cnbp_325.dll is a Canon inkjet printer-driver component, not a general Windows runtime file. When Windows reports that cnbp_325.dll is missing, not found, or cannot be loaded, repair the Canon printer package for the exact printer model instead of downloading the DLL separately.
What this file actually does
Public file metadata identifies cnbp_325.dll as part of a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver associated with CANON INC. That identification comes from public file records rather than an official Canon manifest, so the filename alone cannot identify the printer model or the exact Canon package that installed it.

The file is probably not a normal Windows component, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or .NET file. It is also not necessarily required to be a 64-bit file simply because Windows is 64-bit. A 32-bit Canon driver component can run on 64-bit Windows through the appropriate driver and application compatibility layers.
The program showing the error matters. It may be a Canon startup utility, print monitor, control panel, installer, or another executable left behind after a printer was removed. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency used by the Canon component is missing.

Do not copy cnbp_325.dll into System32 or SysWOW64 based on a file listing. The correct location depends on the Canon package, Windows architecture, and printer model.

Fix 1: Identify the printer and the program making the call
Before changing files, establish which Canon device and executable are involved.
- Open Settings.
- In Windows 11, select Bluetooth & devices, then Printers & scanners.
In Windows 10, select Devices, then Printers & scanners. - Record every Canon printer shown, including the full model name.
- Select the printer and note whether it is connected by USB, Wi-Fi, or another network connection.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11. In Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Search for Canon entries, including printer drivers, MP Drivers, scanning utilities, status monitors, and model-specific tools.
- Note the exact error window title and the program named in the message.
If the error appears during startup, open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc, select Startup apps, and look for a Canon item. Do not disable random Windows entries. The purpose is to learn which Canon utility is still being launched.
For more detail, open Event Viewer by right-clicking Start and selecting Event Viewer. Check Windows Logs > Application around the time of the error. Reliability Monitor can also help: search Start for View reliability history and inspect the failure at the relevant time.
If the calling executable belongs to a non-Canon program, repair that program instead. The DLL filename alone does not prove which package must be reinstalled.
Fix 2: Remove the broken Canon installation and reinstall it
This is the most likely solution.
Remove the printer and Canon software
- Disconnect the USB printer, or temporarily turn off the network printer.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Uninstall Canon software associated with the affected printer.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners in Windows 11, or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners in Windows 10.
- Select the old Canon printer and choose Remove.
- Confirm the removal and restart Windows.
If the printer is not listed, continue anyway. A damaged driver can remain even when the visible printer entry has disappeared.
Download the correct Canon package
Use Canon’s official support and download portal, search for the exact printer model, select Windows, and choose the installed Windows version. Canon driver packages are model- and operating-system-specific. Do not select a package merely because it contains the word “Canon” or appears to support a similar PIXMA model.

Check these details before downloading:
- The exact printer model and regional variant
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 support
- Whether the package is labeled Driver, MP Drivers, or printer software
- Whether the package is intended for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows
- Any compatibility notes for older printers
To check Windows architecture, open Settings > System > About and read System type. A 64-bit operating system can still require a 32-bit component from an older Canon driver. Do not force a different architecture by copying files manually.

Install the package cleanly
- Right-click the Canon installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the installer instructions.
- Reconnect or power on the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Select the correct connection type.
- Finish the installation and restart Windows.
- Return to Printers & scanners and print a test page.
The repair worked if the Canon printer appears normally, the Canon utility opens without the DLL message, and printing completes without the error returning.
If the installer says that a newer version is already installed, uninstall the remaining Canon entries, restart, and run the installer again. Do not install several driver packages for similar models in an attempt to find the right file.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
If the problem began immediately after an antivirus alert, the file may have been quarantined. That does not prove the detection was a false positive.
- Open Windows Security from Start.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand entries related to Canon software or the time when the error started.
- Read the detection details and file path.
- Run a full scan before restoring anything.
Do not restore cnbp_325.dll solely because its filename matches the error. The safer action is to remove the affected Canon package and reinstall it from Canon. Restore a quarantined item only when you have verified that the file belongs to the trusted Canon installation and the detection is a false positive.
If Protection history shows a suspicious directory, an unknown publisher, or multiple unrelated DLLs, leave the item quarantined and investigate the system rather than restoring it.
Fix 4: Check for an incompatible or leftover driver
Older Canon packages can remain after a printer replacement or Windows upgrade.

- Type
printui /s /t2and press Enter. - In Print Server Properties, open the Drivers tab.
- Look for drivers clearly associated with the removed Canon printer.
- Select only the confirmed obsolete Canon driver and choose Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that option.
- Restart Windows and reinstall the current model-specific package.
Do not delete unrelated printer drivers. If Windows refuses to remove the package because it is in use, stop the Print Spooler service through Services, remove the confirmed stale driver, then start the service again. Avoid manually deleting DriverStore files.
If Canon provides no package compatible with your version of Windows, check the model’s official compatibility information. The built-in Windows printer driver may support basic printing, but it may not provide scanning, status monitoring, or every Canon feature.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
SFC and DISM are secondary repairs here. They may fix damaged Windows components, but they normally do not restore a missing third-party Canon file.
First install pending Windows updates and restart. Then open Command Prompt as administrator:

- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Success means DISM completes without an error and SFC reports that it repaired corrupted files or found no integrity violations. Reinstall the Canon driver afterward if cnbp_325.dll is still missing.

Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent system change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a driver installation, Windows update, or software change and a restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore and let Windows restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, drivers, and settings without normally removing personal documents. It does not guarantee that a Canon package will be restored correctly, so reinstall the official driver afterward if necessary.

Do not register or download the DLL manually
Do not use random DLL download sites, DLL download sites utilities, registry cleaners, or a replacement file copied from another computer. The file may be malware, the wrong build, the wrong architecture, or a different Canon component, and replacing it can leave the underlying driver installation broken.
regsvr32 is also not a normal fix for this file. That command is intended for DLLs that provide the DllRegisterServer mechanism. There is no reliable evidence that cnbp_325.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX DLL. Running:
regsvr32 cnbp_325.dll
may produce a message that DllRegisterServer was not found, and it cannot repair a missing or mismatched printer-driver package.
Windows Features are not the right place to restore this file either. Enabling .NET Framework, DirectPlay, or another optional feature does not install a Canon printer DLL unless a separate application independently proves that it needs that feature.

After a clean Canon reinstall, identify the executable still requesting the file. Check the error dialog, Event Viewer, Reliability Monitor, and the Canon entries under Installed apps and Startup apps.
If the printer was removed and the error appears only during startup, uninstall the leftover Canon utility rather than repeatedly reinstalling the driver. If the error appears while printing, the active printer driver or a missing dependency is more likely.
If antivirus reports the file again after a fresh Canon installation, stop restoring copies and scan Windows Security. If the Canon installer itself fails, record the exact model, Windows version, architecture, installer message, and connection type before contacting Canon support.
