What did the gameplay reveal show?
Empires change across Ages
The central gameplay change is a progression through distinct Ages of human history. Each Age has its own civilizations, resources, explorable land and gameplay systems. At the start of a new Age, players reshape their empire by choosing from civilizations available in that period. The choices can be influenced by accomplishments in the preceding Age, so an empire develops over the course of a campaign rather than relying on one civilization to represent it throughout history.
Leaders can be chosen separately
Players can select a leader independently of their civilization and combine the two sets of abilities and bonuses. Leaders have distinct abilities, and their attributes can be customized through play.
