You may also see “ChtChangjieDS.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” These are common reported Windows loader messages, not proof that a particular game or application installed the file.

chtchangjieds.dll, normally displayed as ChtChangjieDS.dll, is a Windows component for Microsoft Changjie, a Traditional Chinese input method. Do not download the DLL from a random website or copy it into an application folder. First restore the Traditional Chinese language or keyboard component, then repair Windows with DISM and SFC. That process lets Windows obtain the correct file for the installed edition and architecture.
Why ChtChangjieDS.dll errors appear
The error usually means Windows or an application cannot load the Changjie input component. Common causes include:
- Damaged or missing Windows component files
- The Traditional Chinese language pack or Changjie keyboard being removed
- An incomplete Windows update
- Antivirus quarantine
- Corruption in an older Windows installation
- A file with the wrong architecture or version
- Underlying disk or Windows servicing problems
A third-party file index places the legitimate component under a path similar to:
C:WindowsSystem32InputMethodCHTChtChangjieDS.DLL
This is an example path, not a guarantee for every Windows release. Indexed records also show different Windows builds and architectures, so one copied DLL cannot safely represent every installation.
Fix 1: Restore Microsoft Changjie from Windows Settings
This is the best first fix because it restores the language component instead of replacing one file manually.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Open Language & region.
- Find the relevant Chinese (Traditional) language.
- Select the … button beside it.
- Choose Language options.
- Under Keyboards, check whether Microsoft Changjie is listed.
- If it is missing, select Add a keyboard and choose Microsoft Changjie.
- Restart Windows and test the application or input method again.
If the keyboard cannot be added or the component appears damaged:
- Return to Language & region.
- Select the … button beside the Chinese Traditional language.
- Choose Remove.
- Restart the computer.
- Select Add a language.
- Add the appropriate Chinese Traditional language again.
- Open its Language options and add Microsoft Changjie.
Windows normally delivers language packs through Windows Update. If the installation does not complete, open Settings > Windows Update, install pending updates, restart, and repeat the language installation.

Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Time & Language.
- Choose Language.
- Select the Chinese Traditional language.
- Click Options.
- Under Keyboards, choose Add a keyboard.
- Select Microsoft Changjie.
- Restart Windows.
If Changjie is not available, remove the Chinese Traditional language, restart, and add it again through Add a language.
How to tell whether this worked
Press Windows key + Space and select the Traditional Chinese input method. Type in a text box, then launch the program that reported the error. If the error returns, continue with the Windows file repair steps below.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Use this fix when Changjie cannot be installed, the DLL is still missing, or Windows reports broader system-file problems.
- Install all pending Windows updates.
- Restart the computer.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows when both commands finish.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, which SFC may need as a source for replacing damaged system files. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test Changjie again. If it says it could not repair some files, run DISM once more after installing updates, then repeat sfc /scannow.

If DISM says that source files could not be found, use a matching Windows installation source rather than a downloaded DLL:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:<matching-source> /LimitAccess
The source must closely match the installed Windows edition and build. An unsuitable source can fail or leave the component store inconsistent.

Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine a legitimate system component after a false positive or after detecting a modified copy.

- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Privacy & security on Windows 11, or Update & Security on Windows 10.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
ChtChangjieDS.dll. - Check the reported file path and detection details before taking action.
Only restore the item if all of the following are true:
- The original path is an appropriate Windows input-method directory.
- The file is the Microsoft component you expect.
- Its digital signature identifies Microsoft as the signer.
- A current full or offline scan does not find additional threats.
Do not create a blanket antivirus exclusion just to suppress the message. If Windows Security repeatedly flags the file, leave it quarantined, update security definitions, and run a full or offline scan. Restoring a genuinely altered file can expose the system to further problems.
After quarantine is resolved, repeat the language-component repair and DISM/SFC steps. Windows servicing is safer than manually copying the quarantined file.
Fix 4: Verify the file instead of replacing it
If the file exists but will not load, check its identity before assuming it is missing.

