the model to its own documentation.
You do not need a guitar controller
Pro Lead and Pro Bass are playable on every supported platform without a guitar peripheral. Epic added keyboard-and-mouse keybinds for fretting and strumming. A standard controller can be used as well, and Epic says controller-to-keyboard remapping and accessibility devices can send those same inputs.
- Keyboard and mouse: assign the fretting and strumming actions to keys through Fortnite’s input settings.
- Standard game controller: use the controller bindings supported by your console or PC version of Fortnite.
- Remapping and accessibility hardware: devices that generate the documented keyboard or controller inputs can provide an alternative layout.
- Guitar controller: optional, intended for players who want the physical strum bar and fret-button experience.
This option is especially important on Switch, where Epic’s listed guitar matrix does not establish a compatible guitar. It also lets a new player try Pro parts before spending money on discontinued or used music-game hardware.
How to choose a compatible guitar
- Identify the device first. Write down the exact target: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or Windows PC. “Fortnite Festival compatible” by itself is not a sufficient specification.
- Match the platform label. Select a PlayStation-marked guitar for PlayStation, an Xbox-marked guitar for Xbox, and one of the Xbox models Epic lists for PC. Do not assume cross-platform operation from a similar shape or connector.
- Check the model name against Epic’s table. For example, distinguish the Xbox One Fender Jaguar from a different Rock Band guitar, and distinguish the PlayStation RIFFMASTER from the Xbox RIFFMASTER.
- Account for PC accessories. If you are buying an Xbox One Rock Band 4 Fender for Windows 10, budget for and locate Microsoft’s Xbox One Wireless Adapter. Ask a used seller whether the adapter is included or must be purchased separately.
- Confirm what is in the package. For wireless products, check for the receiver or dongle, charging cable, batteries if applicable, and any platform-specific documentation. The PlayStation RIFFMASTER product information specifically mentions a wireless dongle and charging cable.
- Check the return policy. Epic’s list is a compatibility reference, not a guarantee for every hardware revision, firmware state, USB chipset, or unofficial adapter. A return window matters when buying older second-hand equipment.
- Update Fortnite and the controller. Install the current Fortnite update and follow the manufacturer’s firmware or pairing instructions before diagnosing an in-game problem.

- Install or update Fortnite on the target platform and launch Fortnite Festival from inside the game.
- Connect the guitar’s receiver, cable, or wireless link according to the model instructions. On Windows 10, connect the required Xbox One Wireless Adapter before opening the game when using an Xbox One Rock Band 4 Fender.
- Turn on the guitar and complete the console or Windows pairing process. Confirm that the operating system or console sees the controller before entering a song.
- Open Fortnite’s controller or input settings and look for the guitar’s fret and strum inputs. If the guitar is recognized as a standard controller, check whether its buttons need to be remapped.
- Enter a Festival song that offers Pro Lead or Pro Bass and test every fret lane, the strum action, and any overdrive or special controls before starting a scored run.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The guitar powers on but Fortnite does not respond
- Recheck the platform version printed on the guitar. An Xbox model connected to a PlayStation console is not made compatible by a USB cable.
- On PC, verify the Xbox One Wireless Adapter requirement for the older Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster models.
- Reconnect the receiver directly rather than through an unpowered hub, then restart Fortnite after pairing.
- Test the controller at the console or in Windows before changing Fortnite bindings. If the system itself cannot see it, the problem is connection, receiver, batteries, or firmware rather than a Festival song setting.
Only some buttons work
Partial input can indicate an incorrect controller profile, outdated firmware, or a missing receiver. Re-pair the guitar, check the manufacturer’s instructions for that exact revision, and inspect Fortnite’s input mapping. Do not conclude that a model is fully supported merely because one button navigates a menu.
A Switch setup works in another game but not in Festival
That result does not establish Fortnite Festival compatibility. Epic’s published table does not name a Switch guitar, and another game may use a different input protocol or accept an adapter that Festival does not recognize. Use keyboard, mouse, or a standard controller for the officially documented route on Switch.

The clearest named current option in the official material is the PDP RIFFMASTER, but select the PlayStation version for PS4/PS5 or the Xbox version for Xbox One/Series and PC. It is not a four-platform solution, and the available sources do not establish a Switch version for Fortnite Festival.

What is still uncertain
Official compatibility lists cannot answer every question about used hardware. They do not establish results for every hardware revision, unofficial adapter, firmware combination, USB hub, operating-system build, or future Fortnite update. They also do not provide a current price, stock status, latency measurement, or failure rate. Treat those as separate purchasing and troubleshooting questions rather than assuming that an entry in the 2024 table guarantees identical behavior forever.
For a present-day purchase, use Epic’s named models as the eligibility check, then verify the exact accessory bundle and return terms with the retailer. If no model is listed for your platform, the supported keyboard, mouse, or standard-controller path remains the dependable way to play Pro Lead and Pro Bass.
The practical answer
Use a PlayStation-listed guitar on PS4 or PS5, an Xbox-listed guitar on Xbox One or Series X|S, and the Xbox models Epic lists for Windows PC—with the Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 when using the older Rock Band 4 Fender guitars. Fortnite Festival is available on Nintendo Switch, but Epic’s published compatibility table does not confirm a Switch guitar. On every platform, a guitar is optional because Pro Lead and Pro Bass also accept keyboard, mouse, standard-controller, and remapped accessibility inputs.
