Timberborn Update 6, titled “Wonders of Water,” brought full 3D water physics, official mod support with Steam Workshop integration, automated sluices, and faction-specific end-game Wonders to the game’s main branch on October 10, 2024. Its defining change made aqueducts and underwater construction possible, while new building tools expanded vertical design and automation.
What did Timberborn Update 6 add?
Update 6 replaced Timberborn’s earlier 2.5D water system with 3D water physics. In its October 10, 2024 main-branch announcement, developer Mechanistry said the new physics allowed players to build aqueducts and underwater cities.
The update also broadened construction, automation, late-game objectives, customization, and community content. Mechanistry’s release announcement and update overview describe the additions.
Water, construction, and automation
- 3D water physics: The core system change enabled aqueducts and underwater building.
- Automated sluices: Added a way to automate sluice operation.
- Overhangs and Vertical Power Shafts: New construction options extended building and power networks vertically.
End-game goals and other additions
- Faction-specific Wonders: End-game projects with tangible rewards gave each faction an additional long-term goal.
- Cliffside: A new map joined a set of map reworks.
- Beaver customization and presentation: Customizable tails, extra animations, construction stages, and construction guidelines expanded visual detail and building feedback.
- Languages and mods: The update added in-game languages and official mod support with Steam Workshop integration.
When did Update 6 come out?
Mechanistry announced an experimental build on June 25, 2024, then released Update 6 to the main branch on October 10, 2024. The June date marks the experimental announcement, not the full main-branch release.

Players who followed the developer’s experimental-build instructions could try the new systems before the main release. During that experimental phase, Steam Workshop access also required joining the Timberborn Workshop group. Those early-access steps applied to the experimental period; the October announcement marked the update’s arrival on the main branch.
Does Timberborn have 3D water physics?
Yes. Update 6 introduced 3D water physics to Timberborn. In the June 25, 2024 experimental announcement, Mechanistry described the previous system as a “cleverly designed 2.5-dimensional system.” The developer’s October release announcement said the water physics was “now 3D,” enabling aqueducts and underwater cities. These descriptions are the developer’s account of the update, rather than the result of an independent technical test.

Did Update 6 add Steam Workshop mods?
Yes. Update 6 introduced official mod support with Steam Workshop integration. The experimental-build announcement specified an additional step for Workshop access during testing: players had to join the Timberborn Workshop group. That experimental access requirement should not be confused with the main-branch release on October 10, 2024.
