Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 players have reported an ultrawide rendering problem, including an incorrect resolution after cutscenes. A Steam Community search excerpt attributes a response about the issue to the developers, while a community plugin called ClairObscurFix documents options for changing cutscene bars and HUD size. The forum statement could not be directly verified, and the plugin’s current compatibility is not established.
What is the ultrawide bug?
Players have described more than one ultrawide symptom: a zoomed-in view, and a resolution that appears incorrect after a cutscene. A Steam Community search excerpt gives 5120×1440 (32:9) as one user’s setup associated with the zoomed-in problem. That is an individual report, not evidence that every ultrawide or super-ultrawide display is affected.
These symptoms are distinct from letterboxing: black bars can appear in a cutscene even when the game otherwise renders at the expected resolution. A fix for one presentation issue should not be assumed to resolve the others.
What did the developers say?
A search-result excerpt for the Steam discussion attributes this statement to the developers: “We are looking into Ultra Wide optimisation and support, and we are aware of the current bug on UW monitors that causes the incorrect resolution to display after a cutscene.” The discussion page itself was blocked by an age-content interstitial, so the author and role of the speaker could not be confirmed. Treat this as a community-reported statement, not a directly verified official announcement.

Sandfall Interactive’s Steam announcement feed includes a June 11, 2025 hotfix post and a link to a bug-report form, but that post does not establish whether this ultrawide issue was later fixed or remains under active work: Sandfall Interactive’s Steam announcements. Sandfall describes Expedition 33 as its first game and a turn-based RPG for PC and new-generation consoles; Kepler Interactive is the publisher: Sandfall Interactive.
What does the ClairObscurFix plugin do?
ClairObscurFix is a community-made ASI plugin. Its README lists options to disable letterboxing or pillarboxing in cutscenes, crop letterboxing in pre-rendered movies where possible, and adjust HUD size. These are features described by the project author, not independently verified results or a guarantee that the plugin fixes the post-cutscene resolution bug.

The GitHub README says the repository was archived on August 23, 2025, and that active development moved to Codeberg. The destination and current releases were not verified, so the archived GitHub version should not be treated as current or assumed compatible with the latest game version. See the project’s ClairObscurFix README and migration notice.
Should you try the fan fix?
If your issue is cutscene bars or HUD sizing, the README describes settings aimed at those presentation concerns. If the resolution becomes incorrect after a cutscene, the available evidence does not establish that ClairObscurFix resolves it. Community search excerpts report user success with the plugin, but do not establish reliable compatibility across game versions, platforms, or display configurations.

The README recommends extracting the release ZIP into the game folder. It also gives a separate launch-option step for Steam Deck/Linux; that platform-specific instruction should not be applied as a universal Windows or console procedure. Check the README for the instructions corresponding to your platform and the version you intend to use. No current compatibility matrix is established for Steam, Game Pass, or Linux, and the cited material does not verify a console version of the plugin.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is confirmed—and what remains unclear?
- Confirmed by the project README: ClairObscurFix documents ultrawide-related cutscene and HUD options, and its GitHub repository is archived with a notice pointing to Codeberg for active development.
- Reported by community search excerpts: players have described zooming and incorrect resolution after cutscenes; one cited setup is 5120×1440 (32:9).
- Not established: whether Sandfall has since fixed the issue, whether the attributed developer statement reflects its current position, and whether the archived plugin release works with a particular current game version or platform.
An ultrawide monitor is the context for these reports, not a remedy: buying a display will not correct a game rendering bug.
