For a steadier climb in Chained Together, agree on who moves first, communicate before jumps, and watch how the simulated chain catches around platforms. Choose Beginner if you want checkpoints, Normal for the punishing climb, or Lava if you want rising flames; only Normal and Lava count for Steam leaderboards and achievements.
Choose a mode that fits your group
The right mode depends on what you want a fall to cost. The game’s Steam store page describes three options: Beginner has checkpoints, Normal is a punishing climb, and Lava adds constantly rising flames. It says leaderboards and achievements are valid only in Normal and Lava modes, so Beginner is the checkpoint-oriented choice rather than a route to the same recorded progress. Coordinate around the chain
The chain is not just a connection between players: the store page says it is fully simulated and can wrap around platforms. That means it may catch on geometry instead of following a straight line. Before moving, say who is going first and make sure everyone is ready; during a difficult section, keep communication short and call out when the chain appears caught. These are practical coordination suggestions based on the published mechanics, not verified obstacle-by-obstacle instructions.
Use a simple group rhythm
- Pause before a jump or narrow passage and agree who will lead.
- Move deliberately rather than having everyone jump at once.
- If the chain catches around a platform, stop and communicate before changing direction.
The game supports solo play and groups of up to four, including online co-op, local shared or split-screen co-op, and Steam Remote Play Together. Those options let you choose a setup that suits the group, but the available official information does not establish a preferred controller or compatibility for every device.

Be cautious with older trampoline tips
Trampoline behavior has changed: in an official September 21 hotfix, the Chained Together team said it adjusted individual and group trampoline mechanics. The same post says the “super jump” in 2v2 Race Mode is intended behavior. Because the announcement does not specify a year here, treat trampoline advice as version- and mode-sensitive and check the current game behavior before relying on an older technique. Try Race Mode for a separate competition
2v2 Race Mode is a competitive option distinct from the regular climb. The Steam store description presents it as a 30-minute race involving climbing, jumping, swimming, and driving. Its trampoline behavior can differ from standard play, so do not assume a trick that works in one mode works in the other.

Use Workshop maps for new challenges
On Steam, the official Workshop flow lets players create maps with the integrated editor, publish them to Steam Workshop, subscribe to maps, and choose Workshop mode when creating a game. It is a way to try community-made challenges beyond the standard climb; the announcement does not certify the difficulty or quality of individual maps. The official game information supports broad guidance about modes, co-op, chain physics, trampolines, Race Mode, and Workshop maps. It does not provide reliable button-by-button control mappings, precise jump timing, a verified route through every obstacle, or full achievement requirements. For completion goals such as finding all Wings of Freedom locations or earning every achievement, use a guide that documents the specific route or requirement rather than assuming general coordination advice is enough.
