The patch also included several unrelated quality-of-life, accessibility, and technical changes: Lumina cost visibility in the Pictos menu, optional dialogue autoplay outside cutscenes, separate volume sliders for exploration and combat, accessibility icons for Lune’s Stains, and support for GPU frame generation and low-latency enhancements. These additions were part of the same patch, but Battle Retry is the change directly aimed at making failed encounters easier to repeat.
How do I retry a battle?
- Lose a battle in a build that includes Patch 1.4.0 or later.
- When the Battle Retry Prompt appears after defeat, choose the retry option to try the encounter again.
The official description establishes that the prompt appears after defeat and offers a quick retry. It does not describe a new way to restart the campaign or a broader encounter-selection menu.

Which updates added other replayability features?
The replay-related changes did not all arrive in Patch 1.4.0. Patch 1.3.0 added a rematch and adjustable challenge conditions; the later Thank You Update added new content and tools that give players more to explore and customize.

Patch 1.3.0: repeat a boss or raise the challenge
The June 12, 2025, Patch 1.3.0 notes say Simon becomes available for a rematch after you defeat him. They also add challenge modifiers at flag checkpoints from Act III onward, including enemy HP multipliers ranging from ×2 to ×100. These are distinct from Battle Retry: they let you revisit a particular fight or change challenge conditions rather than simply retrying immediately after a loss. See the official patch notes.

Thank You Update: new area, gear, and boss challenges
The free Thank You Update rolled out in December 2025. Sandfall Interactive announced it for all platforms and regions, while PlayStation Blog’s December 11 post detailed the PS5 release. Its new area, Verso’s Drafts, adds exploration; the Endless Tower adds late-game boss challenges. The update also brought 13 weapons, 16 additional Luminas, costumes and hairstyles, Photo Mode, preset Lumina loadouts, and the ability to abandon battles. The platform’s coverage lists 33 Photo Mode filters and 10 customizable lights; it also says seven text languages were added, bringing the total to 19. Was the April 2026 anniversary update the Battle Retry patch?
No. Sandfall Interactive’s April 24, 2026, first-anniversary post described a small update adding new haircuts; it did not identify that update as the source of Battle Retry. The same post reported that the game had reached 8 million copies sold. The feature’s release was Patch 1.4.0 in July 2025, while the Simon rematch and challenge modifiers came in Patch 1.3.0 the previous month. See the anniversary announcement.

Do the updates add New Game Plus or prove longer playtime?
No New Game Plus mode is identified in the cited official update announcements. The changes offer concrete ways to retry a failed fight, repeat Simon, adjust challenge conditions, and play additional content, but the announcements do not report measured increases in player replay rates or playtime. Feature additions alone do not establish how players used them.
