Decide the event scope before changing files. A process alert answers “Is the server running?” An in-game alert answers “What are players doing?” They use the same Discord destination but different senders.

V Rising does not provide a universal built-in Discord-notification switch in the cited server documentation. Discord is the destination; another service, script or mod must make the HTTP request.
What you need before configuring anything
- Administrator access to the Discord server, or permission to manage integrations in the target channel.
- Access to the V Rising hosting panel’s service settings, or shell/service access if the server is self-managed.
- For in-game events, a BepInEx installation and a webhook mod that explicitly supports the current V Rising build.
- Access to the server’s persistent-data directory so settings survive a game-server update.
- A network path that permits the server or host automation to make outbound HTTPS requests. If players cannot reach the server, also have the game and query-port forwarding and firewall rules available for inspection.
Create and protect the Discord incoming webhook
- Open the Discord channel that should receive alerts.
- Open the channel’s edit or integrations area and choose the option to create an incoming webhook.
- Set a recognizable webhook name and avatar if desired. These identify the sender in Discord and do not change which V Rising events are sent.
- Copy the generated webhook URL exactly. Avoid leading or trailing spaces when pasting it into a panel or configuration file.
- Save the channel integration, then store the URL in a password manager or another access-controlled location.
- Do not put the URL in a public repository, screenshot, support post or chat transcript. Anyone who obtains it can post into that channel.
If the URL is exposed, delete or regenerate the webhook in Discord immediately and replace the old value everywhere it was used. Deleting the stored URL from a hosting integration disables that integration, but it does not revoke a leaked URL by itself.

Configure lifecycle alerts in a hosting panel
Many managed hosts expose a Discord-messages option alongside restart and update controls. GamingDeluxe describes the intended behavior this way: “You can send notification messages when your server automatically restarts, automatically updates or starts and stops to a channel on your discord using webhooks, check below how.” The labels and save controls differ between providers, so use the panel’s current wording rather than assuming that every host has the same screen.
- Sign in to the hosting panel and open the specific V Rising service, not a general account-preferences page.
- Open the service settings or notification/integration area.
- Enable the Discord-messages option, or its equivalent lifecycle-notification switch.
- Paste the webhook URL into the field. Paste only the URL; do not add quotation marks, Markdown or a second URL.
- Execute, apply or save the change, depending on the panel’s control label. Wait for the panel to report that the operation succeeded.
- Trigger one low-risk event, such as a planned restart, and confirm that a message appears in the selected channel.
Use a dedicated status channel when possible. It keeps start, stop, restart and update traffic separate from player conversation and makes a missing alert easier to notice. If you no longer want lifecycle messages, remove the stored URL and save the setting again.

What a panel integration can and cannot do
A panel normally knows when its service starts, stops, restarts or updates, so those are the events it can report without modifying the game. It generally cannot see a player’s chat, login, logout, PvP kill or VBlood victory unless the provider supplies a separate game-event integration. For those events, use the BepInEx route below.
Connect a self-managed server or automation script
On a machine you administer, send the same webhook request from the automation that starts, stops, restarts or updates the server. Put the call after the action has been requested, and include the event name and result in the message so an alert distinguishes “restart requested” from “restart completed.”

A minimal JSON webhook call can be represented as:

- write a local timestamp and HTTP result to an administrative log;
- set a finite request timeout so a Discord outage cannot block the server-control process;
- retry transient failures without creating an alert storm;
- return a nonzero status or raise an operator-visible warning when delivery repeatedly fails;
- send separate messages for start, stop, restart and update rather than relying on an ambiguous “server changed” label.
Keep the webhook call independent from the game process where practical. If the server crashes before its shutdown hook runs, an external watchdog or host service is more likely to report the failure than code running inside the stopped process.

Send chat and world events with a BepInEx webhook mod
For player-facing events, install a BepInEx webhook mod that documents support for your current V Rising build. ScarletHooks advertises webhook destinations for chat, login/logout, PvP kills and VBlood defeats. VampireWebhook documents a Discord webhook URL and a generated BepInEx configuration file. These are third-party components, so their file names, configuration keys and supported game versions can change.
- Back up the server’s persistent data and record the current game and mod versions.
- Install BepInEx and the chosen webhook mod according to that mod’s own package instructions. Do not copy files from one mod’s directory into another mod’s directory.
- Start the server once so the mod can generate its configuration file, then stop the server cleanly.
- Open the generated configuration file and enter the Discord webhook URL in the key documented by the mod.
- Enable only the event classes you actually need: chat, login, logout, PvP kills and/or VBlood defeats. Every enabled class adds traffic and may expose more player activity in the channel.
- Restart the server and inspect the BepInEx or server log for configuration errors before asking players to test.
- Perform one controlled event, such as logging in with an administrator account, and confirm the expected Discord message.
Do not assume that a mod that worked on one V Rising build will continue to work after a game update. Recheck its compatibility and configuration documentation whenever the dedicated server or BepInEx version changes. If the mod generates a new file after an update, compare it with your saved settings instead of blindly overwriting the new file.