- Right-click
ChtChangjieDS.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports a valid Microsoft signature.
- Check the Details tab for the file description and version information.
A legitimate file should normally be in the Windows input-method area and signed by Microsoft. Treat a copy found in a temporary folder, an application directory, or an unrelated location as suspicious until verified.
Do not replace a 64-bit system component with an indexed 32-bit copy, or the reverse. The System32 name is also counterintuitive: on 64-bit Windows it generally contains 64-bit system binaries, while 32-bit system files are commonly associated with SysWOW64. Windows servicing selects the appropriate architecture automatically.
Fix 5: Install Windows updates completely
A failed or incomplete update can leave language components out of sync.

- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Check Windows Update again until no pending update remains.
- Reinstall Microsoft Changjie through the language options.
- Run DISM followed by SFC if the error continues.
If Windows Update itself fails, use Microsoft’s Windows Update troubleshooting tools and repair guidance rather than searching for an individual DLL.
Fix 6: Update drivers only when input hardware is also failing
A driver is not the usual cause of a missing Changjie component. If the DLL error occurs alongside a malfunctioning keyboard, language-switch hotkey, or input device, inspect the related device.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Right-click the affected keyboard.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the keyboard.
Do not remove random devices or install unofficial driver packages. Do not run this merely because the filename ends in .dll:
regsvr32 ChtChangjieDS.dll
Changjie is an input-method component, not a general-purpose application runtime DLL. A third-party record shows registration-related exports in one particular build, but Microsoft does not document manually registering this file as the normal repair procedure. Registration can create incorrect input-method settings or produce a new error.
Restore the language component and repair Windows instead. Only use a registration command if Microsoft support gives you a build-specific instruction for your installation.
Why manual DLL downloads are unsafe
Downloading chtchangjieds.dll from an unverified DLL site can give you:
- An unsigned or tampered file
- The wrong Windows build
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- A file with missing dependencies
- A copy that hides the original Windows corruption without repairing it
Copying it into System32, SysWOW64, an application folder, or a game directory may make one loader message disappear while leaving the Windows IME broken. The safe sources are Windows Settings, Windows Update, DISM, SFC, and official Windows installation media that matches your system.

There is no verified Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable or DirectX package associated with this DLL, so reinstalling either runtime is not the correct general fix.

If the file is still present but fails to load, or DISM and SFC repeatedly fail:
- Review the SFC and DISM results for recurring corruption.
- Check the system drive for errors and confirm that it has sufficient free space.
- Use System Restore if a suitable restore point exists.
- Back up personal files.
- Perform a supported Windows repair installation if system corruption continues.
- If only one application displays the error, repair or reinstall that application from its official installer after repairing Windows input components.
A system-wide Changjie failure points to Windows language or component servicing. An error limited to one program may also indicate that the program needs repair, but installing a random copy of the DLL is still not the safe solution.
FAQ
Is chtchangjieds.dll malware?
The legitimate file is a Microsoft Windows Traditional Chinese IME component. A copy outside the expected Windows input-method directory, an invalid signature, or an antivirus detection requires investigation. The filename alone does not prove that a file is safe.
What is Changjie?
Changjie is a Traditional Chinese input method. Microsoft provides it with other Traditional Chinese input methods, including Bopomofo and Quick.

Do I need Changjie if I never use it?
No. If you do not use Changjie, removing and re-adding the Traditional Chinese keyboard may be sufficient. If no Traditional Chinese input is needed, you can remove that language component from Windows Settings.
Will these steps work on both Windows 10 and Windows 11?
Yes. The Settings names differ slightly: Windows 11 uses Time & language > Language & region, while Windows 10 uses Time & Language > Language. DISM and SFC commands apply to both systems.
Should I install a Visual C++ package?
Not for this file specifically. No verified evidence associates ChtChangjieDS.dll with Visual C++ Redistributable or DirectX. Restore the Windows language component and repair Windows first.
