“cnbjop98.dll is missing from your computer” and “The code execution cannot proceed because cnbjop98.dll was not found” are common forms of the error. The cnbjop98.dll message usually points to an incomplete, damaged, incompatible, or quarantined Canon printer-driver component rather than a missing Windows runtime.
The 60-second answer
cnbjop98.dll is associated with the Canon Inkjet Printer Driver program developed by Canon Inc. It is a driver file, not a standard Windows component, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or .NET assembly.

The safest fix is:
- Identify the Canon printer connected to the computer.
- Remove the affected Canon printer software and old driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the driver for the exact printer model and installed Windows version from Canon’s official Software and Drivers support page.
- Install it, restart again, and print a test page.
Do not download cnbjop98.dll from a random DLL website and copy it into System32. That can provide the wrong version or architecture, introduce malware, and leave the damaged printer installation unresolved.

You may see one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because cnbjop98.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading cnbjop98.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because cnbjop98.dll was not found.”
- “cnbjop98.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library cnbjop98.dll.”
- “Cannot register cnbjop98.dll.”
The wording helps identify the failure:
- Missing or not found: The file may have been deleted, quarantined, or never installed correctly.
- Specified module could not be found: Windows may be unable to find a dependency required by the DLL. The named file is not always the only missing component.
- Not designed to run on Windows: The file may be corrupt, incompatible, the wrong architecture, or paired with a damaged dependency.
- Entry point not found: A program may be loading an incompatible version of the driver component.
- Error at startup only: An obsolete Canon utility or scheduled startup entry may still be launching after the printer software was removed.
The error can appear when Windows starts, when opening a Canon utility, or when printing. Note when it occurs before changing anything, because that distinguishes a printer-driver problem from a leftover utility.

What is known about cnbjop98.dll
Public file indexes associate the filename with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver and CANON INC. However, Canon does not publicly identify this filename with one specific printer model in its normal support documentation.
That means you should not assume that it belongs to a particular PIXMA or multifunction printer. Several Canon packages may also be installed on one computer. Removing the wrong package can affect another printer.
Third-party listings report different builds and file details, including a 32-bit entry, but those listings are not Canon confirmation. Do not use a reported file size, version, hash, or architecture as the basis for replacing the file manually.

The installed copy may be 32-bit even when Windows is 64-bit. A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit Canon utility if the correct Canon package supplies it. The correct choice is determined by the printer model, Windows release, and Canon package, not by downloading an x86 or x64 DLL separately.
Fix 1: Identify the printer and reinstall its Canon driver
This is the most likely fix for cnbjop98.dll.
Find the printer model
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Look for the Canon printer name and model number.
- If it is not listed, check the label on the printer or the original purchase documentation.
- Write down the exact model, including letters and numbers.
Do not use a generic PIXMA driver when the model is known. Canon’s support system separates downloads by product and operating system.
Download the correct package
- Open Canon’s official Software and Drivers support page.
- Search for the exact printer model.
- Select the installed Windows version.
- Choose the available architecture when Canon provides that choice.
- Download the printer driver or the complete Canon setup package.
- Prefer the package described as a printer driver, MP Drivers, IJ Printer Driver, Wireless Printer Driver, or Master Setup when it matches your model.
Canon product pages can also separate drivers, software, firmware, manuals, and compatibility information. Do not substitute firmware or a scanner-only package for the printer driver.
Remove the broken installation
Before uninstalling, disconnect the printer’s USB cable if it is connected. For a network printer, leave the printer powered on but do not start the Canon setup yet.
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Remove Canon software that clearly belongs to that printer, such as its printer driver, setup utility, or device utility.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove Canon software for another printer unless you have confirmed that it belongs to the same device.
For stubborn driver remnants:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
printui.exe /s /t2and press Enter. - Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the Canon driver that matches the removed printer.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package when Windows offers that option.
- Restart Windows.
If Windows says the driver is in use, return to Printers & scanners, remove any remaining Canon queues, restart, and try again. Advanced users can also review Print server properties from printer settings, but avoid deleting a driver shared by another working printer.

