Short answer: there is no defensible single “cheapest” Abiotic Factor host until you match player slots, currency, billing term, renewal price, tax and location. A HostMyGame comparison published on 27 August 2026 lists NitroServ at €6.99 per month for six players. The same comparison lists Minestrator at €6.99 for only three players, with its six-player tier at €13.99. Game Host Bros advertises plans from $11.99 per month, but that is a starting price rather than a confirmed six-player checkout total. Treat these as dated price snapshots, not a universal ranking.
For most friend groups, compare plans for six players or fewer. The developer’s launch-parameter documentation allows configurations up to 24 players, but warns that more than six is not recommended. Before paying, verify the recurring total for your country, the actual datacenter, backup and restore controls, and whether your existing save can be moved.

The practical baseline is a six-player server. That covers a normal co-op group while staying inside the developer’s recommended range. A cheaper three-slot plan is not cheaper if a fourth friend cannot join, so compare the total capacity you will actually use rather than the lowest headline number.
| Provider and plan | Advertised price | Capacity stated in the source | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| NitroServ | €6.99 per month | Six players | Lowest six-player figure in the dated European comparison; verify renewal, tax and location at checkout. |
| Minestrator MyBox 4 | €6.99 per month | Up to three players | Same headline price as NitroServ, but not the same capacity. |
| Minestrator MyBox 8 | €13.99 per month | Up to six players | Comparable to NitroServ by stated slots, but twice the listed monthly price. |
| Game Host Bros | From $11.99 per month | Starting plan; six-player checkout total not stated | US-dollar starting price with vendor-advertised 6 GB Starter, daily backups, DDoS protection and crossplay; confirm the exact plan and renewal total. |
The euro figures come from HostMyGame’s comparison dated 27 August 2026, which says prices and promotional codes were checked in 2026 and discloses affiliate links. Prices can change. The Game Host Bros figure is an advertised starting price shown on its product page accessed 13 October 2026; it is not a like-for-like six-player quote. None of these figures is an independent measurement of uptime, tick rate or server performance.

Why a “cheapest host” list can be misleading
Capacity changes the real monthly price
Providers package resources differently. One €6.99 plan may allow three players while another allows six. Some prices are per slot, some are for a fixed package, and some show an introductory month rather than the recurring renewal. Write down the required capacity first, then compare plans with the same number of slots and the same billing period.
Currency, tax and renewal terms are not interchangeable
A euro headline and a dollar headline cannot be ranked without an exchange rate, local tax, payment fees and the provider’s renewal policy. Check whether the displayed amount is monthly, a 30-day period, or an annual commitment divided by 12. Look for the price after any first-month promotion and the date on which it renews.
Location affects experience
Choose a datacenter close to the players, not merely a country name on a marketing page. A listed location is not a measured latency guarantee. If friends are spread across continents, ask whether the panel lets you change locations and whether moving incurs a fee or wipes the server.
What the dated provider evidence actually shows
NitroServ
HostMyGame’s 27 August 2026 comparison reports a six-player NitroServ plan at €6.99 per month. The comparison describes dedicated AMD Ryzen 5950X cores, NVMe storage, automatic backups and a France datacenter. Those are the comparison publisher’s reported plan details, not an independent benchmark. Confirm the current hardware allocation, backup retention and French or alternative locations in the order flow.

Minestrator
The same comparison lists Minestrator MyBox 4 at €6.99 per month for up to three players and MyBox 8 at €13.99 per month for up to six. This is a useful illustration of why price alone is insufficient: the cheaper Minestrator tier does not match a six-player requirement.
Game Host Bros
Its Abiotic Factor page accessed 13 October 2026 advertises plans starting at $11.99 per month and lists a 6 GB Starter option, daily backups, DDoS protection and crossplay. These are vendor claims. The starting price does not establish what six players, local tax, a particular region or a renewal month will cost, so obtain a complete checkout total before comparing it with euro plans.

An 11 October 2026 comparison result shows GPORTAL at $10.23 for six slots per 30 days, LOW.MS at $10.65 per month for six slots, and XGamingServer at $7 for the first month followed by $10 per month. The result page was not available for full review and the listings do not share terms. Use them only as leads to investigate at the providers’ current checkout pages, not as final recommendations.

- Set the slot target. Use six or fewer unless you have a specific reason to exceed the developer’s recommended range. Do not pay for 12 or 24 slots merely because the number appears in a selector.
- Record the recurring total. Capture currency, billing period, tax, payment fee, renewal rate and any one-time setup charge. Save a screenshot or invoice so a promotional first month is not mistaken for the normal price.
- Check the actual region. Confirm the available datacenter and ask whether it can be changed later. A region label alone does not prove low latency for your group.
- Inspect backups. Find the schedule, retention period, number of stored generations, and whether you can trigger a backup before a mod or update. Confirm that save files can be downloaded instead of being locked inside the panel.
- Test restore rights. A backup that support staff alone can restore is different from a one-click restore you can perform. Ask whether restoring replaces the live save and whether the panel keeps a safety copy.
- Review management tools. Look for file access, launch-parameter editing, server updates, restart scheduling, log viewing and permission controls. Panels differ; do not assume a port, folder name or setting is identical between hosts.
- Check support coverage. Compare support hours, response-channel options and whether migration assistance is included. A low monthly price may be less attractive if every recovery requires a paid ticket.
- Confirm platform and save compatibility. Make sure every player can join the same hosted server and that the save you care about can be moved. The documented migration path is for Steam saves and does not support PS5, Xbox or Windows Game Pass saves.
Player limits and what they mean for cost
The official launch-parameter page says a server can be configured for one to 24 players, then gives this warning: “WARNING: Increasing player count over 6 is not recommended and will provide users with a warning popup before joining the server.” The six-player ceiling is therefore a sensible comparison point, not a hard technical maximum.
Higher slot counts can also change the resource tier a provider assigns. Because no independent performance test is established for the prices above, do not infer that a larger slot package will run better. Buy the smallest plan that covers the group, observe the server under your real save and player load, and upgrade only if you see a genuine resource or capacity problem.

