If cnbbr301.dll was not found, could not be loaded, or was damaged, the failed component is usually the Canon printer driver that installed it, not Windows, DirectX, .NET, or Visual C++.

Some inventories list version 0.3.1536.1 and a size of approximately 37 KB, but these are catalog values rather than a current Canon specification. Do not use a listed size or version as proof that a downloaded copy is genuine.
Conflicting older catalog entries associate the filename with a Windows printer INF component. That does not establish that cnbbr301.dll is a core Windows file or that Microsoft distributes it as a standalone download. You may see one of these messages:

- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library cnbbr301.dll.”
- “cnbbr301.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”

A missing-file message usually means the Canon package is incomplete or the file was removed. “The specified module could not be found” can instead indicate a missing dependency. An entry-point or “not designed to run” message points more strongly to an incompatible, damaged, or wrong-architecture file.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the exact Canon printer driver
This is the most likely fix.
Remove Canon software
- Disconnect or turn off the printer.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Canon.

- Select Bluetooth & devices, then Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart the computer.
Install the correct package
- Identify the exact printer model from the printer label or its existing Windows entry.
- Open Canon’s official Software and Drivers support page.
- Search for the exact model.
- Select the installed Windows version and the applicable architecture.
- Download the current printer driver or complete driver/software package.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Connect or turn on the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after setup completes.
- Add the printer under Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners if it was not added automatically.

Canon packages can have names such as MP Drivers, Printer Driver, or Full Driver & Software Package, depending on the product family. The exact package cannot be identified without the printer model.

- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Canon printer, an unknown device, or a yellow warning symbol.
- Right-click the affected entry and select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers to remove the driver package, select that option only when it clearly belongs to the Canon printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct Canon driver from the manufacturer’s support page.
Do not use Update driver to select a random DLL or an old driver from another printer model. The package must match the model and Windows architecture.
If Device Manager shows a code such as “device cannot start,” reinstall the complete package rather than replacing cnbbr301.dll alone.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when the error began after an update, when several system components are failing, or when System File Checker identifies a damaged driver-store component. These commands are not a guaranteed way to restore a third-party Canon file.
First install pending updates:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.

- Select Run as administrator.

- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for DISM to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart when SFC completes and test the printer.
A message stating that Windows Resource Protection found no integrity violations means SFC did not find damaged protected Windows files. If it repaired files, restart and test again. If the printer still reports cnbbr301.dll, reinstall the Canon driver because SFC may not restore a vendor driver package.
If SFC says it could not repair some files, run the commands again after Windows Update completes. You can review details in:

Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
A security product may have quarantined the file after a detection update. This is only a possible cause, not a confirmed common cause for this specific DLL.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving
cnbbr301.dllor the Canon installation directory. - Check the file path and detection details.
- Do not restore the file merely because its filename looks familiar.
Restore a quarantined file only when the path belongs to the Canon installation, the package came from Canon, and the file’s digital signature and security status are trustworthy. Otherwise, remove the old installation and reinstall it from Canon’s official support page, then run a scan.

Fix 5: Check architecture and dependencies
A 32-bit Canon component can be used by a 32-bit printer utility even on 64-bit Windows. Do not assume that a 64-bit Windows installation requires every DLL to be 64-bit.
Check the application that triggers the error:
- Right-click its shortcut and select Open file location.
- Right-click the application executable.
- Select Properties, then Details.
- Note the program information and its installation folder.
- Reinstall the Canon package intended for the exact printer and Windows version.
An entry-point error can occur when an old application loads a newer or mismatched Canon component. A “module could not be found” error can mean a dependency is absent even when cnbbr301.dll is visible in a folder.
The practical fix is still a complete, matching driver installation. Avoid mixing a file from one Canon package with files from another.

No. Do not download cnbbr301.dll from a random DLL website and copy it to:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- The printer software folder
- An arbitrary application directory
The copy may have the wrong architecture, version, exported functions, digital signature, or malicious payload. It can also make later troubleshooting harder by leaving Windows with a file that does not belong to the installed driver package.

Should you run regsvr32 cnbbr301.dll
Not as a routine fix. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer; it is not a general repair command.
Running it may produce “cannot register” or an entry-point error if this driver component is not self-registering. Registering a DLL also does not restore missing dependencies or repair an incomplete printer package.

Use regsvr32 only if Canon’s documentation for the exact product explicitly instructs you to register a particular component. Otherwise, reinstall the driver.

- Remove the printer from Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Remove its Canon software from Installed apps and Programs and Features.
