How Sciel and Lune’s romance routes differ

The relationship system opens in Act II, and story progress unlocks additional camp conversations. Romance is optional: it does not let you rewrite every relationship in the cast. Push Square describes other relationships as predetermined, with the Sciel-or-Lune decision centered on whether to engage with these optional scenes (Push Square’s romance-options guide). Relationship progression can also grant rewards such as Gradient Attacks; those rank rewards are separate from choosing a romance (Gamer Guides’ relationship guide).
Which route should you choose?
Choose Sciel for a gradual, dialogue-led route
Sciel’s route begins earlier and puts the emphasis on how Verso responds in camp conversations. The first flirtatious response is not the commitment point, so you can explore that early scene without immediately choosing her over Lune. The later decision after the second Axon is the one the Sciel guide identifies as locking in the route (Gameranx’s Sciel route guide).

Choose Lune for a later quest and music scene
Lune’s route arrives in Act III and asks you to take part in a personal quest before a later scene about helping with her song. If you would rather make the romance choice through a shared activity than earlier flirtatious exchanges, Lune is the better fit. Her route is also the one to protect if you want to avoid making a commitment before reaching Act III.
What does the choice change?
The guides describe the romance outcome as optional character content, not a meaningful change to combat or build options. Relationship ranks are still worth advancing if you want their separate progression rewards, regardless of whether you commit to either romance. In other words, choosing a route is chiefly a story preference, not a tactical decision.

The consulted guides agree that only one of these romances can be completed in a playthrough. Some player anecdotes differ, but they do not establish a reliable workaround. Treat the routes as mutually exclusive and keep a save before the commitment scene if you want the option to choose differently.

Sciel route
- At the rank 3-to-4 conversation, choose “Do you even need to ask?” to begin the flirtation. According to Gameranx, this response alone does not lock in the route.
- After the second Axon, return to camp and choose “I feel used. But I like it.” This is the commitment choice identified by the guide.
- After the Paintress, choose “Let’s celebrate” in the rank 6 scene to complete the route. Speak with Sciel again afterward to advance the relationship.
Lune route
- After defeating the Paintress and entering Act III, speak with Lune at camp and accept her request.
- Go to Sirene’s Dress. After Lune plays music at a door, defeat Chromatic Glissando and collect the Expedition Journal behind it.
- Return to camp and complete the scene to reach relationship rank 6.
- Speak with Lune again and accept helping with “your song” to finish the romance, provided you have not romanced Sciel.
These steps and dialogue selections are reported by secondary guides rather than official developer documentation. The consulted guides agree on route exclusivity, but there is no verified patch-history analysis establishing whether later updates changed these scenes.
