Short answer: your PC matches Phantom Blade Zero’s published minimum example if it has an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, a GeForce GTX 1660 with 6 GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB, 16 GB of RAM, Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), DirectX 12, and an SSD for the installation. Steam’s stated minimum target is 1080p at 30 FPS with upscaling enabled. The recommended example raises the bar to a Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 3060 Ti (8 GB) or RX 6700 XT (12 GB), targeting 1440p at 60 FPS with upscaling enabled.
Those are published hardware examples, not a test of every equivalent desktop, laptop, or custom configuration. Compare your complete system against the tier, including CPU, GPU memory, system RAM, Windows architecture, DirectX support, and the drive where you will install the game.

What the minimum and recommended labels actually tell you
Minimum is a defined performance target, not a pass-or-fail guarantee
Steam associates the minimum tier with 1080p and 30 FPS when upscaling is enabled. That is the publisher’s stated goal for the listed configuration. It is not an independently measured result for your computer, and it does not promise that every scene, graphics preset, or future driver behaves identically.
A system that resembles the minimum tier should therefore be assessed against that 1080p/30-FPS-with-upscaling expectation. It should not be described as a 60-FPS machine simply because its graphics card has a familiar model number.
Recommended describes a higher target with the same RAM requirement
The recommended tier is aimed at 1440p and 60 FPS with upscaling enabled. It uses a faster listed processor and a substantially stronger graphics tier than the minimum examples, but it still specifies 16 GB of system RAM. More RAM is not automatically required just because a PC is being compared with the recommended row.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Upscaling is part of both published targets
Both performance notes explicitly include upscaling. In practical terms, the game may render internally at a lower resolution and reconstruct the displayed image to 1080p or 1440p. The listed targets should not be read as native-resolution, upscaling-disabled guarantees. The listings do not specify which upscaling technology, quality mode, graphics preset, or frame-time conditions were used.
How to check your own PC before comparing it
Use the exact model numbers rather than a broad family name such as “Core i7,” “Ryzen 5,” or “RTX graphics.” A six-year-old and a current processor can share a family label while delivering very different results.
1. Record the processor and installed RAM
- Open Settings > System > About in Windows.
- Copy the complete text shown beside Processor. Include the generation and suffix, such as “K,” “H,” or “U,” because those details identify a different chip or power class.
- Record Installed RAM. Both Phantom Blade Zero requirement tiers list 16 GB, so capacity is a direct comparison point.
- Check System type and confirm that Windows reports a 64-bit operating system.
You can also press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, choose Performance, and select CPU or Memory to verify the model and usable memory while other programs are closed.
2. Identify the exact graphics processor and VRAM
- Open Task Manager > Performance > GPU.
- Record the complete GPU name and the value labeled Dedicated GPU memory or Dedicated GPU memory usage.
- If more than one GPU appears, note which one is discrete and which one is integrated. A laptop may list an integrated graphics processor alongside a dedicated mobile GPU.
- For a second check, run
dxdiagby pressing Win + R, enteringdxdiag, and opening the Display tabs.
Do not compare only the number “1660,” “3060,” or “6700.” The minimum examples require a GTX 1660 with 6 GB or an RX 5500 XT with 8 GB; the recommended examples require an RTX 3060 Ti with 8 GB or an RX 6700 XT with 12 GB. The VRAM amount is part of each listed example.

