Capcom removed Denuvo Anti-Tamper from the Steam version of Resident Evil Village, according to reports published April 10, 2023. The change came nearly two years after the game’s May 7, 2021 release. It was reported for Steam/PC; the available reporting does not indicate a change to console editions.
What changed in Resident Evil Village?
Reports on April 10, 2023 said an update removed Denuvo Anti-Tamper from Resident Evil Village on Steam. PC Gamer quoted a SteamDB entry recording the removal of “Denuvo Anti-tamper” and its five-PC-per-day machine activation limit. GameSpot also reported that the Steam listing no longer included Denuvo, while DSOGaming said a new update accompanied the change.

These are reports of a Steam/PC change, not a statement from Capcom explaining its decision. The cited coverage does not establish that the console versions changed.
Why “almost two years” is accurate
GameSpot lists May 7, 2021 as the game’s first release date. Compared with the April 10, 2023 reports of Denuvo’s removal, that is just under two years—not exactly two years.

Does the game run better without Denuvo?
That has not been established by the evidence available here. Players had previously reported performance problems and blamed Denuvo, including frame-rate drops in an encounter, as recounted by GameSpot. PC Gamer also noted the performance discussion and an earlier Capcom update intended to optimize the anti-piracy technology. Those reports do not prove that Denuvo alone caused the complaints.
No controlled before-and-after benchmark is provided in the cited coverage to show whether removing Denuvo improved performance, or by how much. The removal itself should not be presented as proof of a performance fix.
