cdrcpr.dll is a Corel application file, and a missing cdrcpr.dll error usually means that Corel’s own installation is incomplete, damaged, quarantined, or mismatched. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the affected Corel product rather than copy a replacement DLL into a Windows folder.

Start with this diagnostic checklist

Before changing anything, record these details:

  • Which program displays the error: CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, or another Corel product.
  • Whether the error appears when launching the program, during installation, after an update, or at Windows startup.
  • Whether the message says “missing,” “not found,” “could not be loaded,” or “not designed to run on Windows.”
  • Whether the file exists anywhere inside the Corel installation folder.
  • Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
  • Whether the affected Corel application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
  • Whether Windows Security or another antivirus product recently quarantined a Corel file.

The Windows edition and the application architecture are separate. A 64-bit Windows installation can run 32-bit Corel software, so do not choose a replacement based only on the fact that Windows is 64-bit.

What is cdrcpr.dll?

cdrcpr.dll is associated with Corel Corporation software. Its reported description is Corel Compression Library, and public file metadata associates it with CorelDRAW, Corel Graphics Applications, and the Corel Common Framework.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a third-party application DLL, not a Windows system component. It should normally be located in the affected Corel product’s installation directory or one of its application subfolders. It does not normally belong in:

  • C:WindowsSystem32
  • C:WindowsSysWOW64
  • The Windows root directory

Some older or bundled Corel components use versioned names such as cdrcpr100.dll or cdrcpr110.dll. Those files are not automatically interchangeable with cdrcpr.dll.

A publicly listed record identifies a 32-bit cdrcpr.dll version as 17.1.0.572, with a size of approximately 0.39 MB. That is only one public file record, not a universal specification for every Corel release. Other Corel installations may contain a different version, architecture, or build.

Error messages you may see

The exact wording varies by Windows version and by the application loading the file. Common variants include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • “The program can’t start because cdrcpr.dll is missing from your computer.”
  • “This application has failed to start because cdrcpr.dll was not found.”
  • “cdrcpr.dll was not found.”
  • “The file cdrcpr.dll is missing or corrupted.”
  • “A required component is missing: cdrcpr.dll.”
  • “cdrcpr.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
  • “Windows cannot find cdrcpr.dll.”
  • “Could not load cdrcpr.dll.”

The last wording does not always mean that the file is absent. It can also indicate a corrupted file, wrong architecture, an incompatible build, or another missing dependency.

Fix 1: Repair the Corel installation

Repair is the best first step because it restores the files that belong to your exact Corel product, edition, architecture, and release.

For CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, use these steps:

  1. Close CorelDRAW and other open applications.
  2. Press the Windows key and search for Control Panel.
  3. Open Control Panel.
  4. Select Uninstall a program under Programs.
  5. Find the installed CorelDRAW suite in the list.
  6. Double-click the CorelDRAW entry.
  7. Choose Repair or Modify, depending on the installer version.
  8. Follow the repair wizard.
  9. Restart Windows when the wizard finishes.
  10. Launch the same Corel application that produced the error.

If the repair option asks for installation media or a source location, provide the original installer or let the setup program locate the required source. Do not point it to a random folder containing a similarly named DLL.

How to tell whether repair worked

Repair succeeded if:

  • Corel launches without the cdrcpr.dll message.
  • The application opens the document or workspace that previously failed.
  • The file is present in the Corel installation directory.
  • The error does not return after restarting Windows.

If repair completes but the error remains, restart once more and repeat the launch test. If the same message appears, continue with the reinstall steps below rather than copying an individual DLL.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 2: Reinstall the exact Corel product

A reinstall is appropriate when Repair is unavailable, the repair wizard fails, the installer source is damaged, or several Corel files are missing.

First identify the product and edition:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Uninstall a program.
  3. Write down the complete Corel product name shown in the list.
  4. Note whether multiple Corel releases are installed.
  5. Check whether the product is subscription-based or a one-time purchase.

Then obtain the installer from Corel’s official account, downloads, or product-support area. Select the matching product and edition. Corel installers may distinguish between different releases, subscription packages, and one-time-purchase versions, so do not choose a package merely because its name contains “CorelDRAW.”

Before uninstalling, confirm that you have the required sign-in details, serial information, or installation files. Then:

  1. Return to Control Panel → Uninstall a program.
  2. Select the affected Corel product.
  3. Choose Uninstall.
  4. Restart Windows if requested.
  5. Run the official Corel installer.
  6. Select the same product edition you previously used.
  7. Complete setup.
  8. Restart Windows.
  9. Launch Corel and test the application.

If more than one Corel release remains installed, test each release separately. One installation may be working while another has the missing file.