3. Confirm Windows and DirectX support
In Settings > System > About, verify that the edition is Windows 10 or Windows 11 and that the system type is 64-bit. Then run dxdiag and look at the System tab for DirectX Version. The official requirements specify DirectX 12.
The DirectX line alone does not make an otherwise underpowered PC meet the requirement. Treat operating system, 64-bit architecture, graphics hardware, and processor as separate checks.
4. Make sure the installation destination is an SSD
Steam states that an SSD installation is required, but the listing does not specify NVMe versus SATA, a minimum capacity, or a particular model. Check the drive that will contain the game rather than assuming that a PC with any SSD has every drive available for installation.
- Open Task Manager > Performance and select each disk to see whether Windows identifies it as an SSD or HDD.
- Alternatively, open Defragment and Optimize Drives and inspect the Media type column.
- When installing, select a library or folder located on the SSD. A PC that has an SSD for Windows but places the game on a mechanical hard drive does not meet the stated storage condition for that installation.
Compare the complete system, not one headline component
CPU comparison
The minimum row names the Core i7-8700K and Ryzen 5 3600; the recommended row names the Core i5-10600K and Ryzen 5 5600X. These labels are the comparison anchors supplied by Steam and Epic. A processor that is newer in release date is not automatically equivalent, and a laptop processor with the same family name can operate under a different power limit.
If your CPU is below the minimum examples, the available requirements do not establish a frame rate for it. If it is between the two rows, describe the machine as an untested intermediate configuration rather than assigning it the recommended target.
GPU and VRAM comparison
The graphics processor is the largest difference between the two published tiers. Minimum examples are a GTX 1660 with 6 GB or RX 5500 XT with 8 GB. Recommended examples are an RTX 3060 Ti with 8 GB or RX 6700 XT with 12 GB.
VRAM is not interchangeable with system RAM. A card can have enough system memory available and still fall short of the VRAM amount shown in the graphics requirement. Conversely, meeting the VRAM number does not prove that the GPU’s rendering performance matches the listed model.

System RAM
Both tiers list 16 GB of RAM. This means RAM capacity by itself does not separate minimum from recommended. Check how much memory remains available after Windows and background software load, but do not turn the same 16 GB listing into an unsupported claim that 32 GB is required.
Operating system, DirectX, and storage
Windows 10/11 64-bit, DirectX 12, and SSD installation appear in both rows. A PC can have a suitable CPU and GPU but still fail the published combination if it runs a 32-bit operating system, lacks DirectX 12 support, or installs to a hard drive.
How to classify common mixed configurations
Your parts are close to the minimum row
If your CPU and GPU are comparable to the minimum examples, you have 16 GB of RAM, the required software environment, and an SSD, use the published minimum target as your reference: 1080p, 30 FPS, with upscaling enabled. Keep expectations tied to that target rather than assuming higher frame rates from a single component.
Your parts are close to the recommended row
If your CPU and GPU are comparable to the recommended examples and the rest of the requirements are satisfied, use 1440p at 60 FPS with upscaling enabled as the reference target. This remains a published target, not an individualized benchmark for your exact motherboard, cooling, driver version, or laptop power profile.
Your CPU is recommended but your GPU is minimum-level, or vice versa
Classify the system by the weaker relevant component and avoid assigning it the higher tier’s target. The official pages do not provide enough data to predict how a mixed CPU/GPU pairing will behave. Record the mismatch and treat the result as unverified rather than averaging the two labels.

A part below a listed example does not prove that the game cannot launch, but it does mean the official listings provide no stated performance target for that configuration. Do not promise playable performance, and do not treat a generic compatibility utility as a substitute for the game’s published requirements.
Laptop owners need an extra comparison step
Laptop GPUs often use a mobile implementation with different power limits, clock speeds, cooling, and memory configuration from a desktop card carrying a similar name. A laptop RTX, GTX, or Radeon label should therefore be recorded exactly, including any “Laptop GPU” or “Mobile” designation.

