Find it in a chest in northern Castle Ensis, reached by dropping down from Scadu Altus. Its left-hand controls have an important tradeoff: the skill button casts sorceries and takes over the right-hand weapon’s skill input. Bandai Namco’s version 1.17 notes say Intelligence scaling now increases attack power for all damage types.
What the Carian Sorcery Sword does
This small piercing sword is an armament from Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Its in-game description says it was used by old Carian knights and that it serves as a glintstone sorcery catalyst when performing strong attacks. In other words, it combines a thrusting-sword moveset with a way to cast sorceries; casting is tied to strong attacks rather than being a separate staff-like action on every input.

The item reference also identifies its fixed skill as Impaling Thrust. The exact current damage and scaling values depend on the weapon and character, and a complete authoritative numerical table is not established here.
Where to find it
The Carian Sorcery Sword is in a chest in northern Castle Ensis. The approach cue given by the item reference is to drop down from Scadu Altus. That identifies the general route and destination, but not a verified turn-by-turn path; use an up-to-date map if you need precise directions.

Because the sword is part of Shadow of the Erdtree content, players without access to the expansion may need to obtain it before they can collect the weapon. Check the platform-specific listing and edition details before buying, including whether the base game is required and whether you already own it. Bandai Namco lists Elden Ring for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2: official platform information.
How to cast with it—and the off-hand tradeoff
Use a strong attack to cast a sorcery while the sword is equipped. The less obvious interaction matters if you want to pair it with another weapon: when the Carian Sorcery Sword is held in the left hand, pressing the skill button casts sorceries and overrides the right-hand weapon’s skill input. That means you cannot rely on that same button to activate the right-hand weapon’s skill while the sword is in this left-hand setup.

It suits a character who wants a piercing-sword moveset and sorcery access from the same armament, especially if casting through strong attacks fits their playstyle. Its value is less straightforward if you need the left-hand skill button for a right-hand weapon’s skill, or if a separate staff better fits your build.

For a meaningful comparison, check the sword’s current scaling and sorcery scaling at your actual upgrade level and Intelligence, then compare those results with the staff you would otherwise use. The available official patch notes establish the direction of the Intelligence-scaling changes, but do not settle which option deals more damage for a particular character.
