- Check PlayStation Network service status.
- Check Transaction History and your library.
- Read the exact error code.

1. Check PlayStation service status first
Open PlayStation’s official Network service-status page and check the indicators for PlayStation Store and Account Management. A service problem can prevent payment information from being recorded or stop wallet funds from being added.
This is a live check, not a permanent diagnosis. If either relevant service is experiencing an incident, wait until it is operational before changing your payment details or submitting the purchase again. Repeated attempts during an outage can make it harder to tell whether the purchase succeeded.

2. Check Transaction History before retrying
Sign in to Account Management, open Transaction History, select a suitable date range, and open the relevant entry. This tells you whether Sony recorded the purchase and can also reveal a charge you do not recognize.
If the purchase appears in Transaction History, do not buy the item again immediately. Check your Game Library first. If the item is a season pass, in-game currency, or other content that is not downloaded directly, check the service list on PS5:
Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Game and App Services

If the purchase is absent from Transaction History, continue with the payment and account checks below. If you see an unfamiliar charge, inspect your subscriptions and transaction details; if they do not explain it, contact PlayStation Support and secure your account rather than attempting another purchase.
3. Use the exact error code to identify the problem
A generic “cannot purchase” message does not distinguish a rejected card from a region restriction, insufficient wallet balance, service problem, or unavailable content. Record the complete error code and use it to choose the next step.

Error-code meanings and availability can change. If your code is not listed, use PlayStation’s official error-code index and follow the instructions for that exact code.
4. Verify the payment method and billing information
Confirm that the method is supported in your country
Payment options depend on the country or region of the PlayStation Store. On the United States Store page, Sony lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, and Cash App Pay, as well as wallet funds and PlayStation Store gift-card or top-up codes. That list should not be treated as universal: another country may support different methods.

The US guidance says an account can save up to three credit or debit cards and one payment service. Removing and re-adding methods repeatedly is not a good troubleshooting strategy, particularly if PlayStation has already warned that payment information was updated too often.
Check the card with the issuer
Confirm with your bank or card provider that:
- Online payments are enabled.
- The card is active and has not expired.
- Sufficient funds or credit are available.
- The issuer has not blocked the transaction.
- The transaction is not being declined because of fraud screening or regional restrictions.
Enter billing details exactly
Enter the name, address, postal code, and other billing information as they appear on the bank statement. Some Store forms reject special characters in names, addresses, or apartment information. If the form will not accept a character, Sony’s guidance suggests trying the nearest equivalent letters from the basic Latin alphabet and avoiding characters such as asterisks, hyphens, apostrophes, or slashes where the form rejects them.
Do not alter the details inaccurately just to make the form submit. If the billing address and the card’s registered address do not match, the issuer may decline the transaction.
5. Check whether the account has a 24-hour payment-information block
PlayStation may temporarily block payment-information changes when details have been updated too many times in a short period. The block lasts 24 hours. Attempting another update during that period can start another 24-hour block.

If you see this warning:
- Stop editing, deleting, or re-adding the card.
- Wait the full 24 hours from the latest blocked attempt.
- Afterward, verify the details once and submit them carefully.
- If the purchase is urgent, consider a supported alternative payment method or a wallet top-up code instead of repeatedly changing the card.
This is a security restriction, not usually a console fault. Rebuilding the database, changing DNS, or factory-resetting the console will not be a sensible first-line response to it.
6. Make sure the card and Store region match
A card issued in a different country from the PlayStation Store region may fail to link or may be declined at checkout. The safest route is to use a payment method registered in the same country as the account’s Store region.
Do not assume that changing the console’s language, location, or network will change the account’s Store region. Region restrictions can also affect the product itself, wallet codes, add-ons, and downloadable content. An account may be unable to purchase content that is unavailable for its country or region even when the card is valid.

7. Try an alternative payment route
If the card is rejected after you have checked the issuer and billing information, use another payment service supported in your Store region or add funds to the PlayStation wallet. Sony also identifies vouchers and wallet top-up codes as alternatives when a card is not accepted.

A PlayStation Store gift card or Wallet Top-Up code must match the country or region of the account. Before buying one, verify the denomination, redemption region, and whether it is actually a PlayStation Store wallet code—not a game-specific gift card, subscription code, retailer credit, or code for another platform.
A wallet code will not fix a PlayStation Network outage, suspended account, outstanding account debt, wrong-region account, or content that is unavailable on the Store. It is an alternative way to fund an otherwise eligible purchase, not a way to bypass account or content restrictions.
8. Check child-account and family restrictions
A child account cannot independently add a payment method or add funds to the wallet. It can purchase Store content only within the family manager’s available wallet balance and the child account’s monthly spending limit.
Sony says the default child-account spending limit is zero. If the purchaser uses a child account, the family manager should check:

- Available funds in the family manager’s wallet.
- The age rating and content restrictions.
- Whether the item is permitted for that account.
Do not tell a child-account user to add their own card or wallet funds; those actions are restricted by Sony’s family-account rules.
9. Check for debt, suspension, or account-security problems
If a previous payment was reversed or charged back, PlayStation may restrict access to online services until the outstanding debt is resolved. A debt or suspension message is an account-status problem, so changing card details is unlikely to solve it. Follow Sony’s account-debt instructions and contact PlayStation Support.

Do not use a chargeback as a way to obtain a refund. A reversed payment can cause account restrictions or create a debt that must be settled before online services are restored.
If you do not recognize a transaction, check Transaction History and subscription settings first. If the charge remains unexplained, contact Sony promptly and take steps to secure the account, including reviewing its sign-in and payment security.

A purchase problem and a delivery or entitlement problem are different. If Transaction History shows a completed purchase:
- Open the Game Library and look for the item under the correct account.
- Check whether the content requires a separate download, activation, or in-game claim.
- On PS5, inspect Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Game and App Services for season passes, in-game currency, and other non-downloadable content.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the account that made the purchase.
- If it still does not appear, contact PlayStation Support rather than purchasing it again.
For support, prepare the purchase details and a screenshot or short video showing the issue. This is especially useful when the transaction is recorded but the entitlement is not visible.

Collect these details before opening a support request:
- Your PlayStation Online ID.
- The sign-in email address for the account.
- The approximate transaction date and amount.
- The exact error message and code.
- Whether you used a PS5, PS4, web browser, or another Store interface.
- The payment method type—not the full card number.
- A screenshot or short video of the error.
- The Transaction History result.
Never send your full card number, security code, password, or one-time sign-in code in a public post or to an unofficial support account.
Do not confuse a failed purchase with a refund request
If the purchase never completed, troubleshoot the transaction rather than submitting a refund request. A completed purchase that you want to reverse is governed by a separate cancellation policy.

Under the United States PlayStation Store cancellation policy, eligible games and add-ons generally have a 14-day cancellation window if downloading or streaming has not begun. Wallet top-ups are generally non-refundable. The applicable policy may differ by country and local law, so check the policy for your Store region before requesting a refund. Do not initiate a chargeback simply because a purchase is unwanted or confusing.

The code must match the country or region of your PlayStation account. A wallet code will not solve an outage, suspension, account debt, wrong-region account, or content that is unavailable in that region.
Why was I charged when the game is not in my library?
Check the Game Library and, on PS5, Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Game and App Services. If Transaction History confirms the purchase but the entitlement is still missing, contact PlayStation Support with the purchase details and a screenshot or video.
