To host Chosen’s Modded Adventure, use the official CMA Server Files 0.9.2 archive, extract it into a clean server directory, launch the included start file, and have every player install the same 0.9.2 pack for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. Do not assemble the server by copying individual mods unless the release does not provide a server archive.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
Pin the exact release before you install anything
The project listing identifies Chosen’s Modded Adventure as a Minecraft 1.20.1 pack using the Forge loader. Its latest listed release is Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2, dated May 3, 2024. Treat those three labels—pack release, Minecraft version, and loader—as one compatibility target. A client running another Minecraft version, another loader, or another pack revision is not an equivalent installation.

What you need before the first launch
You need a computer or hosted instance that can run a Java-based Forge server, permission to create and write to a dedicated folder, and a network path that your friends can reach. The pack pages do not publish an authoritative Java version, memory allocation, processor requirement, or supported player count. Those values can depend on the files in the archive, your operating system, world size, view distance, and the number of simultaneous players.
#1 Best Overall
- DELUXE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, three Bedrock add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
After downloading the archive, inspect its included launch scripts and documentation for the expected Java executable and memory flags. Use those values instead of copying a command from an unrelated Forge tutorial. If the archive includes a bundled runtime or a stated Java requirement, follow that information; if it does not, verify the compatible Java release for the Forge build you downloaded before troubleshooting memory or startup errors.
- Have enough free storage for the archive, extracted libraries, the world, backups, and future update copies.
- Use a folder dedicated to this server rather than a general Downloads directory.
- Keep an untouched copy of the original server archive so you can compare files after updates.
- Decide whether the server will run on your own network or on a managed host before configuring public access.
Download the official server pack
The Files area contains a separate entry named CMA Server Files 0.9.2 under the Minecraft 1.20 Server Packs category. That archive is the starting point for a multiplayer server because it is assembled for server use, including the pack’s server-side files and launch material.
- Open the official Chosen’s Modded Adventure project listing and go to its Files area.
- Locate the file named CMA Server Files 0.9.2 in the Minecraft 1.20 Server Packs section. Check the filename and release before downloading; several historical 1.20.1 Forge files can appear together.
- Download the archive to a temporary location, then create a new, clearly named server directory outside your client instance folders.
- Extract the archive directly into that directory. Avoid creating an unnecessary second level such as
server/server-pack-0.9.2/if the archive already contains the intended root structure. - Confirm that the extracted directory retains its configuration files, libraries, mods, and launch scripts. Do not delete files simply because they are unfamiliar.
A server pack is preferable to manually copying a client profile because it preserves the release’s expected file layout. Manual assembly can omit server-only libraries, configuration files, or scripts and may produce a server that starts but does not match the clients.
Run the included start file
Use the launch file supplied in the extracted archive rather than inventing a generic Forge command. The exact filename, shell syntax, Java executable, and memory arguments vary by operating system and by the archive’s contents.
- Open the dedicated server folder and identify the included start file for your operating system.
- Run it from inside that folder so relative paths resolve to the bundled libraries, mods, and configuration directories.
- Watch the console during the first launch. The server may create additional files and may stop while presenting an EULA step.
- If an EULA file or acceptance prompt appears, read the terms and complete the acceptance required by the server software. Do not bypass that step by downloading a different executable.
- Start the server again after the initial files are generated. Wait for the console to report that the server is ready before attempting a connection.
Do not close the console by killing the process when you are finished. Use the server’s normal stop command or the method documented in the included files so the world can save cleanly. A graceful stop reduces the chance of a damaged region or an incomplete configuration write.

Set the world and access rules
Once the first launch has created the configuration, set the operational values you want for your group. The pack documentation does not prescribe a particular difficulty, world seed, view distance, or player limit, so choose values based on the machine and play style rather than treating a tutorial’s defaults as official requirements.

Give the server a recognizable name and set difficulty, game rules, world-generation options, and any seed before inviting players. If you change world-generation settings after the world exists, the change may affect only newly generated terrain and can create an inconsistent experience.
Operators and whitelist
Grant operator privileges only to trusted administrators. A whitelist is useful for a private group because it prevents an accidental public listing or an exposed address from admitting unknown players. Test an ordinary player account after enabling it so you know the access rule works before sharing the address.
Backups
Choose a backup schedule that matches how often your group plays. Keep at least one copy outside the live server directory, and retain a pre-update copy of the world. A backup that sits in the same folder can be lost with the original disk or overwritten during a failed update.
Make the server reachable
Players on the same local network may be able to connect using the host computer’s local address. Friends outside that network need a reachable public endpoint, which can involve router port forwarding, firewall rules, a VPN-based private network, or a managed hosting panel. The correct method depends on your network and provider; the modpack itself does not establish internet access.

- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
- Allow the Java server process through the operating-system firewall when prompted, limiting the rule to the networks you intend to use.
- If you forward a port on a home router, forward it to the host computer’s fixed local address and document the rule so it can be removed later.
- Do not publish an unrestricted administrative interface or share operator credentials with players.
- Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, rather than assuming that a successful local connection proves outside access.
If a managed host is used, confirm that it supports the exact Forge server pack before uploading a world. Check its resource limits, backup controls, data-center region, restore process, and current terms; a panel that supports vanilla Minecraft is not automatically suitable for this pack.
Install the matching client profile
Every player should install the same pinned project release through a launcher that exposes the pack’s version and loader labels. The launcher profile must identify the 1.20.1 game version, Forge, and release 0.9.2. Installing individual mods by hand is unnecessary when the client pack and server archive are available.
- Create or import a profile for Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2.
- Verify that the profile uses Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge before launching it.
- Start the profile once in single-player or at the title screen so the launcher creates its client files.
- Use the server address supplied by the administrator and connect only after the server console reports readiness.
- If the connection fails, compare the profile’s displayed version and loader with the server archive before removing or replacing any mod.
The client needs the complete mod and configuration set expected by the server. A profile that has the right headline version but a manually removed mod, an extra client-only mod in the wrong place, or a changed configuration can still fail the handshake.
Why the pack is worth the setup
The official description presents the pack as an immersive combination of exploration, Ars Nouveau magic, and technology from the Create mod. Building tools tie those systems together: players can explore for resources, develop magical capabilities, automate production, and construct larger projects rather than following a single linear progression.