Install and test
- Run the Canon installer downloaded for the exact model.
- Follow its connection instructions.
- Connect the USB cable only when the installer requests it.
- For a network printer, allow the installer to discover the printer or enter its network details as requested.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Return to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Choose Print a test page.
The repair worked if the test page prints and the Canon utility opens without the DLL error. If printing works but the message still appears at startup, continue to the startup and leftover-software checks below.
Manually comparing dozens of driver versions is slow, especially when Windows has retained an old package. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation and repair require the full version. For a Canon printer, use the exact Canon package as the definitive source.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Fix 2: Check whether security software quarantined the file
Antivirus software may remove a damaged or suspicious driver component. Do not restore the file blindly.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
cnbjop98.dll, Canon software, or the printer installer. - Review the detected file path and action.
Restore the file only if all of these are true:
- The file was inside the Canon installation directory.
- The printer and Canon package are known to be genuine.
- The package came from Canon’s official support page.
- The security product identifies the file as a false positive or allows the trusted installer.
If the file was found in a random folder, a temporary directory, or a location unrelated to Canon software, leave it quarantined. Run a full Microsoft Defender scan and reinstall the printer software from Canon instead.
A file with the right name can still be an impersonating DLL. The filename alone does not prove that the installed copy is legitimate.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
SFC and DISM are not normal replacements for a Canon driver. Use them when several unrelated Windows features are failing, Windows reports protected-file corruption, or the Canon installer fails because the operating system is damaged.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Select Run as administrator.
- At the prompt, run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows when both commands finish.
DISM repairs the Windows image. SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command is expected to restore a third-party Canon driver DLL unless Windows specifically identifies that file as a protected system component.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing whether Windows found corruption rarely fixes a missing printer package. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling the Canon package remains the direct fix for a missing Canon driver component.
Fix 4: Check architecture and compatibility
A 32-bit Canon utility may load a 32-bit driver component on 64-bit Windows. Installing a random 64-bit replacement is not a valid repair.
Check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type under Device specifications.
Then return to the Canon product page and select the matching Windows release and architecture where Canon provides those choices.

If Canon offers no driver for your Windows version, the printer may be a legacy model that is no longer supported. In that case:

- Check whether Windows can add it using a compatible built-in printer driver.
- Check Canon’s compatibility information for the model.
- Try the latest Canon package explicitly listed for your Windows version.
- Use an older supported Windows environment only where practical and secure.
- Consider replacing the printer if no compatible driver exists.
Copying an old DLL into System32 does not make an incompatible driver work.
Fix 5: Do not register this DLL with regsvr32 by default
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer or DllInstall. It is not a general-purpose missing-DLL repair command.
Do not begin with:
regsvr32 cnbjop98.dll
A printer-driver DLL is normally installed and configured by the Canon installer or Windows printer-driver system. Running regsvr32 may produce an entry-point error, use the wrong architecture, or change nothing.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use regsvr32 only when Canon’s own documentation for the exact package explicitly instructs you to register that component.
Fix 6: Check for a leftover startup utility
If printing works but the error appears only when Windows starts, the printer driver may be fine. An obsolete Canon utility may still be launching.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for Canon entries related to the removed printer.
- Select an obsolete entry and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Also check Settings → Apps → Installed apps and remove Canon utilities that no longer belong to any installed printer. Do not disable a utility that controls a printer you still use until you know what it does.

- Restart and run the Canon installer.
Device Manager may not provide the complete Canon utility package. The manufacturer’s model-specific installer is still the preferred repair.
Windows Features generally does not contain a feature that installs cnbjop98.dll. Enabling .NET Framework, DirectX, or Visual C++ components is not an evidence-based fix for this particular file.
Frequently asked questions
Is cnbjop98.dll part of Windows?
No evidence establishes it as a standard Windows component. It is associated with a Canon inkjet printer-driver package. A third-party listing that labels it as a Windows system file does not override the Canon driver classification.
Which Canon printer installed it?
The exact model cannot be identified from the filename alone. Check Printers & scanners, the printer label, or previous Canon software, then use that model on Canon’s support page.
Should I download the DLL separately?
No. A standalone DLL may be malicious, incompatible, the wrong architecture, or missing required dependencies. Reinstall the complete Canon driver package instead.
Will reinstalling Visual C++ fix it?
There is no evidence that a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable specifically installs this file. Reinstalling a runtime should not be the first response to this error.

The named DLL may be present while one of its dependencies is missing. Remove and reinstall the complete Canon package rather than copying only cnbjop98.dll.
What if the error continues after reinstalling?
Confirm that the correct printer model and Windows architecture were selected. Check Protection history, remove stale driver packages, run DISM and SFC only if Windows corruption is suspected, and test from another Windows user account if the failure affects only one profile.
If Canon provides no compatible driver for the printer, a built-in compatible driver or replacement printer may be the practical solution. A copied DLL will not restore support for an obsolete driver.
