What Christmas Holidays includes
Christmas Holidays is a lightweight, adventure-oriented Minecraft Java Edition modpack built around a seasonal multiplayer experience. Its content includes Christmas decorations, snowy biomes, holiday food, quests, additional enemies, and new structures. The Modrinth project is tagged Adventure, Multiplayer, Quests, and Lightweight, and lists the pack as compatible with both client and server installations.
The compatibility label does not mean every distribution contains the same files. The project pages specifically distinguish the Modrinth and CurseForge versions, so choose the distribution according to what you need from the pack.

Why the CurseForge distribution is the safer choice for a full server
The project says the CurseForge distribution contains the fullest experience. According to the Modrinth listing, some content and optimization mods cannot be added there, FTB Quests cannot be included, and server packs cannot be uploaded. If quests, the complete content set, or a ready-made dedicated-server bundle matter to your group, install the CurseForge release on clients and download the official server pack from CurseForge.
When Modrinth can still be useful
Modrinth can be suitable for a client installation when you understand that its project files are not the complete CurseForge bundle. Do not assume that a Modrinth client download can be used as the dedicated-server archive. For a server, obtain the matching server-pack ZIP published through the official CurseForge project.

The memory figures are recommendations from the project FAQ, not independent benchmark results. Treat 8 GB as a starting allocation rather than a guarantee for a particular number of players, view distance, or additional server mods.
Prepare the client and server
Use the same Minecraft release everywhere
Install Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 before adding the pack. The client and the dedicated server must both use the pack’s 1.20.1 Forge environment. A client running another Minecraft release, or a server started with a different loader family, will not be a compatible installation even if the pack name is correct.

Choose the complete distribution before you create a world
For a group that wants quests and the broadest content set, select the CurseForge distribution from the beginning. Switching a live world between distributions can change the available registry entries, quests, recipes, or optimization components. Keep a copy of the world before changing distributions or pack versions.
Set aside memory before troubleshooting
Reserve at least 8 GB for a dedicated server. On a client, allocate about 6 GB only when the symptoms justify it—such as an extended loading screen or low frame rates. More allocated memory is not automatically better; leave enough physical memory for the operating system and any launcher or server-management tools running alongside Minecraft.
Install the client
- Install Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1. Confirm that the launcher can start the unmodified 1.20.1 profile before installing mods.
- Install the Forge profile required by Christmas Holidays. The project identifies Forge as its loader. Select the Forge profile for Minecraft 1.20.1 rather than a vanilla, Fabric, or other-loader profile.
- Import or install the CurseForge pack. Use the CurseForge distribution when you need the complete content set and FTB Quests. Allow the launcher or mod manager to place the pack’s files in its managed instance.
- Set client memory to approximately 6144 MB if necessary. The project FAQ gives this figure for loading and FPS problems. Test the pack after changing memory instead of raising the allocation repeatedly.
- Launch once before joining a server. A first launch creates configuration files and allows Forge to complete its normal setup. Close the game cleanly before changing files by hand.
Keep the client installation separate from any test instance. A duplicate instance gives you a way to check a new pack version or a configuration change without risking the installation used by your group.
Download and deploy the official server pack
Find the correct archive
Use the official CurseForge server-pack page for Christmas Holidays. The cited file is a 666.1 MB ZIP for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, uploaded December 22, 2025. Check the Minecraft and loader labels on the file page before downloading; do not substitute a client-only download or an archive for another Minecraft version.

Extract into a clean server directory
- Create a new, dedicated folder for the Christmas Holidays server. Keeping it separate from other modpacks prevents old mods and configuration files from being mixed into the installation.
- Extract the official ZIP into that folder, preserving its directory structure. Do not place the ZIP itself in a directory that already contains another pack.
- Assign at least 8 GB of RAM to the server process through your server software or hosting control panel. The project FAQ recommends a minimum of 8 GB and notes that larger player counts may require more.
- Start the server once. The first run generates the normal server files and may stop while waiting for the Minecraft EULA to be accepted, as required by the server software.
- Accept the EULA through the server software’s normal process, then start the server again. The project pages do not publish a project-specific EULA walkthrough, so follow the instructions presented by the Forge server package or your host rather than applying an unrelated command guide.
- Stop the server cleanly before editing files. Never change the Snowy configuration while the server is writing it. A clean stop reduces the chance of a partial or overwritten configuration.
The exact launcher script and Java command can differ between operating systems and hosting panels. Use the files included with the official archive and the instructions supplied by the platform running the server; the important compatibility points are Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge, the matching server pack, and adequate memory.
Configure snowfall with the Snowy mod
What changed in version 3.5.0
The project FAQ says continuous snow was disabled from version 3.5.0. Therefore, a newly installed or updated server may not snow constantly even though snowy biomes and Christmas content are present. This is a configuration choice, not evidence that the pack or Forge installation failed.

