If your Enshrouded dedicated server is missing, start with the in-game filter: open Play → Join → Server Filter and enable Show Dedicated Servers. Then confirm the server has completed startup and its console reports HostOnline. Give the listing one or two minutes, verify that the server and game use the same build, and make sure UDP port 15637 is reachable. While you investigate, connect by IP from the IPv4/Domain search; direct connection is usually the quickest way to get your group playing.

Fix the Enshrouded server browser first
Work through these checks in order. Each one removes a different reason a healthy server can be invisible.

- Show dedicated servers. In Enshrouded, choose Play, select Join, open Server Filter, and turn on Show Dedicated Servers. Dedicated servers are hidden when this option is disabled.
- Clear restrictive filters. Temporarily disable filters for Steam friends, password-protected servers, or any other category that could exclude your server. A name search can also hide a server if the spelling or spacing is different from the configured name.
- Wait for the server to finish starting. Watch the dedicated-server console or log for a line containing
HostOnline, such as[Session] 'HostOnline' (up)!. Listing can take one to two minutes after that point, especially immediately after a restart. - Check the build on both sides. The game client normally updates itself, but a dedicated server does not necessarily update when a patch is released. Compare the current game version with the server installation and consult the patch notes for that particular release.
- Verify the query port. Start with UDP
15637in the host firewall and router port-forwarding rule. The browser uses this query port to discover the server. - Join by IP while troubleshooting. From the main menu, open Play → Join, press T to switch to the IPv4/Domain search, enter the server’s public IPv4 address, and choose Search. This bypasses a browser listing problem.
If the IP connection works but the browser remains empty, the game server is probably running and the remaining fault is a filter, query-port, name, or listing issue. If the IP connection fails too, continue with the network and version checks below.
Confirm that the server is actually online
Read the startup state, not just the process state
A running process or open terminal does not prove that Enshrouded has created an online session. Keep the console visible during a restart and look for HostOnline. Before that message appears, the service may still be loading its world, applying settings, or contacting the session service. Searching during this period can return nothing even when no configuration is wrong.

After HostOnline, allow up to two minutes for the browser to populate. Refreshing repeatedly before startup completes can leave an old result cached; close and reopen the Join screen after the waiting period.
Check for a crash or repeated restart
If the log never reaches HostOnline, look for an error followed by an exit and restart. Common clues include a missing or locked world file, invalid JSON syntax, a port already in use, or a failed update. Fix the first error in the sequence, restart once, and wait through a complete startup rather than launching several copies at the same time.
Use the configured name
Players find a server by the name value in enshrouded_server.json. Search for the exact current value, including punctuation and spaces. If you change that value, restart the server; a browser entry can retain the old name until a fresh session is advertised.
Make sure the game and dedicated server builds match
Why client and server versions diverge
Steam can update a player’s client automatically while leaving a dedicated-server installation at its previous build. A mismatch can prevent listing or reject a connection even when the port is open. Server updates are a separate administrative task.

Update with SteamCMD
Stop the Enshrouded server before updating its files. In the SteamCMD environment used for that installation, run:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2278520 +quitStart the server again after the command finishes and wait for HostOnline. Do not overwrite the server’s configuration or save directory while updating; the update should replace application files only.

Patch instructions can differ. A hotfix may update clients only, while another release may require a new dedicated-server build. Read the notes for the exact patch installed on the players’ clients. If the notes are unclear, updating the server is the safer diagnostic step: stop it, run the command, restart, and test again. Record the old build before changing anything so you can identify whether the update caused a new problem.
Open and forward the ports the browser and connection use
Port advice for Enshrouded has changed across updates. Some current guidance treats UDP 15637 as the only required port after a content update removed a separate game-port requirement; other guides still use UDP 15636 for game traffic and UDP 15637 for queries. Use the least disruptive test sequence:

