The community guide says collars can be changed between runs, so class choice is a way to shape a run rather than a permanent assignment.
How classes work in Mewgenics
The game’s official Steam listing describes Mewgenics as a turn-based roguelike tactics game with class-specific collars and abilities. The community class guide explains that equipping a collar assigns its class, adds that class’s stat modifiers, and gives the cat access to its class ability pool. Without a collar, a cat is Collarless.
That makes class selection a combination of role and fit. A class may offer abilities suited to a particular job, but its stat changes can complement or conflict with the cat’s existing strengths. Compare the collar’s modifiers and ability access with the role you want the cat to fill, rather than choosing by class name alone.
All 14 classes at a glance
The following role labels are compressed summaries of the descriptions in the community-maintained Mewgenics class index, accessed October 8, 2026. They are useful starting points, not a ranking of which class is strongest.

These broad categories make it easier to spot a gap in a team, but classes can have more than one function. Check the current class and ability descriptions in-game before building around a specific effect; ability details and balance can change.
How to choose a class for a cat
- Pick the job. Decide whether the cat should deal damage up close or at range, support allies, absorb pressure, control enemies, summon help, or provide utility.
- Check the cat’s stats against the collar. The class guide lists stat modifiers for classes. Treat them as community-guide reference values, and look at the collar’s current in-game description to verify patch-sensitive numbers.
- Consider the class ability pool. Classes do not share one identical set of abilities. The index lists different ability and passive totals, so choosing a class also shapes which tools may be available to that cat.
- Think about the rest of the team. As a strategy choice, a class can be valuable because it fills a role your other cats do not cover. A damage-focused lineup, for example, may benefit from adding support or control; the best fit depends on your run and preferences.
- Reassess between runs. The community guide says collars can be changed between runs. Use that flexibility to try a different role or match a collar to a cat whose stats suit it better.
Starting classes and later unlocks
The community class guide reports that five classes are available at the start, with additional options unlocking across Acts 2 and 3. This is community-maintained progression information, not a developer-confirmed unlock table. The guide does not establish a definitive current list of which class unlocks at each point, so use the game’s own progression and collar availability as the authority for a current run.

Ability counts and what they tell you
The community index lists different ability and passive counts by class rather than a uniform total. For example, its Mage entry lists 52 abilities and 25 passives; those figures were current on the community page accessed October 8, 2026, and may change with updates. They describe the listed pool, not how many abilities a cat will have at once or a measure of class strength.
The Steam store description advertises “1000+ unique abilities (75 per class).” That is promotional copy from the official listing, not confirmation of a current identical count for every class: the October 2026 community index reports varying totals. For practical decisions, consult the in-game ability descriptions and current class pages rather than treating either figure as a balance ranking.

Is there a best Mewgenics class?
There is no universal best class established by the available class descriptions. The useful choice depends on the cat’s stats, the role you need, and which abilities you want access to. Compare those factors for the situation at hand; treat any tier list or ranking as a particular player’s judgment, not an objective rule.
Mewgenics was released on February 10, 2026, according to its Steam listing. For up-to-date class descriptions and counts, consult the community class index and its Mage entry; for the guide’s class modifiers and reported unlock progression, see the community class guide.