Why reinstalling only the DLL is unreliable

A standalone file may have the wrong:

  • Version
  • Architecture
  • Exported functions
  • Compression-library dependencies
  • Corel release compatibility
  • Digital signature

Even if Windows stops displaying the original error, the program may crash later because the replacement does not match the rest of the installation. Reinstalling the product restores the complete set of related files and configuration entries.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine

Security software can quarantine or delete an application file. A missing file after a security alert requires careful verification before anything is restored.

In Windows Security:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Windows Security.
  3. Open it.
  4. Select Virus & threat protection.
  5. Select Protection history.
  6. Review recent detections.
  7. Open any item associated with the Corel installation folder.
  8. Check the detected file path, detection name, publisher information, and action taken.

Only consider restoring the file if all of the following are true:

  • The path belongs to the Corel installation you intentionally installed.
  • The file came from the official Corel installer.
  • The publisher and signature information are consistent with Corel.
  • You have ruled out a tampered or unofficial installer.
  • Your security product does not continue to identify the file as malicious.

Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely malicious file can expose the computer. The filename alone is not proof that a file is safe.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After a verified false positive is restored, run Corel’s Repair option. Repair is preferable to relying on the restored copy because it can replace a damaged or incomplete file with the vendor-supplied version.

If the file was quarantined repeatedly, do not keep restoring it. Update Windows Security, run a full scan, and obtain a clean Corel installer from the official source.

Fix 4: Verify the file path, signature, and architecture

If cdrcpr.dll exists but Corel still reports that it cannot load it, inspect the file rather than replacing it immediately.

Check the path

Right-click the Corel shortcut and select Open file location. Look through the application folder and its subfolders for cdrcpr.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A file inside the installed Corel directory is more plausible than one in a Windows system folder. If multiple copies exist, note every path. Do not delete copies until you know which Corel executable loads each one.

Check the digital signature

Right-click the file and select Properties.

Look for:

  1. The Digital Signatures tab.
  2. A signer associated with Corel Corporation.
  3. The Details button.
  4. A message confirming that the digital signature is valid.

The absence of a visible signature is not, by itself, a complete malware determination, especially with older software. Treat it as a reason to verify the installer source and run a security scan, not as permission to download a replacement.

Check the architecture

A 32-bit Corel executable needs the 32-bit component it was packaged with. A 64-bit Corel executable needs its compatible 64-bit component. A 64-bit Windows system can host both types of application.

To check Windows:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select About.
  4. Read System type.

To identify the affected application, check its installation path and product documentation. Avoid assuming that every Corel release uses the same architecture. If the error began after installing a different edition or release, reinstall the matching product instead of selecting a DLL by filename.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when other files are failing

DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore an arbitrary Corel application DLL, so they should not be the first response to an isolated cdrcpr.dll error.

Use them when:

  • Other Windows applications are also failing.
  • Windows features are behaving incorrectly.
  • Corel’s installer reports broader system corruption.
  • The problem began alongside damaged Windows files.
  • System files fail validation.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.

Run DISM

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Press Enter.
  2. Wait for the operation to finish.
  3. Keep the window open if DISM reports that repairs are in progress.

Run SFC

After DISM completes, run:

sfc /scannow

Press Enter and wait for verification to reach 100 percent. Restart Windows afterward and test Corel.

Possible SFC results include:

  • Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: protected Windows files appear intact.
  • Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart and test again.
  • Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: review the result, repeat the Corel repair, and consider System Restore if the problem followed a recent change.

Running SFC repeatedly will not replace a missing Corel DLL if the Corel installation itself is the problem.

If you prefer help identifying which Windows components need attention instead of repeatedly hunting through repair output, Outbyte PC Repair offers a free scan that shows what it finds; repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling Corel remains the definitive fix when cdrcpr.dll belongs to the Corel installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change

System Restore can help if cdrcpr.dll worked previously and disappeared after an installation, removal, update, or system change.

It rolls back system configuration, registry settings, and installed programs to an earlier state. It does not normally remove personal documents, pictures, or other personal files.

To open it:

  1. Press Win+R.
  2. Enter:
rstrui.exe
  1. Press Enter.
  2. Select Next.
  3. Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
  4. Select Scan for affected programs if available.
  5. Review the changes.
  6. Select Next, then Finish.
  7. Allow Windows to restart.

After Windows returns, test Corel. If the file is still missing, use Corel Repair or reinstall the product. System Restore is not a substitute for restoring the vendor’s complete application files.