Configure the host firewall
- Create an inbound rule allowing UDP 15637 for the Enshrouded dedicated-server executable or service.
- Restart the server and test the browser.
- If direct IP joining still fails, add an inbound rule for UDP 15636, restart, and test again.
- Ensure the rule applies to the network profile used by the host. A rule limited to a private profile will not help when the machine is classified as public.
Configure the router
Forward the tested UDP port from the router’s public interface to the host computer’s fixed local IPv4 address. A DHCP reservation prevents the destination address from changing after a reboot. Do not forward the ports to a different machine, and do not use a TCP-only rule; the relevant traffic is UDP.
After saving the rule, restart the router only if its interface requires it, then restart the server. Testing from inside the same home network can be misleading because some routers do not support hairpin NAT. Use a player on a different network, such as a phone hotspot, for the final test.
Check whether the host has a public IPv4 address
Port forwarding cannot make a server reachable through carrier-grade NAT or another upstream router that you do not control. Compare the WAN address shown by your router with the address reported by an external network check. If they differ, an upstream NAT layer may be present; ask the internet provider for a public IPv4 address or place the forwarding rule on the upstream router as well. Some community guidance also reports that IPv6 is not supported for this server path, so test with a public IPv4 address first.
Join directly by IP instead of waiting for the browser
Direct connection separates a listing problem from a server-availability problem.

- Open Enshrouded’s main menu and select Play.
- Choose Join.
- Press T until the IPv4/Domain search is selected.
- Enter the host’s public IPv4 address and select Search.
- Select the returned server and join. If the host uses a non-default port, enter the address in the port format expected by the current game build.
Give the server owner the public address, not the local address beginning with ranges such as 192.168, 10., or 172.16–172.31. A local address works only for players on the same LAN.
If direct search works, leave the server running while you correct the browser filters or query forwarding. If it fails, test the firewall, router destination, public IPv4 status, and game/server builds before changing the server name or passwords.

As an alternate listing path, open Steam’s desktop client and choose View → Game Servers. Open the Favorites tab, add the server’s address with port 15637, and refresh the in-game browser afterward. This workaround is older and may not work with every current build, but it can expose a server that the normal Enshrouded list fails to display. A successful favorite result confirms that the host can answer a query even if the in-game filters are wrong.
Check filters, passwords, and group access
Filters can hide a perfectly healthy server
Return to Play → Join → Server Filter and inspect every enabled option. Keep Show Dedicated Servers on, then temporarily remove Steam-friends-only, password, region, or name restrictions. Once the server appears, re-enable filters one at a time to identify the setting that excluded it.

Password selection determines the group
Enshrouded server access is organized by groups. Each group has its own password, and the password a player enters determines which group that player joins. A player can therefore reach the server but appear unable to enter the expected group when the wrong password is used. Confirm the exact password and the intended group with the administrator rather than repeatedly changing the server’s network settings.
Restart after configuration edits
Stop the server cleanly after changing enshrouded_server.json, including its name, group definitions, or passwords. Start it again and wait for a new HostOnline message. Editing a file while the process is running can be overwritten when the service shuts down, leaving players searching for settings that were never loaded.

Browser listing versus direct IP: what each method needs

Self-hosted and rented servers: who can fix what?
The same symptoms have different owners depending on where the server runs. Identify responsibility before changing settings.

On a rented service, verify that the panel’s displayed port matches the address you give players. On a home host, reserve the machine’s LAN address before creating the forwarding rule. In either case, the administrator should capture the startup log, installed build, configured name, and ports before asking for help.
A clean recovery sequence
When several changes have accumulated, reset the diagnosis instead of changing everything at once:
- Stop the server and back up its configuration and world data.
- Confirm the server installation is updated for the current client patch, using the SteamCMD command if the patch notes require it or leave the requirement unclear.
- Verify the
nameand group settings inenshrouded_server.json. - Check the host firewall and forward UDP
15637to the correct machine. - Start the server and wait for
HostOnline, then wait another one to two minutes. - Attempt a direct IPv4/Domain search from a player on a different network.
- If direct joining fails, add UDP
15636and repeat the test. - Only after a successful direct join, return to the browser and re-enable filters one at a time.
This order preserves a working session whenever possible and tells you whether the remaining defect is discovery-only or prevents gameplay itself.

What to collect before asking for help
- The Enshrouded client build shown to affected players.
- The dedicated-server build and the time it was last updated.
- The complete startup section of the console, including whether
HostOnlineappears. - The exact server name from
enshrouded_server.json. - The host’s public IPv4 status and whether the test was performed from outside the LAN.
- Firewall and router rules for UDP
15637and, if tested, UDP15636. - Whether direct IP search works, whether the server appears in Steam Favorites, and the exact error shown when joining.
These details distinguish a hidden listing from a failed session and prevent repeated, unrelated changes to a live world.
