brpinfo.dll errors usually point to an old Microsoft PCHealth or Windows Help and Support Center component, not a modern runtime. brpinfo.dll is not supplied by Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or current Windows 10 and Windows 11 installations.
The historical file location was:
%WINDIR%PCHealthHelpCtrBinariesbrpinfo.dll
It belonged mainly to Windows Me and Windows XP-era components. If a current application requests it, first identify that application instead of downloading a replacement DLL. The requester may be obsolete, incorrectly packaged, damaged, or suspicious.

What the error means
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because brpinfo.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting brpinfo.dll.”
- “Error loading brpinfo.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because brpinfo.dll was not found.”
- “brpinfo.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named file itself is absent. Windows may have found brpinfo.dll but failed to load one of its dependencies.
Do not assume that every copy with this name is genuine. Verify the full path, digital signature, file properties, and the executable that requested it.

Fix 1: Identify the requester and file path
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
The most important first step is finding which executable is asking for the DLL.
- Reproduce the error and write down the application name.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Details.
- Look for a related process, such as an old Help Center or legacy application executable.
- Right-click the process and select Open file location.
- In File Explorer, right-click the executable, select Properties, and inspect the Details and Digital Signatures tabs.
- If the error appears during startup, open Event Viewer by pressing
Win+R, enteringeventvwr.msc, and pressing Enter. - Open Windows Logs > Application and inspect errors recorded at the same time.
A legitimate historical copy should be associated with the old PCHealth directory, not casually placed in C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, a temporary folder, or an application folder with no clear reason.
If the requester is HelpCtr.exe or another XP-era PCHealth binary on an old installation, continue with Fix 2. If a modern application requests the file, repair or reinstall that application from its original developer-provided installer instead.

Fix 2: Repair the original Windows Me or XP component
Time needed: 30 minutes to several hours
This is the correct route when the affected computer actually runs Windows Me or Windows XP and the missing file belongs to PCHealth.
Do not copy a Windows Me file onto Windows XP, or an XP file onto Windows Me. Historical versions are different. A Windows Me listing identifies version 4.90.0.2525, while XP-era evidence identifies version 5.1.2600.0. These are not universal downloads.
Use the original Windows installation media that matches the installed edition and service-pack state.

- Back up important personal files.
- Insert the matching Windows installation disc or connect the trusted installation source.
- Open My Computer or This PC and note the media drive letter.
- If Windows File Protection requests source files, provide the matching media.
- If you are using an in-place repair, start Windows Setup from the installation media while Windows is running.
- Choose the repair or upgrade option that preserves the existing installation, when offered.
- Follow Setup until Windows completes the repair.
- Restart the computer and test Help and Support Center again.
Older XP repair procedures may refer to a compressed source file named brpinfo.dl_ and the destination folder under PCHealthHelpCtrBinaries. That is a legacy procedure for matching XP media, not a general instruction for Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Success means the original PCHealth feature opens without the missing-DLL message and related Help Center files work normally. If the repair requests files repeatedly, reports an edition mismatch, or leaves the error unchanged, use a full supported repair installation or reinstall the legacy operating system from matching media.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Security software may have removed or quarantined a legitimate legacy file. It may also have correctly detected a malicious file using the same name.
In Microsoft Defender:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Privacy & security > Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections recorded when the error began.
- Expand the relevant item and inspect its original path and threat details.
Restore the file only when all of these checks agree:
- The path is the historical PCHealth directory.
- The file came from matching Windows installation media or a verified repair.
- Its Microsoft signature is valid where a signature is available.
- Its hash and file properties match the trusted source.
- A security scan does not identify it as malicious.
Microsoft warns that Defender may detect the file again after restoration if it is genuinely unsafe. If the file was in an unexpected directory, or if a similarly named file such as brpinfo32.dll is involved, do not restore it. Run a full scan and, if necessary, Microsoft Defender Offline.

Fix 4: Repair supported Windows system files
Time needed: 15–45 minutes
DISM and System File Checker apply to supported modern Windows versions. They do not recreate a missing Windows XP PCHealth component, but they can repair broader component-store or protected-system corruption that is causing related startup problems.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window while it is working.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and repeat the action that produced the error.
If SFC says it found and repaired corrupt files, test the application again. If it says it could not repair some files, restart and run the commands once more. If DISM cannot find source files, use a matching Windows installation source rather than an arbitrary DLL.
Repeating these commands without checking what changed can make troubleshooting needlessly difficult. Fix 5: Use System Restore after a known change
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
Use this when the error began after malware removal, a cleanup utility, an incomplete update, or an application installation, and a restore point from before the change exists.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the first
brpinfo.dllerror. - Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the applications, drivers, and updates that will be removed or rolled back.
- Select Next > Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, drivers, updates, and installed programs. It normally does not remove personal documents, but back up important data first.
Success means the original program starts and the error does not return. If no restore point exists, use Windows recovery or repair options instead of placing a downloaded DLL into a system folder.
Fix 6: Repair or reinstall the application that requests the file
Time needed: 15–60 minutes
If a third-party program requests brpinfo.dll, the program may contain an obsolete reference to a Windows Help component. It may also have an incomplete installation.

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the application shown in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair and test the application.
- If Repair is unavailable or ineffective, select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the current installer from the application developer’s official website or use the original trusted media.
- Install the program again and test it before restoring old configuration files.
If the program is too old for Windows 10 or Windows 11, contact its developer or run it only in a supported legacy environment. Do not substitute the historical Microsoft DLL unless the application’s vendor specifically confirms that it requires that exact component.

Time needed: 15–30 minutes
brpinfo.dll is not established as a printer, graphics, sound, or device-driver runtime. A driver update is therefore not a primary fix. Check drivers only if the error is clearly launched by a hardware utility or appeared immediately after a device installation.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the affected device.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and driver date.
- Select Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- If the problem began after a driver update, select Roll Back Driver when available.
Windows Features will not normally provide this DLL. Do not enable random legacy features as a substitute for repairing the actual application or operating-system component.
Manually checking dozens of device models and driver versions is slow when the real problem is an obsolete application. Do not copy brpinfo.dll to System32
Downloading a DLL from a random DLL repository is unsafe. The file may contain malware, belong to a different Windows release, have the wrong architecture, or fail because another dependency is missing. It can also hide the actual cause, such as a damaged application or compromised installer.
Copying a 32-bit legacy DLL into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is usually inappropriate. Folder names do not make an incompatible file valid. The historical evidence points to brpinfo.dll being a 32-bit PCHealth component, and there is no verified current 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 package to install.
Use matching Windows installation media, the affected application’s official installer, Windows repair tools, or Microsoft recovery options instead.

Do not blindly run regsvr32
Do not use this as a generic fix:
regsvr32 brpinfo.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs designed to register COM or similar components through entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A resource or library DLL may not export that entry point, and registration will not repair a missing dependency or a damaged PCHealth installation.

FAQ
Is brpinfo.dll a Microsoft file?
The genuine historical component is associated with Microsoft PCHealth and Windows Help and Support Center. That does not make every file named brpinfo.dll trustworthy. Path, signature, and origin matter.
Is brpinfo.dll required by Windows 11 or Windows 10?
Generally no. Current Windows does not normally require this legacy PCHealth DLL. A modern program requesting it should be investigated as obsolete, incorrectly packaged, damaged, or potentially compromised.
Is it part of Visual C++ or DirectX?
No verified evidence identifies it as a Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, printer-driver, or general-purpose runtime file.
Why does Windows say the specified module could not be found?