What renting removes
A rented host supplies the computer, power, network connection and a control panel in a datacenter. You do not need to leave a home PC switched on, configure your router, or troubleshoot a residential connection that disappears when the host player closes the game. You still remain responsible for checking updates, backups, access permissions and the provider’s limits.
What self-hosting costs even without a hosting invoice
Self-hosting avoids a monthly hosting bill but is not free. You provide a Windows machine that can remain online, electricity, an internet connection with sufficient upload capacity and your own time for updates, restarts, backups and security. The developer’s documented dedicated-server route is currently Windows-only. A spare desktop or an always-on Windows mini PC can work in principle, but the documentation does not state a minimum CPU, memory or storage specification, so do not buy hardware on an assumed requirement.

Home networking limitations
The Quickstart uses game port 7777 and query port 27015 as examples and says port forwarding may be needed when the server does not appear in the browser. Those are example settings, not a promise that every host uses the same ports or exposes them in the same way. Some homes sit behind carrier-grade NAT, where router forwarding cannot create an inbound path. If your ISP uses carrier-grade NAT, renting or obtaining a public address may be simpler than repeatedly changing router rules.
Self-hosting setup path on Windows
The developer-linked Quickstart identifies SteamCMD as the installation method and App ID 2857200 for the dedicated-server tool. A practical setup sequence is:
- Prepare a Windows machine that can stay powered on whenever friends need access. Apply Windows updates and use a separate system account for the server where practical.
- Install SteamCMD from Valve’s official distribution, open it, and sign in anonymously as documented by the Quickstart.
- Use App ID
2857200to download or update the dedicated-server files. Keep the installation directory on storage with enough free space for the server and its saves. - Set the server name, password, world and launch parameters in the files or shortcuts provided by the current Quickstart. Keep a copy of the configuration outside the live folder.
- Allow the server executable through Windows Firewall. If the server is not visible to outside players, forward the game and query ports shown by the current configuration; the Quickstart’s examples are 7777 and 27015.
- Start the server and have a friend test joining from outside your home network. A local test alone will not reveal a forwarding or carrier-grade-NAT problem.
- Back up the save while the server is stopped or in the provider’s documented safe state. Store at least one copy on a different drive or computer.
Panel-based hosts may hide these steps behind installers and forms. Do not apply home-router instructions to a rented server unless the provider specifically requests it; the provider controls its datacenter network.

The developer-maintained migration guide documents a route from a Steam player-hosted world to a dedicated server. It is not a universal cross-platform converter: PS5, Xbox and Windows Game Pass saves are not supported by that route. Before ordering, identify where the current save originated and whether the host can upload the relevant files.

Make an untouched copy of the original save before migration. Upload the copy through the host’s file manager or support process, start the server with the matching world settings, and verify inventory, progression and player permissions with the group. Keep the original offline until everyone confirms that the dedicated world is correct.

Common failure modes and fixes
The server is invisible in the browser
Check that the process is running, the query port is open, and Windows Firewall or the provider’s network policy is not blocking it. For a home server, verify router forwarding and whether the ISP uses carrier-grade NAT. On a rented host, contact support with the server ID and the time of the test rather than changing ports at random.
A friend cannot join but the owner can
Test from a different network, confirm the friend is using a supported platform, and check that the server password and version match. A local owner connection can succeed even when the public route is broken.
The world rolled back
Stop making further changes, preserve the current save, and identify the newest valid backup. Ask whether the panel’s restore operation replaces the live files and whether it creates a pre-restore copy. If you self-host, restore to a separate directory first so you can compare files without destroying evidence.
The plan feels underpowered
Record when lag occurs, how many players are online and what activity is happening in the world. Ask the provider what CPU, memory and storage resources are actually allocated. Do not assume that buying more advertised slots fixes a problem caused by a distant region, a configuration error or a failing network route.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA purchase checklist for a six-player group
- Six-player capacity at the recurring price, not just a three-slot promotional tier.
- Currency, tax, payment fees and renewal amount shown before payment.
- Datacenter close to the majority of players and a clear relocation policy.
- Automatic backup frequency, retention, manual backup option and downloadable saves.
- Restore controls that you can use safely, plus support escalation.
- File manager, launch-parameter access, update controls and scheduled restarts.
- Compatibility with the group’s platforms and with a Steam save migration if needed.
- No assumption that vendor feature claims equal independent performance results.
On the dated evidence available for 2026, NitroServ is the lowest listed six-player euro price at €6.99 per month, while Minestrator’s comparable six-player listing is €13.99 and Game Host Bros starts at $11.99. Those numbers answer only the narrow question of what was advertised on specific dates. The good purchase is the plan that remains affordable after matching capacity, renewal terms, region, backups and save compatibility.