Minecraft
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
That combination also explains why a server pack matters. Exploration generates persistent world data, magic systems add mod-specific configuration, and Create machinery can produce many moving or ticking components. Keeping the official server distribution intact gives those systems the same baseline on every installation.

The server-pack file is missing
Return to the Files area and filter for the exact release and the Minecraft 1.20 Server Packs category. Check that you are not viewing only client files or a different historical release. If a future release has no server pack, the general CurseForge guidance is to use the official installer for the relevant modloader as a fallback, but that route requires you to verify which files are server-safe and how the pack expects them to be launched.
The server closes immediately
Read the first error in the console rather than the final shutdown line. Common causes include an incompatible Java runtime, a missing library, a failed EULA step, an unwritable directory, or a launch script run from the wrong working folder. Compare the archive’s instructions and scripts with your environment before changing memory settings. Re-extracting the untouched archive into a new folder is a useful test for accidental file deletion or a polluted directory.
A player receives a missing-mod or incompatible-version error
Check four labels in order: Minecraft version, Forge loader, pack release, and the complete mod/configuration set. Have the player open the launcher profile details while you inspect the server archive. Do not start by swapping one mod for a newer download; that can create a second mismatch and makes the original cause harder to identify.
The client reaches the address but cannot complete the handshake
Confirm that the server is fully started, the player is using the correct address and port, and no firewall or router rule is interrupting the connection. Then compare the client and server contents. A successful network connection only proves that the endpoint is reachable; it does not prove loader or mod compatibility.

The server starts but feels slow
Measure the workload while players are online and inspect the Java arguments in the supplied start file. The available pack information does not establish a guaranteed RAM amount, CPU model, benchmark, or player capacity, so avoid adopting a fixed number from a generic modded-server article. Reduce view or simulation distance only after recording the original setting, and check whether a particular world area or Create machine causes the load.

The world must move to a newer pack release
Stop the server cleanly, make a complete world backup, and test the new release in a separate copy. Record both the old and new pack versions, keep the original archive, and do not let the test world overwrite the live one. The Files page lists multiple historical 1.20.1 Forge releases, which is why an explicit version record is important even when the Minecraft version appears unchanged.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Both approaches can run the same server pack. Self-hosting gives you direct access to every file and avoids a recurring hosting bill, while managed hosting shifts operating-system maintenance and network administration to a provider. A hosting provider has published a guide for installing this exact pack through a control panel, showing that managed installation is a practical category for readers who do not want to administer a local machine. Verify current support before committing.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted server | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Installation effort | Download, extract, launch, configure Java, and handle networking yourself. | Often an upload or one-click workflow, but the panel must support the exact Forge pack. |
| File and configuration control | Full access to scripts, configs, logs, mods, and backups. | Usually available through a panel or file manager; permissions and tools vary. |
| Backups | You design, schedule, verify, and store them. | May include automated backups; confirm retention, download access, and restore behavior. |
| Network exposure | You manage firewall rules, router forwarding, and public addressing. | The provider normally supplies the endpoint, while you still secure accounts and permissions. |
| Cost | Uses existing hardware and electricity; ongoing cost depends on your setup. | Recurring price varies by plan and region; no current price is established here. |
| Geographic latency | Depends on the host’s physical location and internet connection. | Choose a region near most players and check the provider’s network policy. |
| Exact pack support | You can use the downloaded server archive directly. | Confirm support for Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge, and the server-pack files before paying. |
| Rollback | Simple if you retain archive and world copies; entirely your responsibility. | Convenient only if the host offers usable snapshots and a tested restore process. |
Update discipline that prevents avoidable outages
Keep the live server on one recorded release until you have tested a replacement. Before an update, copy the world, server configuration, and the original archive to storage that is not inside the live directory. Test the new files with a duplicate world, check that players can load and join, and note any configuration changes before scheduling downtime.
Never overwrite an old archive in place. A side-by-side directory makes it possible to return to the prior release if the new server fails, but the world itself may still be changed by a migration. That is why the backup must be made before the first launch of the new release, not after a problem appears.
Operational checklist
- Record Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2, Minecraft 1.20.1, and Forge.
- Download CMA Server Files 0.9.2 from the Files area.
- Extract into a clean, dedicated folder without deleting included files.
- Run the supplied start file from that folder and complete the first-run EULA step.
- Restart after initial file generation and wait for the ready message.
- Set the server name, world rules, operator permissions, whitelist, and backup routine.
- Install the identical client profile for every player.
- Test local and external connectivity before announcing the address.
- Keep the untouched archive, a separate world backup, and a written version record.
- For hosting panels, verify exact Forge-pack support, limits, region, backups, restore tools, and current terms.
Bottom line
The reliable setup path is the official server archive, not manual mod copying: pin the listed 0.9.2 Forge build for Minecraft 1.20.1, extract CMA Server Files 0.9.2 into its own directory, launch the included start file, and make every client match the same labels and files. Because the pack pages do not guarantee Java, RAM, CPU, or player-capacity figures, validate those details from the downloaded archive and your measured workload instead of relying on a generic specification.
