The major free Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 update people called “out now” launched on December 12, 2025—not October 2026. Sandfall Interactive’s Thank You Update added Verso’s Drafts, a new playable area, alongside Photo Mode, fresh challenges, rewards and quality-of-life improvements. A smaller anniversary update followed on April 24, 2026.
When did the free Expedition 33 update come out?
Sandfall Interactive’s major Thank You Update was dated December 12, 2025, and was described as a free update to the game, not a separately priced expansion. PlayStation Blog and Xbox Wire published their coverage on December 11. The phrase “out now” belongs to that original announcement; it does not mean a new major DLC launched on October 8, 2026. What’s in the free Expedition 33 update?
Verso’s Drafts: a new playable area
The update’s biggest playable addition is Verso’s Drafts, a storybook-like environment connected with young Verso. Players can explore it with the party, encounter new battles and look for secrets. The official announcements establish that the area is included, but do not give a precise unlock prerequisite or step-by-step route. PlayStation Blog’s update overview and Xbox Wire’s update overview
Photo Mode
Photo Mode adds a free-moving camera with controls for angle and field of view, filters and effects, color grading, and customizable lighting. PlayStation Blog specifies 33 filters and 10 customizable lights. The camera can travel without collision, including into unusual “backstage” areas, according to senior gameplay programmer Florien Torres. PlayStation Blog

How the December update differs from the April 2026 update
| Update | Release date | Scale and additions |
|---|---|---|
| Thank You Update | December 12, 2025 | Major free update: Verso’s Drafts, Photo Mode, new Endless Tower boss battles and rewards, weapons, Luminas, costumes, hairstyles, music, localizations, quality-of-life changes and performance improvements. Sandfall Interactive |
| First-anniversary update | April 24, 2026 | Smaller update: new in-game haircuts plus quality-of-life and stability improvements. Sandfall Interactive and Smilegate’s anniversary report |
The April update is separate from the December content package. Sandfall’s April 24 anniversary post also reported eight million copies sold; Smilegate’s April 22 report said the soundtrack had passed 600 million YouTube streams. Those figures are dated claims from the respective companies, not current live totals.