The same caution applies to laptop CPUs. A low-power chip may have the same broad family branding as a desktop part but behave differently under sustained load. The supplied requirements contain no benchmark results for laptop variants, so a model-name match is evidence for comparison, not a guarantee of the desktop target.
Also check which GPU the game will use. Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics lets you assign an application to a high-performance GPU when a laptop has both integrated and discrete graphics. This setting cannot turn an integrated GPU into an equivalent of one of the listed discrete cards.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIntegrated graphics and unusual configurations
The official listings name discrete NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards and do not provide a target for integrated graphics. If your PC reports only Intel UHD, Intel Arc integrated graphics, or an AMD integrated GPU, there is no published frame-rate figure to apply from these requirements.
Likewise, the listings do not cover external GPUs, virtual machines, cloud-streamed desktops, or unusual multi-GPU arrangements. Compare the physical graphics processor that will render the game and treat any configuration outside the named examples as unverified.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to upgrade—and what not to buy first
Prioritize an SSD only when you do not have a suitable installation drive
An SSD is the only storage category explicitly required. The listings do not state a capacity, interface, or model, so choose a drive that is compatible with your system and has enough free space for the game and normal Windows operation. The requirement alone does not justify naming a specific SSD product.
Check CPU and GPU compatibility before purchasing
CPU and GPU upgrades depend on the motherboard socket, firmware, power supply, case clearance, cooling, and—on laptops—whether the part is replaceable at all. Compare your complete system first. The published requirement names are useful reference points, but they are not a shopping list that makes every upgrade physically or electrically compatible.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Do not assume a RAM upgrade is necessary
Because both minimum and recommended rows specify 16 GB, RAM capacity is not the default upgrade for this game. Investigate memory only if your PC has less than 16 GB, Windows reports a faulty module, or another application is consuming an unusual amount of memory. Those are separate issues from moving between the two official performance tiers.

Settings choices that follow from the official targets
For a minimum-class PC
Start at 1080p with upscaling enabled, because that is the target attached to the minimum row. If the game offers a choice of upscaling modes or quality levels, change one setting at a time and observe whether frame pacing improves. The listings do not identify a preset or an upscaling mode, so any final setting is a user adjustment rather than an official promise.
For a recommended-class PC
Begin at 1440p with upscaling enabled, matching the recommended target. If your display is 1080p, you can still use the recommended hardware; the requirement does not force a particular monitor resolution. It simply states the higher target against which that tier is described.
Why native resolution may differ
Turning upscaling off changes the rendering workload. Since Steam’s figures include upscaling, they cannot be reused as a guarantee for native 1080p or native 1440p. The same caution applies when increasing a graphics preset, enabling expensive effects, or targeting a higher refresh rate.

Launch-day checks if performance is unexpected
If your computer matches a published tier but behaves differently, document the exact conditions before changing hardware.
- Confirm that the game is installed on the SSD, not a secondary hard drive.
- Recheck the active GPU in Task Manager, especially on a laptop with integrated and discrete adapters.
- Verify Windows is 64-bit and that
dxdiagreports DirectX 12. - Close unnecessary background applications and watch CPU, GPU, VRAM, and RAM usage in Task Manager.
- Start with the resolution and upscaling condition attached to your tier: 1080p/30 FPS for minimum or 1440p/60 FPS for recommended.
- Install current graphics drivers from the GPU manufacturer and restart Windows before retesting.
- Record whether the problem is an error at startup, stutter during asset loading, a sustained low frame rate, or a lack of storage space; each symptom points to a different investigation.
These checks can identify a misconfigured or incorrectly selected device, but they do not create a benchmark for hardware that falls outside the published examples.
Phantom Blade Zero release-date context
At the time of this guide, the game had not reached its listed release date. Steam and Epic display October 28, 2026, while the official S-GAME website displays October 29, 2026. The official pages differ by one day and do not explain why. Treat the storefront or publisher page you are using as the authoritative date for that platform and region, and do not describe the game as already launched.
A practical checklist
- CPU model recorded in full and compared with the listed Intel or AMD example.
- Discrete GPU model recorded in full, including “Laptop” or “Mobile” where applicable.
- VRAM checked against the 6 GB, 8 GB, or 12 GB figures in the relevant row.
- At least 16 GB of system RAM installed.
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 running as a 64-bit operating system.
- DirectX 12 support confirmed in
dxdiag. - Installation library located on an SSD.
- Performance expectation kept tied to the matching published target and its upscaling condition.
- No frame-rate guarantee assigned to an unlisted laptop, integrated-GPU, or mixed configuration.
If every item in the minimum checklist is satisfied, your PC aligns with Steam’s minimum example and its 1080p/30-FPS-with-upscaling target. If it aligns with the recommended CPU and GPU examples as well, use the 1440p/60-FPS-with-upscaling target. In either case, the listing is a useful baseline—not a substitute for testing your exact hardware after release.
