The record increased after launch. SteamDB’s historical chart records an all-time peak of 145,063 concurrent players on May 4, 2025. The game launched on Steam on April 24, 2025, so this was a later high, not the first-weekend figure.
These numbers describe Steam activity only. They do not include PlayStation or Xbox activity, and Steam concurrency cannot be directly compared with sales totals or a cross-platform player count.

What does the comparison with a 2024 RPG GOTY contender mean?
The available first-weekend comparison does not identify a 2024 RPG Game of the Year contender. GameSpot’s April 2025 report compared Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 with the concurrent launch of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, a 2025 release. GameSpot, citing SteamDB, reported that Oblivion Remastered reached 216,784 concurrent Steam players on April 27, 2025.
That is a comparison between Steam concurrency peaks around two 2025 launches—not evidence that Clair Obscur edged out a 2024 award contender. The 121,422 first-weekend figure is lower than the reported Oblivion Remastered peak, and the games’ peaks occurred on different dates.

How do Steam player peaks compare with sales?
They measure different things. A Steam peak counts simultaneous users on that storefront; a sales milestone counts units sold over a period and may cover multiple platforms. Game Pass access adds another distinction because players can play without buying a copy.

Sandfall clarified the scope of the one-million milestone in a follow-up post quoted by GameSpot: “This number includes units shipped to retailers, and does not encompass our awesome Game Pass players.” The qualification matters: that sales figure is not a count of all people who had access to the game.
