If you can’t access Shadow of the Erdtree, first check whether the problem is progression or installation. You must defeat both Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood to enter the expansion area. First, identify what is stopping you
- The DLC is installed, but you can’t enter its area: check whether your character has defeated both Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood.
- The DLC or its content is missing: confirm the add-on is installed and associated with the platform and account where you play.
These are separate checks: installing the expansion does not unlock its entrance unless both bosses are defeated. The Steam listing also specifies that the DLC requires the base game, so make sure you are checking the correct game and platform for your purchase.

Check whether your character can enter the DLC area
Defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. If either is still alive in your playthrough, progress the main game until both are defeated, then return to the DLC entrance. Installing or verifying the add-on will not bypass this progression requirement.
Check the DLC installation for your platform
Steam
- In your Steam Library, right-click Elden Ring and choose Properties.
- Open DLC and check that Shadow of the Erdtree has a checkmark in the install column.
- If the add-on downloaded while the game was running, close and restart the game so it can detect the content.

- Highlight Elden Ring on the home screen and scroll down to PlayStation Store → Your Add-ons.
- Select the download arrow beside the DLC.
PlayStation 5
- Make sure the console is online.
- Highlight Elden Ring on the home screen and scroll down to its add-on list.
- Select Shadow of the Erdtree and download it.

- Open My games and apps and highlight Elden Ring.

- Select the base game tile, check the DLC in the add-on list, save your changes, and install it.

Verify the game files
- Restart your computer and Steam.
- In your Library, right-click Elden Ring and choose Properties.
- Open Local Files and select Verify integrity of game files.
- Allow the check to finish; Bandai Namco notes that it can take several minutes.
Check where Steam and the game are installed
Compare the drive containing Steam with the drive containing Elden Ring. Bandai Namco recommends trying to place Steam and the game on the same drive if they are separated. This is a troubleshooting suggestion, not a guaranteed fix.
