Five companions—Esquie, Lune, Maelle, Monoco, and Sciel—have seven ranks apiece; some of their final ranks require Act 3 progress, personal quests, or careful dialogue choices.
This guide covers the route and rewards reported by Gamer Guides, with a specific caveat where that guide conflicts with PCGamesN. Unlock timings below are guide-reported progress points, not an official in-game schedule.

How companion relationships advance
Verso joins at the end of Act 1, but relationship conversations become available after the Forgotten Battlefield is cleared. Return to camp, speak to companions with an available conversation, and accept the “spend time” prompt when it appears. The practical approach is to revisit camp after story dungeons and major story events rather than waiting until the end of the game. Gamer Guides’ relationship guide reports that the five listed companions can reach rank 7, but none can be maxed before Act 3 begins.
Not every increase comes from a conversation alone. Monoco’s route includes a duel, and several Act 3 rank 6 routes involve personal quests or fights. Gamer Guides recommends triggering an autosave at an expedition flag before relationship conversations, since a poor dialogue choice can stall progress; treat that as its practical advice, not a guaranteed recovery method.

Esquie’s rank 6 conversation leads to a solo fight against Francois. Gamer Guides warns that Verso needs adequate preparation. Winning returns Esquie’s final stone, Urrie, and unlocks diving at world-map dive spots.

Lune: complete the Sirene’s Dress request
Lune’s Act 3 camp request sends the party to Sirene’s Dress for a boss encounter. Completing it is part of the route to rank 6 and the Lune music record.
Maelle: verify the rank 6 location in your route
The location is not consistent across the reviewed walkthroughs. Gamer Guides’ January 10, 2026 update places Maelle’s rank 6 request at The Reacher and describes a solo boss fight, advising players to level and equip her. PCGamesN’s relationship guide instead describes a smaller tower it calls the final Axon tower. Neither account is publisher confirmation, so the precise location is not independently established here.

Monoco: expect a duel and Sacred River quest
Monoco’s progression includes a duel against Verso and a later Sacred River quest/fight. His route provides hairstyles, a music record, and Gradient Attacks at the ranks listed above.
Maelle: answer truthfully at the final conversation
PCGamesN reports that Maelle’s final heart-to-heart requires the truthful response to advance to rank 7. An answer meant to hide or soften the truth prevents that rank-up. If you want to complete her relationship, avoid choosing a response that contradicts the truth in that conversation.

Can you romance Lune and Sciel?
Gamer Guides and PCGamesN describe brief optional romance or fling conversations with Lune or Sciel, generally around rank 4. The guides say Verso can choose only one romance per playthrough. The choice does not determine the ending and does not prevent reaching rank 7 with either character; you can max both relationships even though only one romance can be chosen on that run.
What the relationship rewards are useful for
The rank rewards mix combat abilities with exploration and completion items. Gradient Attacks are the key combat unlocks at rank 7 for all five companions, while earlier ranks can provide additional abilities such as Tree of Life, Phoenix Flame, Sanctuary, and Doom. Esquie’s rank 6 reward is functional rather than cosmetic: underwater diving opens dive spots on the world map. Music records, hairstyles, and swimsuits are additional collection and customization rewards.
