The file has been found with Movavi Video Editor, Video Suite, and Screen Recorder installations, including some Steam-distributed builds. The correct copy must match the product and build that loads it.
What causes the error
The usual causes are:
- An incomplete or damaged Movavi installation.
- A failed Movavi update.
- Antivirus quarantine.
- Manual deletion or cleanup software removing application files.
- A mismatch between products or builds.
- A separate missing Microsoft runtime dependency.
- Broader Windows corruption, which is less likely.
The error does not prove that Windows itself is damaged. It usually means that a Movavi executable cannot find or load one of its own application files.
Fix 1: Cleanly reinstall the affected Movavi product
This is the most reliable repair because it restores the matching DLLs, executables, manifests, codecs, and configuration files together.
Before uninstalling, copy your Movavi project files and confirm that your original videos, recordings, and other media are stored separately from the program folder.
Uninstall the affected product
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the Movavi product named in the error or the program you were trying to start.
- Select Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
If the error identifies a Steam installation, uninstall or repair that Steam application rather than mixing files with a retail Movavi installation.
Remove damaged Movavi configuration when necessary
Movavi’s Windows reinstall procedure may provide an official cleanup file for removing damaged Movavi configuration and activation-related entries. Use that cleanup file only from Movavi’s own support instructions or installer package.
Do not manually delete random registry keys. Do not remove unrelated Movavi products unless you intend to reinstall them too.
Reinstall from an official source
- Sign in to your Movavi account, or open the original purchase email.
- Download the installer for the exact product you own.
- Run the installer.
- Allow the installer to complete without interruption.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the Movavi application from the Start menu.
- Reactivate it if requested.
If the application starts normally, the correct capturefactory.dll and its related files have been restored. Do not copy a DLL from another Movavi product into the repaired installation.
If the same error returns immediately, continue with the quarantine check below before reinstalling again.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Security or another endpoint-security product may have removed the DLL. Do not restore a file solely because its name appears in the error. First verify that it came from the legitimate Movavi installation directory and that the detection is understood.
Check Protection history in Windows 11
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand any recent item related to the Movavi installation.
- Check the original file path, detection name, and action taken.
Check Protection history in Windows 10
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the relevant detection.
Only consider Restore or Allow on device when all of the following are true:

- The detection and file path are consistent with that installation.
- You have checked the file with current security tools.
Microsoft warns that allowing a genuine threat can expose the device. If the file is outside a legitimate Movavi folder, has a suspicious signature, or keeps reappearing after removal, leave it quarantined and perform a full malware scan.
After restoring a trustworthy file, reinstalling Movavi is still preferable because it verifies and replaces the complete application set.
Fix 3: Confirm that you are repairing the right product and build
Several Movavi products can contain capturefactory.dll, but their copies are not automatically interchangeable. A copy from Screen Recorder may not work with Video Editor. An older release may not match a newer executable. The same applies to retail and Steam builds.
Check the product involved:
- Right-click the shortcut you normally use.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Target field.
- Note the executable name and installation folder.
- Compare that product with the one you are reinstalling.
Also check the installed program list:
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Movavi.
- Note which product and release are installed.
A 32-bit application can require 32-bit supporting files even on 64-bit Windows. To check Windows itself:

- Select About.
- Read System type.
This does not establish the architecture of every Movavi DLL. There is no universal public architecture matrix for this individual file, so use the installer intended for the exact Movavi product and release rather than guessing.
Fix 4: Separate this error from a Visual C++ runtime error
Installing Visual C++ Redistributable does not recreate capturefactory.dll. This DLL appears to be proprietary Movavi software, not a Microsoft runtime component.
Install or repair Microsoft Visual C++ only when the error also names a Microsoft runtime file such as:

Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable download page. Install the architecture required by the affected application. A 32-bit program may need the x86 package even when Windows is 64-bit, while a 64-bit program generally uses x64.
Do not uninstall unrelated Visual C++ Redistributables merely because a generic DLL guide recommends it. Multiple runtime versions can coexist.
Fix 5: Do not use regsvr32 as a first repair
regsvr32 registers certain DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It does not download a missing file, rebuild an application installation, or repair an ordinary runtime library.
For reference, the command syntax is:
regsvr32 "C:pathtofile.dll"
There is no reliable evidence that capturefactory.dll is a self-registering COM server. Running the command will normally be irrelevant. If it reports that the entry point is missing, that does not necessarily mean the DLL is corrupt; it may simply be a normal non-registering application DLL.
Use regsvr32 only when Movavi support specifically instructs you to register a particular DLL and provides the exact path.

capturefactory.dll relates to a Movavi capture or media component, but a missing-DLL message is not automatically a graphics, camera, audio, or capture-driver problem. Do not start by replacing every driver.
If Movavi also reports a camera, microphone, display, or capture-device failure:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras, Sound, video and game controllers, and Display adapters.
- Right-click the relevant device.
- Select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Use the device manufacturer’s official support page when Windows cannot find a suitable driver. If Device Manager shows a warning symbol, record the device name and error code before changing anything.

Fix 7: Repair Windows components only for broader system problems
System File Checker and DISM repair Windows-protected components. They do not normally recreate an application-local Movavi DLL, so use them when you also have Windows instability, damaged system features, or several unrelated applications failing.

Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows.
If Windows reports that it repaired files, test Movavi again. If it reports that it could not repair some files, follow Microsoft’s repair guidance and return to the clean Movavi reinstall. Do not assume that a successful SFC scan means capturefactory.dll has been restored.

Avoid these common but unsafe shortcuts:
- Do not download

- Do not permanently disable antivirus protection.
- Do not run registry cleaners to fix this error.
- Do not repeatedly register the DLL with
regsvr32. - Do not install Visual C++ expecting it to recreate a Movavi DLL.
A downloaded file may contain malware, belong to the wrong architecture, or be incompatible with the executable. The safe source is the exact Movavi installer associated with the affected product and account. For a Steam copy, use Steam’s own file-integrity verification or reinstall that Steam application.
If reinstalling still fails
Record the following before contacting Movavi support:
- The complete error text.
- The Movavi product name and release.
- The executable named in the shortcut or error.
- The full path where the program is installed.
- Whether the installation came from Movavi or Steam.
- Your Windows edition and system type.
- Any Windows Security detection and original path.
- Whether SFC and DISM reported errors.
- Screenshots and relevant application logs.
If the DLL exists outside a legitimate Movavi directory, or a security product repeatedly detects it, scan the system before restoring anything. Persistent failures should be escalated to Movavi with the product information and screenshots rather than solved with an unrelated DLL download.
