fbios.dll is an application DLL used by GIGABYTE motherboard software, especially @BIOS, APP Center, and related BIOS-update components. It is not a Windows system file, so the safest fix is to reinstall the matching GIGABYTE utility rather than download the DLL separately.
If you only need to update the motherboard BIOS, stop using the Windows utility and use the board’s built-in Q-Flash or Q-Flash Plus feature if your model supports it.

Fix fbios.dll errors in order
1. Identify the exact GIGABYTE utility
Time needed: 5 minutes
The error may have appeared after opening APP Center, @BIOS, GIGABYTE Control Center, or an older utility bundled with the motherboard. Common messages include:
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

The wording matters:
- Missing or cannot find usually indicates that the utility installation is incomplete, damaged, or removed.
- Initialization routine failed, including error
0x8007045A, can mean that the file exists but the application and its supporting components do not work together. - Not designed to run on Windows can indicate a damaged file, an incompatible package, or a wrong build.
To identify the affected program:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps and look for APP Center, GIGABYTE Control Center, or another GIGABYTE entry.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for
GIGABYTE,APP Center, or@BIOS. - Note the exact application name before removing anything.
Also check the error window’s installation path. A path under a GIGABYTE application folder supports the conclusion that the file belongs to that utility. Do not assume every GIGABYTE motherboard uses the same package.

2. Confirm the motherboard model and revision
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
The replacement utility must match the exact motherboard model and hardware revision. A package for a similar-looking board can install the wrong files or fail during startup.
Find the model and revision using one of these methods:
- Shut down the computer and inspect the text printed directly on the motherboard.
- Enter the firmware setup using the key shown during startup.
- In Windows, press Windows + R, type
msinfo32, and press Enter. - Check System Model in the System Information window.
Record the full model name and revision. If the board shows a revision number, include it when choosing downloads. Do not use a package intended for a GIGABYTE laptop, a different board family, or another revision.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →3. Uninstall and reinstall the official GIGABYTE utility
Time needed: 15–25 minutes
This is the most likely solution for a missing or unloadable fbios.dll.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the affected GIGABYTE utility.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows, even if the wizard does not request it.
- Open the exact motherboard support page on GIGABYTE’s official website.
- Select Support → Utility.
- Download the APP Center,
@BIOS, GIGABYTE Control Center, or other utility listed for that board. - If GIGABYTE’s instructions require APP Center before
@BIOS, install APP Center first. - Right-click the downloaded ZIP file, choose Extract All, and extract it to a temporary folder.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation and restart Windows again.
Do not copy fbios.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. The file normally belongs inside the GIGABYTE application directory, and its exact location varies by utility generation and motherboard model.
Test the result by opening the same GIGABYTE utility that previously showed the error. If it launches normally, the repair worked. If the same error returns, remove the utility again and verify that the download was selected for the correct board revision and Windows-compatible package.

4. Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Windows Security or another antivirus product may have removed a file from an otherwise valid installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for a recent detection involving
fbios.dllor the GIGABYTE installation folder. - Expand the detection and inspect its path, threat name, and action.
If the file came from the official GIGABYTE installer, verify the installer’s source and digital signature before allowing anything. Do not restore a file merely because its name matches the error. Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely malicious file can expose the system again.
The safer approach is usually to reinstall the official utility after confirming that the installer is not being blocked. If antivirus repeatedly removes the file, leave it quarantined and contact GIGABYTE support with the detection name rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
5. Use Q-Flash instead of the Windows utility
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
If your only goal is a BIOS update, you may not need APP Center or @BIOS at all. Q-Flash operates from the motherboard firmware instead of depending on a Windows DLL. Q-Flash or Q-Flash Plus availability depends on the specific board.
Before proceeding:
- Confirm the exact motherboard model and hardware revision.
- Read the BIOS-update instructions for that board.
- Download only the BIOS file listed for that model and revision.
- Use a USB drive and prepare it exactly as GIGABYTE’s instructions specify.
- Restart the computer and enter firmware setup.
- Open the board’s Q-Flash option.
- Select the correct BIOS file and confirm the update.
- Do not shut down the computer, reset it, or remove power during the process.
Some boards provide Q-Flash Plus, which can update firmware through a dedicated motherboard procedure. Follow the board-specific instructions rather than assuming that every model uses the same button, USB port, filename, or preparation steps.
If the utility error began after an interrupted BIOS update, do not repeatedly retry a Windows-based flash. Confirm the board revision and use the documented recovery method. If the system behaves abnormally after the interruption, contact GIGABYTE support.

6. Repair Windows components only if Windows has wider problems
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
fbios.dll is not normally repaired by Windows Update, DISM, or SFC because it is a third-party application file. Use these commands when other Windows programs also show corruption or missing-system-file symptoms.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the GIGABYTE utility again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. A successful scan means Windows protected components were checked or repaired; it does not guarantee that the GIGABYTE DLL was recreated.
If repeatedly hunting through repair commands is taking longer than checking the installation manually, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it found; repairs are performed by the full version, but reinstalling the GIGABYTE utility remains the definitive fix for this application DLL.
Do not enable optional Windows Features, install DirectX, or reinstall Visual C++ simply because fbios.dll is missing. Those components are not established as the normal source of this file.
7. Check drivers only when the motherboard utility reports a broader hardware problem
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
A motherboard utility can interact with chipset and system hardware, but a missing fbios.dll is primarily an application-installation problem. Driver work is secondary unless Device Manager shows a separate fault.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand System devices.
- Look for a device with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and choose Properties.
- Read the error under Device status.
- Select Driver → Update Driver → Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver changes.
Do not replace drivers at random, and do not use a driver package for another motherboard model. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify the specific versions involved; the free scan shows the findings, while driver installation is handled by the full version. This is optional and does not replace reinstalling the GIGABYTE program that owns fbios.dll.
What not to do
Do not download a standalone DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong build, or the wrong architecture. Even a clean file may not match the installed APP Center or `@BIOS version and therefore may not fix the error.
Use the official GIGABYTE motherboard support page and its Utility section instead. The exact replacement package varies by board generation.

Do not copy the file to System32
An application DLL should normally remain beside the application that calls it. Copying it into a Windows directory can create conflicts and does not repair the missing application files, dependencies, or version mismatch.
Do not use registry cleaners
Registry cleaners cannot reliably reconstruct a missing private application DLL. They can also remove valid application settings and make later troubleshooting harder.
Do not run regsvr32 as a generic repair
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal missing-DLL repair command, and a private GIGABYTE runtime DLL may not support registration. Running it against fbios.dll is unlikely to solve this problem.

Likely causes of the error
| Likely cause | Appropriate response |
|---|---|
| Incomplete or outdated utility installation | Uninstall and reinstall the matching package |
APP Center and @BIOS version mismatch |
Reinstall the supported pair in GIGABYTE’s stated order |
| Antivirus quarantine | Inspect Protection history, then reinstall from the official source |
| Wrong board model or revision | Download from the exact motherboard support page |
| Damaged Windows components | Run DISM, then SFC, if other programs are also failing |
| Obsolete utility | Use a newer supported utility or Q-Flash |
| Interrupted update | Stop retrying the Windows flash and follow the recovery method |
The exact file version, size, hash, bitness, and universal installation path are not established consistently. Do not choose a 32-bit or 64-bit replacement based only on whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit. The relevant architecture is the application calling the DLL, and the safest match comes from the official utility installer.
