On April 22, 2025, Kepler Interactive posted “omg it’s like barbenheimer” alongside mash-up artwork showing Expedition 33 characters at an Oblivion Gate, according to PC Gamer’s contemporaneous report. Bethesda replied with a friendly image and the message “We can’t wait to play!” The exchange was lighthearted social-media banter, not a named-person statement or an announcement of a coordinated event.

Why the releases drew a Barbenheimer comparison
Oblivion Remastered arrived shortly before Expedition 33 launched on April 24, 2025. Kepler’s analogy invoked “Barbenheimer,” the nickname associated with the 2023 same-day theatrical releases of Barbie and Oppenheimer. Here, it described two prominent releases sharing a window; it did not mean the games had equivalent audiences. SEGA’s official announcement lists an April 24, 2025 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, including Steam and the Epic Games Store. SEGA’s announcement also confirms a packaged PS5 edition specifically for Japan. The game’s official Collector’s Edition page provides additional physical-edition context; it does not establish current stock, price or availability in every country. Check the edition and region before buying.
