AleForge had the lowest currently actionable advertised starting price found for a managed Mindustry server: $1.99 per month for 1 GB of RAM. That is a provider-listed entry price, not a verified checkout or renewal total. Confirm the billing term, taxes, renewal rate, included resources, and availability before paying. A cheaper number shown by XProvider is not presently comparable because its Mindustry offers are marked “Bientôt disponible” (coming soon) and orders are suspended.
If you already own an always-on computer, self-hosting can remove the monthly hosting charge. It also makes you responsible for Java, networking, security, backups, uptime, and troubleshooting. The best value therefore depends on whether you want the lowest bill, a continuously available world, easy administration, or room for mods and more players.

What “cheapest but still good” means for a Mindustry server
A low monthly number is only useful if the plan is orderable and supplies enough CPU, memory, storage, and access for your group. The reviewed pages do not provide controlled Mindustry benchmarks, independent uptime records, or a common test workload. Advertised player-slot counts are not proof that a server will remain responsive with a large map, many units, or a mod-heavy game.
Judge an offer on the complete checkout price and these practical factors:
#1 Best Overall

- Resources: usable RAM, CPU allocation, storage, and any limits on processes or backups.
- Workload: number of simultaneous players, map size, enemy waves, automation, and mods.
- Location: a datacenter near most players generally reduces latency.
- Administration: console access, file transfer, configuration editing, restart controls, and a panel that your group can operate.
- Recovery: scheduled backups, retention, and a tested restore path.
- Terms: currency, billing duration, taxes, renewal pricing, suspension rules, and whether the displayed tier is actually orderable.
Because currencies, plan definitions, and billing periods differ, a raw price ranking can mislead. Treat the figures below as observed provider listings, not a market average or a performance ranking.
Managed Mindustry hosting prices compared
| Provider | Advertised starting offer | Disclosed details | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| AleForge | $1.99/month for 1 GB RAM | Also lists 2 GB for $3.99/month, 3 GB for $5.99/month, and 4 GB for $7.99/month; the page claims unlimited slots, backups, and mod support. | Whether the entry price is still live, which billing term it uses, and the checkout and renewal totals. Features are vendor claims, not independent tests. |
| XProvider | €2.99/month shown; a €3.99 tier is also displayed | Lists a 1 GB/1 vCPU/10 GB “Node” tier and a 2 GB/2 vCPU/20 GB “Reactor” tier, with player-count, panel, and backup information. | The same page says “Bientôt disponible” and that orders are suspended. Do not treat these figures as an available bargain until ordering resumes. |
| Monolith Corp | From £4.50/month | Germany region; Pterodactyl panel, console, SFTP, scheduled backups, and a pay-as-you-play listing of £0.01 per GB-hour. | The provider says checkout is the authoritative source for live limits and prices. Confirm how the hourly option is calculated and what remains available after stopping a server. |
| Server.pro | From $7/month for Hosting; Gaming starts at $15/month | Hosting lists 4 GB memory; Gaming plans list 8–32 GB, root access, daily backups, dedicated IPv4, and multiple locations. | Choose the correct product line and check its billing period. This is above the lowest listed entry price, and all performance and feature statements are provider descriptions. |
On the evidence available, AleForge is the lowest usable advertised starting point. That conclusion is limited to the offers observed in this check and to their displayed prices; it does not establish that AleForge is fastest, has the best uptime, or will remain cheapest at renewal.
AleForge: the budget shortlist leader
The AleForge listing starts at $1.99 per month for 1 GB of RAM. Its displayed ladder is straightforward: $3.99 for 2 GB, $5.99 for 3 GB, and $7.99 for 4 GB per month. The page also advertises unlimited slots, backups, and mod support.
Those claims answer common buying questions but do not tell you the CPU share, storage type, backup retention, or actual player capacity under your particular map and mod set. “Unlimited slots” means the plan does not publish a fixed slot ceiling; it cannot guarantee that an unlimited number of players will be playable. Before ordering, ask or verify:
- Is $1.99 a recurring monthly price, a first-term promotion, or a price that changes with the billing cycle?
- What are the CPU allocation, storage quota, and port limits on the 1 GB tier?
- Are backups automatic, how many are retained, and can you download them?
- Can you upload and remove mods through SFTP or a file manager?
- What happens to the world and backups if payment fails or the server is cancelled?
For a small vanilla group, the 1 GB listing is the sensible price to check first. If your world uses substantial mods or regularly hosts a larger group, compare the 2–4 GB tiers rather than assuming the cheapest tier will scale.

Why the lower-looking XProvider price is not a live alternative
XProvider displays a €2.99 monthly offer and another tier at €3.99. It also specifies resource combinations—1 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, and 10 GB storage for Node; 2 GB RAM, 2 vCPUs, and 20 GB for Reactor—along with player, backup, and panel information.
The availability qualification changes the decision: the product page labels the offers “Bientôt disponible” (coming soon) and says orders are suspended. A displayed price for a suspended product is not an orderable price. Recheck the page and checkout later if you are considering it, but do not count it as the cheapest usable host today.

When Monolith or Server.pro can be better value
Monolith Corp
Monolith lists Mindustry hosting from £4.50 per month in Germany. Its disclosed management stack includes a Pterodactyl panel, console access, SFTP, and scheduled backups. It also presents a pay-as-you-play figure of £0.01 per GB-hour.
The hourly number needs arithmetic for your actual runtime: a continuously running server accumulates hours every month, while an occasionally used server may cost less. Storage, backup retention, stopped-server behavior, taxes, and the exact resources attached to the hourly option must be checked at checkout. Monolith explicitly says checkout is the source of truth for current plan limits and prices, so the headline “from” amount should not be treated as a guaranteed configuration.
Server.pro
Server.pro lists a Hosting product from $7 per month with 4 GB of memory. Its Gaming line starts at $15 per month and lists 8–32 GB tiers, root access, daily backups, dedicated IPv4, and several locations.

