This is a June 14, 2025 snapshot of indie games highlighted around Summer Game Fest and Steam Next Fest—not a current release calendar. The roundup ranged from alternate selves keeping a space base alive to a family story told through photographs. Several games were still upcoming or represented by demos at the time, so check current storefront listings before making plans to play.
New indie games highlighted in June 2025
The games below were described as released or newly available in the June 14 roundup. Those statements reflect the article’s publication date, not a check of present-day availability.
The Alters
In 11 bit studios’ survival and base-building story, Jan Dolski is the sole survivor of a space expedition. He creates alternate versions of himself—“alters”—to help keep a mobile base moving and tackle its problems. The alters have different jobs, abilities, personalities, and needs, making the premise as much about managing a crew as surviving.
The June 2025 roundup listed Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass. Subscription catalogs and platform availability can change; verify current listings for your region.

Dune: Awakening
Funcom’s open-world survival MMO takes place on Arrakis in an alternate timeline inspired by Frank Herbert’s novels and Denis Villeneuve’s films. The roundup reported a Steam release that week, with early access beginning June 5 for buyers of pricier editions; console versions were described as coming later.
Its most consequential survival rule, according to the roundup, is that a sandworm death costs the player everything they are carrying. That makes exposure on Arrakis a risk to weigh against whatever you hope to collect. Herbert’s Dune is optional background, not a stated prerequisite for playing.

Instants
Endflame’s puzzle game asks players to arrange photographs in chronological order to uncover a family story. You can also decorate the photo album, and a furry companion can offer optional help. The roundup said the game debuted on Steam during the preceding Saturday’s Wholesome Direct.
MindsEye
Build A Rocket Boy’s action-adventure game drew a sharply negative launch account in the June 2025 roundup. Engadget cited glitches, bugs, performance problems, clunky gameplay, reported Sony refunds, and the absence of an in-game world map. It also reported that co-CEO Mark Gerhard alleged a coordinated effort against the game and claimed bot farms were posting negative comments and dislikes. Those are claims and reports from that period, not independently verified statements about the game’s current state.

Upcoming games and demos in the June 2025 roundup
These announcements and demo references are historical. The release windows below should not be read as confirmation of present availability.
Baby Steps
The roundup reported a September 8 release date for Steam and PS5 and said a Steam demo had arrived. In the game’s unusual control scheme, players lift and place protagonist Nate’s feet individually with controller triggers or mouse buttons, then use directional input to position him. The stated release date and demo timing have passed; check current listings for status.

Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf
Wishfully and Thunderful Publishing announced this story-driven puzzle-platformer sequel for Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation in 2026. The June 2025 article also described it as a day-one Game Pass release. Treat that window and subscription detail as the announcement reported then, rather than a current availability check.
Gecko Gods
In this exploration game, a gecko climbs across an island while trying to save a friend; the roundup emphasized that it can climb on anything. A demo appeared during Steam Next Fest, and the article listed Steam, Switch, and PlayStation for a fall release. The fall window was stated in June 2025 and needs current verification.

Grave Seasons
Perfect Garbage and Blumhouse Games set this farming and life sim in Ashenridge, where a supernatural serial killer is on the loose. The article listed PC and consoles for 2026; that was the announced window as of June 2025.
Dispatch
AdHoc Studio’s comedic narrative game puts players in the role of a superhero dispatcher managing a dysfunctional team. The roundup named Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey, Matthew Mercer, and Jeffrey Wright in the cast, and listed PC and consoles “later this year”—meaning later in 2025, in the article’s June context.

Think of these picks as a set of distinctive premises, not a live guide to what is available today. The June 2025 roundup establishes what was announced, released, or demoed around that event period; it does not establish current release status, regional platform access, subscription catalog inclusion, or whether a demo remains playable. Before choosing a game, check its current platform storefront and, for subscription access, the catalog in your region.
