Carian Sovereignty is an Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Ash of War found on a scarab hanging from a cave roof in Scadu Altus. It turns a compatible infusable sword into a magical greatsword attack: a charged downward strike followed, with another input, by a horizontal sweep.
Where to find Carian Sovereignty
The Ash of War is carried by a scarab hanging from the roof of a cave southwest of the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in Scadu Altus. From the road leading toward the Cathedral, travel west, then head south along the plateau and watch the eastern cliff for the cave. The location and route are described by Eldenpedia’s Carian Sovereignty page.
After obtaining the Ash, you can duplicate it by giving Lost Ashes of War to Smithing Master Hewg, as described on the same page. Carian Sovereignty is Shadow of the Erdtree content, so access to the expansion is required.
What the skill does and how much FP it costs
The skill raises the equipped weapon and transforms its blade into a magical greatsword for a downward strike. Press the skill input again to perform a broad horizontal follow-up sweep. These are the reference’s listed costs; check the in-game skill description for the values in your current game version. The skill reference also describes hyper armor during parts of the animation, but that should not be read as protection throughout the entire move.
Which weapons can use Carian Sovereignty?
Carian Sovereignty can be applied to infusable swords, with two stated exclusions: Colossal Swords and Backhand Blades. Compatible classes listed by Eldenpedia include:

- Light greatswords, greatswords, thrusting swords, and heavy thrusting swords
- Curved swords and curved greatswords
- Katanas and great katanas
- Twinblades
Compatibility depends on the weapon being infusable; the skill is not a way to add this move to every sword-shaped weapon.
What affinities can you choose?
The Ash grants Magic affinity by default, and Standard is also listed as available. Other options depend on whetblades you have found:

There is no established universal best weapon or affinity for this Ash. Choose according to your character’s stats, the damage type you want, and the enemy you are facing rather than assuming Magic is always the strongest choice.

Its charged attacks require time and keep you stationary, so look for a safe opening or an enemy recovery rather than starting a charge in an uncontrolled close-range exchange. That is tactical guidance based on the move’s described commitment, not a guarantee of performance: animation timing and results can vary with weapon, character build, target, PvE or PvP context, and game version.