Change the setting safely
- Stop the server. Make the change only while no server process is writing the files.
- Back up the server directory or at least its configuration and world files. This gives you a recovery point if an edit prevents startup or produces an unwanted weather pattern.
- Open the server’s
configfolder, then thesnowyfolder. The Snowy mod stores the relevant configuration there. - Adjust the continuous-snow setting using the option exposed by that configuration. Preserve the file’s syntax and do not delete unrelated settings.
- Save the file and restart the server. Weather behavior is evaluated after the server loads the configuration, so a running server will not necessarily reflect an edit made on disk.
- Have every player use the matching pack version. The project FAQ advises keeping clients synchronized when configuration changes are made.
If the setting is missing, first confirm that the server is running the expected Christmas Holidays version and that the Snowy mod is present in the official server pack. Do not copy a configuration from an unrelated pack: mod versions can use different keys and file formats.
Keep clients and the server synchronized
Every player should install the same Christmas Holidays release as the server, including the same Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge environment. A mismatch can appear as a failed connection, missing registry entries, absent quests, or a world that loads differently for different players.

- Record the pack version and the date of the server-pack download before inviting players.
- Distribute the same source and distribution to every client; do not mix a Modrinth client with a CurseForge installation when the files differ.
- After changing Snowy settings, ask players to restart their clients so they are not testing against stale files.
- Back up the world before updating the pack or changing major configuration files.
- Test a new version with a copy of the world before applying it to the live server.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
The server will not start
Verify the three fundamentals first: the server is using Minecraft 1.20.1, the Forge loader is installed, and the extracted files came from the official 1.20.1 server-pack ZIP. Then check that the EULA step has been completed through the server software’s normal workflow. If the installation directory contains files from another modpack, restore the clean directory or extract the archive again into a new one.
Players get a mod or registry mismatch
Compare the server’s pack version with each player’s client. A player using a different distribution, an older version, or a manually altered mod list can fail even when both installations say “Christmas Holidays.” Reinstall from the same distribution and remove local additions before testing again.
The game remains on the loading screen or has low FPS
Set the client allocation to about 6 GB (6144 MB), the amount recommended by the project FAQ for these symptoms. If the problem persists, return to a clean client instance and confirm that it uses the intended 1.20.1 Forge profile. Avoid treating the client recommendation as a server requirement: the dedicated server minimum is 8 GB.
The server lags with several players
The project’s 8 GB figure is a minimum recommendation, and the FAQ warns that larger player counts may require more. Increase resources only after confirming that the server is using the correct pack and that no unnecessary files are loading. A managed host’s monitoring tools can help identify whether memory is the limiting resource, but the project pages do not provide independent player-capacity benchmarks.

It does not snow continuously
Check the Snowy configuration in config → snowy. Continuous snowfall was disabled beginning with version 3.5.0, so the behavior may be the default. Stop the server, make a backup, change the setting, restart, and keep client versions aligned.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Self-hosting gives you control over the files and backups but leaves installation, uptime, memory allocation, and network administration to you. A managed Minecraft host can provide a control panel and support, which is useful when several friends need access without maintaining a server computer.

Compare hosts on the things this pack needs
- Memory allocation: confirm that the plan provides at least 8 GB, with a practical upgrade path for a larger group.
- Forge 1.20.1 support: verify that the host can run the required loader rather than only vanilla or another mod-loader family.
- Server-pack installation: look for a one-click import or a file manager that accepts the official CurseForge ZIP.
- Backups: check whether backups are automatic, how many are retained, and whether you can restore a world before a pack update.
- Player capacity: ask how the host measures limits and whether CPU performance changes as players, structures, and loaded chunks increase.
- Support quality: confirm that support handles Forge modpack issues and not only billing or vanilla servers.
- Price and renewal terms: compare the recurring cost, upgrade price, storage, and any setup fee rather than relying on a first-month promotion.
The project owner says Christmas Holidays works with Bisect Hosting and advertises a 25% code. Treat that as a project-owner promotion, not an independent performance test: confirm that the code, region, landing page, and terms are current before purchase.