This may suit a group that values more memory, root-level control, or a particular location over the lowest monthly bill. Compare the total resource allocation and administrative features with the exact workload; do not compare the $7 Hosting entry directly with a different Gaming tier as if they were equivalent products.

No reviewed source supplies a controlled sizing chart, so there is no evidence-based player number that can be promised for 1 GB, 2 GB, or any other tier. Use the advertised RAM as a starting constraint, then watch real usage after your map and mods are loaded.
- Small vanilla group: start with the least expensive tier that gives you console and file access, then leave headroom for map growth and backups.
- Mods or busy wave maps: favor the next memory tier and a plan with clear CPU allocation; mods can add entities and processing that slot counts do not reveal.
- Growing community: prioritize upgrade paths, restore tools, and a location near players over a temporary promotional price.
Ask the host how upgrades work and whether the world remains intact when changing tiers. A low price is poor value if migration requires rebuilding the server or if a full disk prevents backups.
The free route: run a dedicated server yourself
Mindustry’s official Wiki describes dedicated servers as “standalone, headless versions of the game” focused on multiplayer. You can run one on a dedicated Linux or Windows machine. The cost can be close to zero if you already have suitable hardware and an internet connection, but electricity, hardware wear, bandwidth, and your time are real costs.
The official FAQ says a dedicated server will run on a Raspberry Pi as long as the correct Java version is installed. That establishes technical possibility, not a guarantee for every player count, map, mod set, or performance target.

Basic dedicated-server setup
- Prepare the machine. Use an always-on Linux or Windows computer, install the Java version required by the Mindustry server release, and download the server release from the official Mindustry distribution.
- Launch the server. From the directory containing the jar, run
java -jar [server].jar. Replace the bracketed name with the actual file name; keep the command in a service, terminal multiplexer, or startup task if the machine must survive logout. - Host a map. At the server console, run
host <mapname> [mode]. Substitute the map name and, where needed, the game mode. - Open the firewall. For Windows, the Wiki identifies port 6567 on both TCP and UDP. Apply equivalent inbound rules on Linux or on your network firewall.
- Forward the port. Players outside your home network need router port forwarding to the server’s local address. Give the machine a stable local address so the rule does not break after a reboot.
- Test externally. Have a player on a different network connect while you watch the server console. A successful local test does not prove that public forwarding works.
A LAN or Steam-hosted game is a different arrangement: it is intended for a few players on the local network and normally ends when the host closes the game. A dedicated process can remain online independently, which is why it is the better choice for a persistent world.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Self-hosting trade-offs and security
Self-hosting transfers administration from a provider to you. You must install updates, restrict operating-system access, create and test backups, investigate crashes, and keep the machine powered on. Residential upload capacity and changing public IP addresses can also affect access.
Port forwarding exposes a service through your home connection. The official Wiki warns about the security implications of exposing your public IP and suggests a web host or cloud service as alternatives. Use a firewall, keep Java and the operating system updated, avoid running unrelated services on the server, and do not publish more network information than players need.
Back up the world and configuration to a separate device. A backup on the same disk does not protect against disk failure, theft, or ransomware. Periodically restore a copy on a test instance so you know the files are usable.

Checks to make before paying any host
- Record the currency, billing interval, tax treatment, introductory period, and renewal price shown at checkout.
- Confirm that the exact plan is available now, not merely listed in a catalog.
- Match the datacenter to the players who will connect most often.
- Check RAM, CPU, storage, bandwidth or transfer limits, and whether upgrades are possible without wiping the world.
- Verify console, SFTP or equivalent file access, mod installation procedure, and restart controls.
- Read backup frequency, retention, download, and restore terms.
- Find the cancellation and data-deletion policy before uploading a valuable world.
- Ask how support handles a crashed server and whether there is a status page or incident history.
None of the reviewed provider pages establishes comparative uptime or real-world Mindustry performance. Treat those qualities as unverified until you test the service yourself or obtain credible, workload-specific evidence.
Best Value
Which option fits your situation?
Choose the lowest managed price
Check AleForge’s $1.99 1 GB listing first, then verify the live checkout and renewal terms. This is the clearest answer when your priority is a currently displayed, orderable entry price.
Choose predictable administration
Compare panel, console, SFTP, scheduled backups, and restoration procedures. Monolith’s disclosed Pterodactyl and SFTP tools may matter more than its higher starting price if several people will administer the server.
Choose more headroom
Look at the higher AleForge tiers or Server.pro’s larger Gaming tiers when your group needs more memory, root access, or a particular location. Pay for resources you can explain from your workload, not for an advertised slot number.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Choose no hosting subscription
Self-host on an existing machine if you can keep it online and accept responsibility for Java, port forwarding, security, backups, and outages. A Raspberry Pi is documented as possible with the correct Java version, but suitability for your specific workload remains to be tested.
Bottom line
For the offers checked, AleForge’s advertised $1.99-per-month 1 GB plan is the lowest usable managed starting price. It is not a guarantee of the lowest final or renewal bill, nor evidence of superior performance. XProvider’s lower-looking euro listing is suspended, while Monolith and Server.pro cost more but disclose administration or resource options that may better fit demanding groups. If you already have reliable hardware, the official dedicated-server route can avoid a hosting fee, provided you are prepared to operate and secure it.
