Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutecellphone_object.dll is an old Sony Ericsson phone-management DLL, not a Windows system file, so the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Sony Ericsson software that installed it. Do not download a replacement from a random DLL site or copy one into System32; the correct build belongs beside the matching Sony Ericsson application.
What this file actually does
The file is identified as cellphone_object Module and was published by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB. Historical installations associate it with Sony Ericsson Mobile Phone Monitor, Sony Ericsson PC Suite, and related Mobile2 phone drivers and utilities.

Its purpose appears to be part of the software layer that lets Windows communicate with an older Sony Ericsson phone. Public records do not provide reliable technical documentation for its exported functions, so it is better described as a phone-management component than as a general Windows runtime.

This is a legacy Win32, 32-bit component according to the strongest available file record. That does not mean modern 64-bit Windows cannot run the parent application. It means the application needs its correct 32-bit DLL and related dependencies. Do not place it manually in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Historical file records report different builds and sizes, so no single version, file size, or checksum should be treated as universal. The right replacement is the one supplied with the matching Sony Ericsson package.

These messages are common DLL error templates rather than confirmed diagnostic wording from Microsoft or Sony Ericsson. The full dialog, especially the name of the executable that failed, is more useful than the DLL filename alone.
Fix 1: Identify the parent Sony Ericsson program
Before changing files, find out which program is requesting the DLL. This prevents you from repairing the wrong installation.
Search for the file
- Press
Win+Eto open File Explorer. - Select This PC.
- In the search box, enter:
text
cellphone_object.dll
- Wait for the search to finish.
- Right-click each result and choose Open file location.
- Inspect the surrounding folders.
A path containing the following is consistent with the historical Sony Ericsson installation:
Sony EricssonMobile2Mobile Phone Monitor
Also note whether the file is present at all. If Windows finds several copies, do not assume the newest-looking one is correct. Multiple Sony Ericsson products may contain different builds.
Check installed applications
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for
Sony Ericsson,PC Suite,Mobile Phone Monitor, orSony Ericsson Drivers.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Search for the same names.
On older Windows versions:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Look for the Sony Ericsson software.
If the error appears while launching a different program, read the executable name in the title bar or dialog. A Sony Ericsson DLL error from a non-Sony Ericsson application may indicate a damaged migration, an incorrect copied file, or an unrelated program that is loading the wrong component.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall Sony Ericsson PC Suite
This is the most likely successful repair because the DLL belongs to the Sony Ericsson application family.
Try Repair, Change, or Modify first
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find Sony Ericsson PC Suite, Mobile Phone Monitor, or the related driver package.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it on Windows 11, or select the program on Windows 10.
- Choose Modify, Change, Repair, or a similar option if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the original Sony Ericsson program again.
Some older installers do not offer a modern Settings repair option. In that case, open the program’s original installer and look for Repair or Modify.
A successful repair should restore cellphone_object.dll inside the application’s own directory and allow the parent program to launch. It should not require copying the DLL into a Windows system folder.
Reinstall when Repair is unavailable
Use this sequence:
- Back up any phone data or application profiles that the old suite stores.
- Uninstall the Sony Ericsson program from Settings > Apps or Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Restart the computer even if Windows does not request it.
- Remove only leftover Sony Ericsson folders that clearly belong to the uninstalled program. Do not delete folders before confirming they are not storing data you need.
- Reinstall from the original Sony Ericsson CD, the phone manufacturer’s recovery media, an archived installer you can verify, or a trusted institutional software archive.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation before connecting the phone.
- Restart Windows.
- Connect the phone and launch the suite.
Sony Ericsson software is discontinued legacy software, and a current official installer page could not be verified. Avoid treating a search result that offers only a loose DLL as an official source. The complete original package is safer because it supplies the DLL, its sibling files, drivers, registry entries, and dependencies together.

- Right-click the installer.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Test an older Windows mode appropriate to the installer.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Choose Apply, then OK.
- Run the installer again.
Compatibility mode cannot guarantee that the phone suite will work on a modern system. If the software remains unreliable, a preserved older Windows installation or a dedicated virtual machine may be safer than repeatedly altering the current system.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an old application component, particularly when the package is obsolete or digitally unrecognized. The filename alone does not prove that a copy is safe, so check the detection before restoring it.

- Review recent detections.
- Open a detection related to
cellphone_object.dllor the Sony Ericsson installer. - Check the detected path, threat name, and source.
- Scan the original installer and its surrounding files.
- Restore the file only if you have confirmed that it came from the legitimate Sony Ericsson package and understand the detection.
Do not disable antivirus merely to force the program to start. If Protection History shows a serious threat, leave the file removed, run a full Microsoft Defender scan, and obtain a clean copy of the complete application from known-good media.
After a legitimate restoration, launch the parent application. If it immediately disappears from quarantine again, the file may be modified, the installer may be unsafe, or the program may be incompatible with current security protections. Reinstall from clean media rather than repeatedly restoring the same file.
Fix 4: Confirm the 32-bit application and dependency arrangement
A 32-bit DLL must normally be loaded by the application that expects it. Modern 64-bit Windows can run many 32-bit programs through its compatibility layer, but that does not make a 32-bit DLL interchangeable with a 64-bit one.
Keep cellphone_object.dll in the same application directory supplied by the Sony Ericsson installer. Do not:
- copy it into
C:WindowsSystem32; - copy it into
C:WindowsSysWOW64; - rename another DLL to
cellphone_object.dll; - combine a file from one Sony Ericsson product with another;
- install a 64-bit replacement for a 32-bit program;
- use a file from an unrelated phone utility.
The message “The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency used by cellphone_object.dll is missing, not that the named file itself is absent. Reinstalling the complete parent program is therefore more useful than copying only the named DLL.

