But the best Gradient Skill depends on the fight—some excel at single-target damage or breaking, while others heal, revive, shield, or weaken enemies.

How to choose a Gradient Skill
Compare each option by its charge cost and the time needed to build that charge, whether it hits one target or several, its damage and break potential, and any support or setup it provides. These are practical comparison points, not an official scoring system.
The order below follows Patch Crazy’s guide. Its descriptions and numerical effects are that guide’s claims; they are not independently confirmed by a complete official skill database.

Gommage (Maelle)
The guide’s top pick is a late-game attack that eliminates weaker enemies, deals substantial Void damage to those remaining, and puts Maelle into Virtuose Stance for follow-up attacks. Its charge cost and long charge time can be wasted when ordinary enemies are already close to defeat.

Striker (Verso)
This two-charge single-target attack deals high damage and can break an enemy, according to the guide. It is especially appealing after Verso has built up to A or S Perfection rank, making it a setup-dependent choice rather than an automatic opener.

Mighty Strike (Monoco)
The guide describes a one-charge single-target attack whose damage follows Monoco’s weapon element and doubles against a stunned enemy. It also changes him to Almighty Mask on the Bestial Wheel, adding a tactical setup benefit alongside the hit.

Angel’s Eyes (Verso)
The guide says this skill lands eight physical hits that build Perfection and grants Aureole, a safeguard that revives Verso if he is knocked out. Its appeal combines damage, rank-building, and added survivability.

This two-level Gradient Skill hits one target with three Dark attacks, then applies Powerless, Defenceless, and Slow for three turns; the guide also says it can break the target. Its debuffs make it a candidate for weakening a durable enemy.

Phoenix Flame (Maelle)
As described in the guide, Phoenix Flame applies ten Burn stacks and revives fallen allies with 50–70% health. That recovery can be especially valuable when Maelle is the last party member standing. Treat the revival range as the guide’s reported figure, not an officially verified value.

Sanctuary (Monoco)
The guide says Sanctuary grants the party two shield layers and Regen for three turns. It is a defensive option, particularly useful for players who can parry effectively and want added protection while doing so.
Why the ranking can change by fight
The ten options cover distinct jobs: Gommage, Striker, and Mighty Strike focus on damage or breaks; Shadow Bringer and Sky Break provide multi-target coverage; Tree of Life restores and cleanses; Angel’s Eyes adds a revival safeguard; Doom weakens a priority target; Phoenix Flame can recover fallen allies; and Sanctuary supports the party defensively. A lower-ranked skill may be the better pick when its job matches the encounter or your team’s needs.
Expedition 33 combines turn-based decisions with real-time dodges, parries, counters, attack rhythms, and free-aim weak-point targeting. A Gradient Skill is therefore one part of a broader build and combat plan, rather than a standalone measure of a character’s strength. The official overview describes the game’s combat and build flexibility.

Patch Crazy published its ranking on May 5, 2025. The official Patch 1.4.0 notes, dated July 30, 2025, include a fix to Lune’s Thermal Transfer, but they do not provide a complete Gradient Skills balance audit. They therefore do not establish that every skill effect or relative ranking here remains unchanged in the latest game version.
