To beat Serpenphare in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, bring Lightning damage and a way to clear its repeated shields: Lune’s Tremor or Maelle’s Breaking Rules are the clearest counters reported by the Expedition 33 Wiki guide. Save a low-cost action for turns when the boss drains your AP, and reach the encounter with Esquie’s flight ability.
Where to find Serpenphare
The Expedition 33 Wiki places Serpenphare on the Continent, southeast of the Boat Graveyard and in the ocean just north of the Endless Tower. You need Esquie’s flight ability to reach it. The guide also notes that Serpenphare may be visible overhead in Flying Waters before you can fight it. Because the game has no in-game coordinates or minimap, use those landmarks and nearby Expedition Flags to navigate.

What makes the fight difficult
AP drain can disrupt your turn
Serpenphare absorbs the party’s AP. That can leave characters short of resources while the boss continues acting, so a plan that depends on spending all your AP each turn can stall.

Repeated shields absorb damage
The guide reports that Serpenphare repeatedly applies shields, with as many as nine instances. While those shields remain, they absorb incoming damage. Clearing them is more useful than simply pouring attacks into the stack.
Do not build around weak-point shots
The guide says Serpenphare has no available weak spot. Instead, target its listed elemental weakness: Lightning. Ice and Fire are listed as resistances.

How to beat Serpenphare
- Bring Lightning attacks. Lightning is the listed weakness. Avoid relying on Ice or Fire damage, which the guide lists as resisted.
- Clear the shields early. Lune’s Tremor is reported to remove all shields. Maelle’s Breaking Rules is another reported option; it removes shields, deals damage, and restores AP for each shield removed.
- Use multi-hit attacks if you lack a shield remover. The guide names Lune’s Elemental Genesis and Verso’s Steeled Strike as alternatives. It reports that Steeled Strike hits 13 times, while Elemental Genesis has a chance to inflict Lightning. These are not presented as equivalent to clearing the whole stack, and no comparative damage test is provided.
- Keep a cheap action available. Save enough flexibility to use a reliable low-cost move after AP is drained, rather than leaving a character unable to contribute.
- Skip weak-point targeting. Since the guide reports no available weak spot, do not spend turns trying to line up free-aim weak-point shots.
Builds, levels, difficulty settings, and patches may change how the encounter plays. The skill effects and quantities above are reported by the community guide, not established as universal outcomes for every setup.

Bandai Namco describes Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a turn-based RPG with real-time mechanics, including dodging, parrying, countering, combo rhythms, and weak-point targeting.