Keep V Rising configuration in the persistent Settings directory
V Rising separates infrastructure settings from gameplay rules. The two principal files are:

Place overrides in the persistent-data Settings directory used by the dedicated server. Editing a temporary installation copy can appear to work until an update replaces it. Back up the directory before changing JSON, preserve valid commas and quotation marks, and restart the server after applying a change.
Verify the network values separately
When the server is unreachable, or when a self-managed integration cannot communicate as expected, inspect Port, QueryPort and Address in the host settings. Then check the operating-system firewall and any router or provider forwarding rules. A Discord webhook does not repair an incorrectly forwarded game port, and a server that is locally reachable can still be inaccessible from the public internet.
- Port: confirm that the configured game port matches the port opened in the firewall and forwarded by the router or host.
- QueryPort: confirm that server-list or query traffic is forwarded separately when your setup requires it.
- Address: confirm that the bind address is appropriate for the host interface; an incorrect bind can make the process appear healthy locally while preventing outside connections.
Test the integration in a controlled order
- Test Discord itself. Post a harmless test through the webhook or trigger the panel’s documented test action, if one exists. Confirm the message lands in the intended channel.
- Test one lifecycle event. Schedule a restart during a maintenance window. Check both the Discord timestamp and the panel or service log.
- Test one BepInEx event. Log in with a test account or send a short message, depending on the enabled event. Verify that the mod-generated configuration is being read.
- Test failure visibility. Review what appears when the game process stops unexpectedly. A panel or external watchdog may report this even when an in-process mod cannot.
- Test after a routine update. Recheck the panel setting, generated mod configuration and compatibility notes before reopening the server to the community.
Record the channel, enabled event classes, webhook owner and last compatibility check in your server runbook. This avoids rotating a webhook or updating a mod without telling the next administrator where the dependency lives.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect alerts
No Discord message arrives
- Regenerate the webhook in Discord and paste the new URL without extra spaces.
- Confirm that the target channel still exists and that the webhook was not deleted or moved.
- Check the hosting panel’s execution or save result; a field can appear populated even when an operation was not applied.
- For a script, inspect the HTTP status, timeout and local log rather than assuming the command ran.
- For a mod, inspect BepInEx startup output for a malformed URL, missing dependency or unsupported game build.
Alerts stopped after a game or host update
- Reopen the panel integration and verify that the webhook value and enable switch survived the update.
- Check whether the mod supports the new V Rising build and whether its generated configuration keys changed.
- Compare the current persistent Settings directory with your backup; do not restore an old file wholesale if the update introduced required settings.
The server works locally but not externally
- Verify
Port,QueryPortandAddressinServerHostSettings.json. - Verify Windows or Linux firewall rules, provider security groups and router forwarding.
- Test from a network outside the host’s local network. Local success alone does not prove public reachability.
The channel is flooded or receives duplicates
- Use a dedicated status channel for lifecycle messages and a separate activity channel for player events.
- Disable event classes the community does not need, especially high-volume chat or login/logout notifications.
- Make sure both a panel integration and a script are not reporting the same restart.
- Review retry logic so a delayed Discord response does not produce several copies of one alert.

Security and maintenance practices
- Limit Discord permissions on the destination channel so webhook posts cannot be mistaken for administrator actions.
- Keep the URL out of public repositories, screenshots, issue reports and pasted configuration examples.
- Rotate the webhook immediately after exposure and update every panel, script and mod configuration that used it.
- Use event-specific wording so operators can distinguish a planned update from an unexpected stop.
- Review enabled event classes after each mod update; defaults can change and create unexpected noise.
- Keep backups of the persistent Settings directory and the mod configuration, but protect backups as carefully as the live webhook.
The practical setup is therefore layered: use the host panel or an external service for process lifecycle, a compatible BepInEx mod for in-game activity, and the persistent V Rising Settings directory plus correct firewall rules to keep the server stable through updates.
