Capcom’s 12-minute Resident Evil Showcase was scheduled for January 15, 2026, with the spotlight on Resident Evil Requiem. Ahead of it, four possible surprises stood out as fan-facing hopes—not announced plans: a public demo, another returning character, a PS4 version, and a tease of a future remake. The event has passed, so those predictions should not be mistaken for promises or confirmed showcase reveals.
What Capcom announced for the showcase
TechRadar reported that Capcom had scheduled the presentation for January 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. PST. It was described as a 12-minute showcase focused largely on Resident Evil Requiem. That was the event’s announced frame; the four ideas below came from an article writer’s speculation, not from Capcom’s list of planned reveals. TechRadar’s announcement coverage is the source for the event details and predictions.

Capcom’s June 9, 2025 announcement called Resident Evil Requiem the ninth main installment in the series and described it as a survival-horror game developed with RE ENGINE. The release notice listed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a February 27, 2026 launch date. That date has passed. Capcom’s announcement is a dated snapshot of the planned platforms and launch date, not a current availability or price listing.
The four hoped-for surprises
1. A public demo with Grace and Leon
The original speculation was that Capcom might make a demo available to everyone, after earlier demo access had been limited to event attendees. A public demo featuring Grace and Leon would have offered players a direct look at the game, but the showcase announcement did not confirm that one was coming. Treat this as a hoped-for possibility, not a feature or event promise.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
2. Another returning character
Sherry Birkin and Claire Redfield were floated as possible familiar faces. Their inclusion was speculative: neither character was confirmed by the showcase announcement. Naming recognizable characters as possibilities is not evidence that they appear in Requiem or that Capcom planned to reveal them during the presentation.
3. A PlayStation 4 version
The prediction drew an inference from Requiem being planned for Nintendo Switch 2 and from the Resident Evil 4 remake having a PS4 release. That reasoning did not amount to a Capcom announcement. The June 2025 platform list for Requiem named PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; it did not list PS4.

- FEAR COMES HOME -- Fear, combat, exploration, and item management: these are the four pillars of survival horror, a genre that has never been more masterfully executed than in the gameplay of Resident Evil. The horror continues in the ground-breaking Resident Evil 7. Step into the new Isolated View and experience true survival horror in a world created by the all-new RE Engine.
- DEEP IN THE BAYOU - When Ethan Winters opened his inbox, the last thing he expected was to find an email from his wife; she had been missing for three years. The message was simple: "Come get me," and an address in Louisiana. This leads Ethan to a decrepit mansion in the heart of the bayou. The place has a seriously creepy vibe, but Ethan continues his search – until a stranger attacks him and knocks him unconscious. Ethan has no idea what awaits him when he wakes up...for he is now in the clutches of the Baker family.
- A NEW PERSPECTIVE -- In RESIDENT EVIL 7, we're changing the way you interact with the world. For this next major entry in the series, play from a first-person point of view, dramatically increasing your ability to become fully absorbed in the world we have created.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
4. A tease of a future remake
Rumors surrounding Code: Veronica and promotional wording referring to “games” prompted speculation that Capcom might hint at more than one project. That did not establish that a remake would be teased at the January showcase. Later news must be kept separate from what was known or predicted for that event.
What happened afterward: Resident Evil Veronica is announced
Capcom later announced Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the 2000 game Resident Evil Code: Veronica, for 2027. The announced platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC; Capcom said the exact release date and further details would be announced later. This confirms a remake is in development, but does not prove that the January showcase teased it. See Capcom’s June 2026 announcement for the stated platforms and timing.
