Firaxis previewed two Civilization VII updates for March 2025: version 1.1.0, planned for March 4, and version 1.1.1, planned for March 25. The announcements outlined changes to culture victories, AI, user interface, multiplayer and map starts, among other features. They are previews, not a verified record of everything that appeared in the final patches.
What was the difference between updates 1.1.0 and 1.1.1?
| Update | Planned date in Firaxis’s February 27, 2025 check-in | Announced focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1.1.0 | March 4, 2025 | UI adjustments, culture-victory changes, religion and naval combat changes, memento balance, army disbanding, and account and multiplayer fixes. |
| 1.1.1 | March 25, 2025; timing was subject to change | AI scouting and settlement, Quick Move, naming customization, map-start options, restart, and a new natural wonder. |
These dates and feature lists come from Firaxis’s February 2025 update check-in. They describe planned updates; the available announcement does not establish the complete final patch notes or confirm every previewed feature’s final implementation.
What did Firaxis preview for Civilization VII update 1.1.0?
Firaxis planned update 1.1.0 for March 4, 2025. Its preview covered several systems rather than a single major addition:
- Free content: the Bermuda Triangle natural wonder.
- Culture: substantial changes to the Modern Age Culture Legacy Path and victory, with the stated aim of making AI culture victories more likely.
- Religion: the ability to convert Holy Cities in the Exploration Age.
- Naval combat: naval units would be able to attack coastal independent powers.
- Usability and balance: further UI adjustments, memento balance changes, and an improved army-disband action.
- Online play and accounts: fixes for reported 2K account, multiplayer, and friend-add issues.
Firaxis also said consoles would receive updates corresponding to PC patches 1.0.1 patches 1, 2, and 3. The check-in cautioned that Nintendo Switch timing could differ, so it did not establish identical delivery timing across platforms.

What was announced for update 1.1.1?
The February check-in previewed 1.1.1 for March 25, 2025, while noting that the timing could change. The listed features included:
- Further UI improvements.
- AI scouting and settlement improvements, including less aggressive AI settlement.
- Quick Move.
- Options to customize commander and city names.
- A renamed Balanced Start option, intended to be the multiplayer default, and a new Standard Start with less predictable terrain.
- A restart option to reroll map generation.
- The free Mount Everest natural wonder.
The check-in also associated this update with the paid Crossroads of the World Collection Part 2, which was to include leader Simón Bolívar and the Bulgaria and Nepal civilizations. That paid collection was separate from the free update features.

Which other features did Firaxis say were priorities?
In an earlier message about the game’s roadmap, Firaxis called UI improvements its top priority and said it would prioritize several community requests. Those were priorities for upcoming free updates, not a promise that the features would arrive in either March patch:
- Cooperative multiplayer teams.
- Full multiplayer player counts in all three Ages, through changes to Distant Lands.
- The ability to choose a starting and ending Age for one- or two-Age games.
- More map types.
- Customizable city and religion names.
- Hotseat multiplayer.
The roadmap message also described update 1.1.0 as including UI quality-of-life adjustments, ongoing AI balance and improvement, diplomacy and crisis adjustments, and bug fixes. It said exact timing for the broader requested features was still being worked out. Firaxis wrote: “We will support Civilization VII for years to come, and your feedback remains critical in helping us grow and build the future of Civ.”

Are these the final patch notes?
No. The February update check-in is a preview, not a complete verified record of the final 1.1.0 and 1.1.1 changes. It supports describing what Firaxis announced and when it planned to release the updates, but it does not establish which preview items ultimately shipped or provide a full list of platform-specific differences. The longer-term roadmap requests likewise should not be treated as features delivered in these March updates.