For 0xc000007b, treat the message as a general architecture or dependency problem. Confirm that the parent application is the old 32-bit build, then reinstall its complete package. Randomly adding runtime DLLs often creates another mismatched installation.
Fix 5: Reinstall the related Sony Ericsson drivers
If the software opens but cannot detect the phone, or the error appears when the phone is connected, repair the associated driver package as well.
- Disconnect the phone.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Portable Devices, Universal Serial Bus controllers, and Other devices.
- Look for a Sony Ericsson device, an unknown device, or a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant entry and select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Sony Ericsson PC Suite or driver package from the original verified installer.
- Reconnect the phone only after installation finishes.
- Return to Device Manager and confirm that the device no longer shows a warning icon.
Do not use Device Manager to replace cellphone_object.dll itself. Device Manager handles hardware drivers, not arbitrary application DLLs.
If you are manually updating several old drivers, Outbyte Driver Updater can show which drivers are stale before you change them; its free scan identifies the candidates, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the Sony Ericsson suite remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
If the phone still does not appear, test another cable or USB port and inspect Device Manager for a separate hardware or driver error. Do not assume that a phone connection problem means cellphone_object.dll is missing.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when broader corruption is suspected
cellphone_object.dll is not identified as a protected Windows component. Therefore, System File Checker and Deployment Image Servicing and Management will not normally recreate it. They are still appropriate if other Windows files are failing or several unrelated applications have begun showing corruption errors.
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
text
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to complete.
- Restart Windows.
Run SFC second
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Restart Windows afterward and test the Sony Ericsson application.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If Windows reports that it repaired files, test the application. If it reports that it could not fix everything, review the result and continue with the Sony Ericsson reinstall rather than expecting SFC to supply this third-party DLL.
Repeating DISM and SFC without identifying what changed rarely repairs an application-specific file. Outbyte PC Repair can show a scan of broader Windows issues before you decide whether an automated repair is useful; its free scan identifies problems, while repair is performed by the full version. For this file, reinstalling the Sony Ericsson program remains the definitive fix.

Why regsvr32 usually does not fix this error
regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal missing-DLL repair command.
Do not run this as a routine fix:
regsvr32 cellphone_object.dll
If the DLL is not self-registering, Windows may report that the entry point was not found. That result does not prove the file is bad. Only use regsvr32 if documentation for the exact Sony Ericsson installer specifically requires registration and gives the correct file path and command.
What not to do
Avoid the common shortcuts that create harder problems:
- Do not download
cellphone_object.dllfrom a random DLL website. - Do not use a file with an unverified version, architecture, or origin.
- Do not copy it into Windows system directories.
- Do not replace it with a similarly named Sony Ericsson file.
- Do not disable antivirus permanently.
- Do not assume Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is the fix.
- Do not run registry cleaners to “repair” the DLL.
- Do not treat a third-party file size or version as universal.
- Do not restore a quarantined copy until its source and detection are understood.
A loose DLL may contain malware, may belong to a different Sony Ericsson build, or may leave the real missing dependency untouched. Reinstalling the complete parent application is the safer repair.

FAQ
Is cellphone_object.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Sony Ericsson phone-management software and should not normally be installed in System32 or SysWOW64.
What program installed it?
The strongest historical association is with Sony Ericsson Mobile Phone Monitor, Sony Ericsson PC Suite, and related Mobile2 drivers and utilities. Identify the calling executable before repairing anything.
Should I download the DLL separately?
No. The correct file is application-specific and may differ between Sony Ericsson products. Restore it through the matching complete installer.
Is it a Microsoft Visual C++ or DirectX file?
There is no evidence that this filename belongs to Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Installing those runtimes is not the primary repair.
Can 64-bit Windows run it?
Often, yes, because many older 32-bit applications run on 64-bit Windows. The application still needs its correct 32-bit dependencies in its own installation directory.
Why does Windows say the module cannot be found when the file exists?
A dependency loaded by cellphone_object.dll may be missing, or the file may be incompatible or damaged. Reinstall the complete Sony Ericsson package rather than copying another DLL.
Will SFC restore it?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows components, while this is a third-party application DLL.
What if the program is still broken after reinstalling?
Confirm the exact executable in the error, inspect the installation directory for missing sibling files, review Event Viewer or the application logs, and check whether antivirus is removing the file again. If the legacy suite cannot operate reliably on Windows 10 or Windows 11, use a preserved older environment or remove it when possible.