Fix 7: Check other dependencies named in the error

Do not assume that every missing-DLL message requires the same runtime package. cdrcpr.dll is associated with Corel, not with the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the complete error also names files such as:

  • MSVCP
  • VCRUNTIME
  • api-ms-win-crt

then a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime may be relevant. Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable page and match the package to the application:

  • vc_redist.x86.exe for a 32-bit application
  • vc_redist.x64.exe for a 64-bit application
  • ARM64 only when the software specifically requires ARM64

The redistributable architecture must match the application, not simply the Windows installation.

Install only the runtime identified by the complete error message or by the Corel installer. Installing unrelated runtime packages will not reliably restore cdrcpr.dll.

Do not use regsvr32 for this file

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM or ActiveX components.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no reliable evidence that cdrcpr.dll is a self-registering component. Running a command such as:

regsvr32 cdrcpr.dll

may produce an error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found. It will not repair a missing dependency, restore the correct Corel build, or fix an incompatible architecture.

Use Corel Repair or the official installer instead.

Driver checks are secondary, not a DLL fix

A graphics driver can cause Corel to crash, display incorrectly, or fail during rendering. It does not normally restore a missing cdrcpr.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use Device Manager only when the symptoms point to a separate graphics problem:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Display adapters.
  4. Right-click the graphics adapter.
  5. Select Properties.
  6. Review the General and Driver tabs.
  7. Install a driver from the computer or graphics-card manufacturer when an update is required.
  8. Restart Windows and test Corel.

Do not uninstall the display adapter merely because cdrcpr.dll is missing. Repair the Corel installation first.

If manually identifying outdated graphics and other device drivers is taking longer than the Corel repair itself, Outbyte Driver Updater offers a free scan that identifies what it finds; driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and a driver update will not replace the Corel DLL when the application installation is damaged.

Why random DLL downloads are a poor fix

Avoid downloading cdrcpr.dll from an unknown DLL archive and copying it into an application or Windows folder. That approach can introduce:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Malware or a tampered file
  • A mismatched Corel release
  • The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit build
  • Missing companion files
  • An invalid or unverifiable signature
  • New startup or application crashes

It can also hide the real cause, such as an incomplete update, antivirus quarantine, or damaged installer cache.

The safe sources are:

  • The Repair or Modify option for the installed Corel product
  • The official Corel account or downloads area
  • The original Corel installer for the exact edition and release

Microsoft system files should come from Windows Update or official Microsoft packages. Corel application files should come from Corel’s installer.

If Corel still will not start

Collect the following before repeating repairs:

  • The exact error text
  • The executable named in the dialog
  • Every path where cdrcpr.dll exists
  • The Corel product and edition
  • The installed product version
  • Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
  • Windows system type
  • Antivirus actions and detection details
  • The result of Corel Repair
  • The result of reinstalling from the official installer
  • Any related entry in Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application

If the dialog appears during Windows startup even though Corel has been uninstalled, identify the orphaned Corel startup item or scheduled task before removing it. Do not delete DLLs blindly.

If the file exists but Windows says it is “not designed to run on Windows,” suspect a corrupted file, wrong architecture, or mismatched Corel build. Repair or reinstall the affected product rather than replacing only that file.

FAQ

Is cdrcpr.dll a Windows file?

No. It is a Corel application DLL associated with the Corel Compression Library and Corel Common Framework. It should not normally be placed in System32 or SysWOW64.

Which program installs cdrcpr.dll?

CorelDRAW and related Corel graphics software are the strongest documented association. Older or bundled Corel components may use similarly named versioned files. The exact product depends on the installation that produced the error.

Should I download cdrcpr.dll separately?

No. Restore it through Corel Repair or reinstall the exact Corel product from Corel’s official installer. A standalone download may be unsafe or incompatible.

Is cdrcpr.dll part of Visual C++?

There is no evidence that it is. Install Visual C++ only when the complete error separately identifies a Visual C++ runtime file such as MSVCP, VCRUNTIME, or api-ms-win-crt.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I copy the file to System32?

No. cdrcpr.dll is an application file, not a Windows system DLL. Copying it to a system directory can create path and version conflicts.

Does regsvr32 repair cdrcpr.dll?

Usually not. regsvr32 applies to DLLs that expose registration entry points. Corel Repair is the appropriate fix for a missing or damaged Corel component.

Why does the error appear after an update?

An incomplete update, failed repair, damaged installer source, antivirus quarantine, or a mismatched edition can leave the Corel installation without the correct file. Repair the installation first, then reinstall if necessary.

What is the correct version of cdrcpr.dll?

There is no single version that applies to every Corel installation. A publicly listed 32-bit record is version 17.1.0.572, but other releases may use different builds and architectures. The correct file is the one supplied with the affected Corel product.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will SFC restore cdrcpr.dll?

Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows components. It may help when broader Windows corruption is present, but Corel Repair or reinstalling Corel is the correct path for this application DLL.
