Public file records describe cnbjop97.dll as part of the Canon Inkjet Printer Driver program developed by CANON INC. It belongs to a hardware driver package used by Canon printer software, setup tools, or print-related components.
It is not known to be part of Windows itself, Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or the .NET runtime. The exact Canon printer model and current installer package associated with the file cannot be confirmed from the filename alone. Several Canon models and older driver packages may use similar components.

You may see errors such as:
- “The program can’t start because cnbjop97.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because cnbjop97.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading cnbjop97.dll.”
- “Failed to load cnbjop97.dll.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library cnbjop97.dll.”
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that cnbjop97.dll itself is absent. Windows may be reporting that a dependency required by the Canon component is missing, blocked, or incompatible.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Canon printer driver
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
This is the primary repair when the error appears during printer setup, printing, opening a Canon utility, or after a printer or driver update.
1. Identify the printer model
Check the label on the printer, its display, the original paperwork, or the existing Windows printer entry. Record the complete model name, including suffixes and regional letters.

If Windows still detects the printer:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Note its exact name, then select Remove.
Do not guess the model from cnbjop97.dll. The filename is not enough to identify a compatible installer.
2. Remove the old Canon software
Open Settings, select Apps, then Installed apps. Search for entries containing Canon, IJ, printer driver, or the name of the affected printer.
Remove the Canon printer utility or driver package associated with the failed installation. Avoid uninstalling unrelated Canon software unless you know it belongs to the same printer.
Restart Windows after the uninstall completes.
3. Remove an old driver package if it remains
For a more thorough cleanup:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printui.exe /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the old Canon driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that option.
- Restart the computer.
If Windows refuses to remove the driver because it is in use, restart first and try again before reinstalling.
4. Download the matching package from Canon
Open Canon’s official support site manually and search for the exact printer model. Select the Windows 11 or Windows 10 release shown for your system, then download the complete printer driver or setup package.
Use the operating-system selector carefully. A driver for a different model may install successfully but still fail when the printer utility tries to load cnbjop97.dll.

Run the downloaded installer as an administrator:
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Show more options if necessary.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup prompts.
- Connect or power on the printer only when the installer requests it.
Restart Windows when setup finishes, then print a test page from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > your Canon printer > Printer properties > Print Test Page.
If the test page prints and the Canon utility opens without the DLL error, the repair worked. If the same message returns, continue with the architecture and dependency checks below rather than copying another DLL.

Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Windows Update may provide a basic class driver when Canon no longer offers a current package for an older printer.
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates.
- Install a Canon printer driver if one is listed.
- Restart Windows.
Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and select Add device. Allow Windows to search for the printer.
A Windows class driver may restore basic printing but not scanning, ink monitoring, maintenance tools, borderless printing, or other Canon-specific features. If those functions matter, the model-specific Canon package remains the better solution.
Fix 3: Check the driver in Device Manager
Time needed: 10–15 minutes
Device Manager can reveal whether Windows sees a failed or partially installed printer component.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Canon printer or an entry with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected entry and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider, date, and version.
If the device is disabled, select Enable device.
If the driver is clearly broken:
- Right-click the Canon device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Enable Attempt to remove the driver for this device if Windows displays the checkbox.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct Canon package from the manufacturer.
Do not replace a 32-bit Canon component with a random 64-bit DLL. A 64-bit Windows installation can still run a 32-bit Canon utility, so Windows architecture alone does not determine which file is correct. The printer model, Canon package, and application that loads the file determine compatibility.
Manually hunting through old driver versions is slow, especially when several printers and utilities are installed. Fix 4: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
If the error appeared immediately after a security scan, Windows Security may have quarantined a Canon file.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries matching the time the Canon utility stopped working.
- Expand a detection to view its path and details.
Only consider restoring a quarantined file if its path clearly belongs to the Canon installation and you have verified the installer source. Do not restore cnbjop97.dll from a browser download folder, email attachment, temporary directory, or unrelated game folder.

The safer option is usually to remove the damaged Canon installation and reinstall it from Canon’s official support portal. If Windows Security continues detecting the replacement, leave the file quarantined and investigate the detection rather than repeatedly restoring it.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use these commands when several Windows components are malfunctioning, Windows Update is damaged, or other system files are also reported as corrupt. They are secondary checks for cnbjop97.dll because the file appears to belong to Canon, not Windows’ protected system-file inventory.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for DISM to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete.
DISM repairs the Windows component image. SFC checks protected Windows files against that repaired image. SFC may report no integrity violations even when a third-party Canon DLL is missing, and it may not restore this file.
Repeating SFC will not rebuild a missing Canon printer package. If Windows checks pass but the printer error remains, return to the Canon driver cleanup and reinstall steps.

Fix 6: Use System Restore after a failed driver update
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
System Restore is appropriate when the error began directly after a Canon driver installation or Windows change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the printer stopped working.
- Select Scan for affected programs to review likely changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
System Restore does not guarantee recovery of one isolated DLL. It can also roll back other applications, drivers, and settings. If it does not resolve the issue, uninstall the Canon package and install the current model-specific driver instead.

regsvr32 is designed for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal command for restoring missing files or repairing printer drivers.
Running:
regsvr32 cnbjop97.dll
may produce an entry-point error, architecture error, or module-load error. There is no verified evidence that cnbjop97.dll is a self-registering COM DLL. Canon printer drivers are normally installed through the Canon installer, driver INF files, Windows Plug and Play, and the print spooler.

- From an incompatible Canon package.
- A different version with missing dependencies.
- Placed in the wrong directory.
- Unable to repair the printer’s driver registration or spooler configuration.
A file name alone does not prove authenticity. If a copy is found in System32 or SysWOW64, that also does not prove it is a Windows component; a third-party installer can place files there.
Use Canon’s official support portal for the exact printer model, or Windows Update when Canon no longer provides a compatible package. Microsoft also recommends obtaining printer drivers through Windows Update or the printer manufacturer.

Common causes of the error
The usual causes are:
- An incomplete or corrupted Canon driver installation.
- A wrong or legacy driver for the printer or Windows release.
- A Canon utility left behind after the printer was removed.
- Antivirus quarantine or blocking.
- A failed Windows or Canon driver update.
- A missing dependency even though

A dependency may be missing, the file may be blocked or corrupt, or the installed Canon package may be incompatible. Reinstall the complete model-specific driver instead of replacing only the named DLL.
