Spoilers for Acts II and III. The three full Renoir boss fights in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are in Old Lumiere, at the Monolith, and in Lumiere’s finale. The key priorities change each time: destroy the Manor fight’s healing petals, prepare for the Monolith fight’s second-stage summon, and manage the final encounter’s reported shields and attack sequences. An earlier Act I appearance as the White-Haired Man is sometimes counted separately, so this guide distinguishes that appearance from the three full fights.

How to beat Renoir outside the Manor
In Old Lumiere during Act II, Renoir’s defining danger is not simply his damage: the Alucare guide reports that two petals appear below roughly 50% health and that Renoir can absorb them to recover about half his health. Treat the threshold and healing amount as approximations, but make the response immediate.

- When the petals appear, switch targets and focus them rather than continuing to damage Renoir.
- Destroy them quickly. Alucare estimates that you have about two to three turns before Renoir absorbs them; this is a guide-reported estimate, not a guaranteed timer.
- Once the petals are gone, return to Renoir and keep a recovery option ready for the status effects and multi-hit attacks the guide reports.
Alucare lists Silence, Vulnerability, Exhaustion, Slow, and Weakening among the debuffs in this encounter. It also warns of a targeted Gradient attack that may remove a character from the battle if its counter is failed. Prioritize a defensive response when that attack is telegraphed; the guide’s warning should not be taken as a universal, independently verified outcome. How to beat Renoir at the Monolith
This end-of-Act-II fight escalates into a second stage. The Expedition 33 Wiki describes a bestial lion summon and fast jumping attacks in that stage; Alucare reports an enraged Renoir, a tiger-like summon, and attacks that can inflict Burn. The sources do not establish a difficulty-specific or patch-specific move list, so use these patterns as guide-reported warnings rather than a fixed script.

First stage
Alucare reports Burn-inducing attacks and multi-hit sequences. Keep enough health or healing capacity to enter the transition in workable shape, and react to the attack sequence rather than relying on a single element or fixed party setup.
Second stage
Expect the summon and faster attacks to change the rhythm. Alucare says to jump the summon’s second attack; treat that as a reported pattern and watch the sequence closely in your own fight. The guides report no elemental weakness for Renoir, so dependable damage and defenses you can execute consistently are safer priorities than trying to force an elemental match. How to beat final Renoir Dessendre
The Act III finale in Lumiere is described by the guides as a two-phase encounter separated by a cutscene. Their reported mechanics include cross and multi-hit attacks, meteors, and a black-hole-style attack. They also say Visages can provide shields and Sirene can provide healing if those Axons remain in the player’s progression. These are guide-reported details; official game material does not document Renoir’s exact move list.
- Keep healing and recovery resources available for the second phase instead of spending everything early.
- Watch for shield layers and use opportunities to remove them; Alucare recommends focusing the shields.
- Learn each attack sequence and choose the defensive timing you can land reliably. Do not assume the guides’ descriptions establish exact timing windows or a mandatory team.
Use dodge and parry consistently
Renoir-specific timing is not established by the official sources reviewed, but the game’s general defense system is. PlayStation says dodge has a larger timing window and avoids damage; a perfectly timed parry is more demanding and can enable a counterattack if you parry the enemy’s full combo. Xbox Wire likewise characterizes dodge as more forgiving and parry as harder but capable of opening counterattacks. Those are general combat fundamentals, not exact instructions for any Renoir move.
