The cause matters. A developer documented one rare title-screen crash caused by a specific invalid keyboard binding, while official updates fixed other individual crash and stability bugs. Those cases are useful clues, not explanations for every crash.
1. Pin down when the crash happens
Before changing settings, classify the failure. Does CARRION fail to launch, close just after the title screen, crash during a particular level or action, or become unstable after repeated saves and loads? Different stages can point to different known issues, and a clear description is more useful than treating every crash as the same problem.

- Won’t launch: note whether the game opens at all and whether an error appears.
- Closes after the title screen: compare the symptom with the narrow keyboard-binding case in check 3.
- Crashes during play: record the level and what you were doing.
- Gets unstable after repeated save/load cycles: see check 6.
2. Check for a game update
Install any available CARRION update before investigating further. The game’s official announcement archive records fixes for particular crashes and stability problems, so an older installation may not include them. An update is not a guaranteed fix for a different or newly occurring crash.

3. If it crashes after the title screen, check the keyboard binding
A developer traced one reported title-screen crash to the keyboard control value controls_kb_monster_offensive being set to None. The suggested workaround was to assign that action a valid key, then rebind it to the preferred key if needed. The developer later described the bug as rare and said it was fixed soon after it was reported, so this check is relevant only if the symptom matches; it is not a general solution for launch crashes.
Use the game’s controls settings to assign a valid keyboard binding. Do not edit settings files on the assumption that this is the cause: the reported case is specific to that invalid value.

4. Compare your PC with CARRION’s listed minimum requirements
Steam lists the following minimum specifications for CARRION. These are the game’s listed minimums, not a guarantee that every configuration meeting them will be free of crashes.

Steam separately says its client supports Windows 10 and later beginning January 1, 2024. That client requirement is distinct from CARRION’s listed Windows game minimum of Windows 7 SP1.

5. Close unnecessary background applications
As a basic diagnostic, close applications you do not need and try the game again. Steam recommends stopping unnecessary applications in its general advice for performance problems. That guidance is not a CARRION-specific crash fix, and it does not identify the cause if the game continues to close.

Steam general troubleshooting advice
6. Match save/load or mod-menu crashes to the old patch notes
CARRION’s official notes describe individual issues that developers addressed: an August 1, 2021 update fixed performance and stability problems that could follow repeated saving and loading without leaving a level; a November 10, 2021 update fixed a rare crash involving splitting the monster under specific circumstances and crashes when loading a level from custom mod menus. These are historical, specific fixes—not evidence that the same bugs remain in a current version. Check that the game is updated before assuming your crash is one of them.
7. Record the useful details instead of guessing at a hardware fault
If the crash persists, write down the information that distinguishes your case:

- When it crashes and what you were doing immediately beforehand.
- Whether it began after a game update, settings change, or other recent change.
- Your operating system and relevant PC specifications.
- Any error message or log information available to you.
These details help explain the problem, but they do not by themselves prove a cause. Avoid assuming that a crash means your hardware is faulty.
8. Contact official support if the crash continues
For crashes that persist after these checks—or do not match the documented cases—use the support route listed on Steam’s CARRION page. Steam lists the customer-support website and the email address [email protected]. Include the notes from check 7 so support can understand the timing and configuration.
