The new Carmageddon game is Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, a single-player combat-racing spinoff from 34BigThings. It launched on February 6, 2026, and mixes vehicle battles with roguelite runs through a post-apocalyptic world.

What is Carmageddon: Rogue Shift?

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is an action racer set in 2050, where survivors shelter in high-rise buildings and the Wasted—zombie-like creatures in the game’s fiction—control the streets at night. Players enter dangerous races to earn upgrades and try to reach a spaceport. The game was developed and published by 34BigThings, not by Stainless Games, the developer of the original Carmageddon. Steam’s game listing and the PlayStation Blog gameplay overview describe its premise and design.

How the roguelite racing works

This is not a conventional lap-racing campaign. A run takes you along branching or generated routes that include races, shops and boss encounters. You can wreck rivals, collect credits, repair your car, switch weapons and add perks as you go. Crashing ends the run, while some long-term unlocks carry forward, so progress combines repeated attempts with persistent rewards.

34BigThings describes the game’s content as 15 upgradeable vehicles, 13 weapon classes and more than 80 perks. These are developer feature counts, not independent measurements. The intended appeal is the mix of combat-racing decisions and build choices: what to equip, when to repair, and which route or event to take.

When did Carmageddon: Rogue Shift come out?

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift launched on February 6, 2026. Giuseppe Enrico Franchi, Head of Design at 34BigThings, announced that date in a PlayStation Blog post published January 6, 2026; Steam also lists February 6, 2026 as the release date.

Platforms and controller support

The official listings reviewed include PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo South Africa listing identifies a Nintendo Switch 2 version; that regional page does not establish availability in every country, and it says offer details depend on the Nintendo Account country setting. Check the storefront for your region before buying.

For PC, Epic lists controller support and Steam recommends playing with a controller. A controller is optional; the listings do not specify a required model or validate any particular device.

Is it a sequel to the original Carmageddon?

Rogue Shift is a franchise spinoff rather than a numbered sequel. Stainless Games says it developed the original Carmageddon from the ground up, with the first game released in 1997, and its franchise history includes earlier entries and spinoffs through Carmageddon Crashers in 2017. 34BigThings is the developer and publisher of Rogue Shift; the original developer’s history is useful franchise context, not a development credit for the new game. Who is likely to enjoy it?

  • Choose it for combat racing: the official descriptions emphasize wrecking opponents, weapons and vehicle upgrades rather than ordinary lap-racing alone.
  • Expect runs to reset: a crash ends the current run, while some unlocks persist; it is not presented as one uninterrupted campaign.
  • Plan on solo play: Epic lists the game as single-player.
  • Check your platform’s store: listings differ by storefront and region, particularly for the Switch 2 evidence available on Nintendo’s South Africa page.

These are format and listing details, not a hands-on assessment of handling, balance or performance.
