Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →cnblm3_2.dll is a Canon printer-driver component, not a general Windows runtime. If Windows says cnblm3_2.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or remove the Canon printer installation that registered it instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is associated with the legacy Canon BJ Language Monitor3_2 print component. Windows loads language-monitor DLLs through the Print Spooler to help communicate with a printer and control print jobs. It is not part of Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a normal application.

Before you repair cnblm3_2.dll
Check which situation applies:
- You still use the Canon printer: reinstall the complete driver for the exact model.
- You no longer use the printer: remove the old printer and its driver package.
- Printing stopped after an upgrade or cleanup: remove the stale Canon registration, then install a compatible package.
- The file was quarantined: inspect Windows Security before restoring anything.
- The file is outside a printer-driver location or lacks Canon provenance: scan the computer instead of trusting the filename.
The exact Canon printer model matters. Public information does not establish every model that used this file, and an old package may not support your current Windows version.

Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Canon printer driver
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the most likely fix because cnblm3_2.dll belongs to a Canon print-monitor installation. Reinstalling the complete package also restores dependencies and print-spooler registration that copying one DLL cannot restore.

- Scan & Copy Handling - Utilize the device’s integrated scanner for efficient scanning and copying operations
- Find the printer model from its label, the printer display, or the existing Windows printer entry.
- Open Canon’s official Software and Drivers support page.
- Select the exact printer model.
- Select Windows 10 or Windows 11 as appropriate.
- Select the correct system architecture if Canon presents that choice.
- Download the newest compatible driver or full driver-and-software package.
- Disconnect the USB printer if Canon’s installer requests it. For a network printer, make sure it is connected to the same network.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Restart Windows when installation finishes.
- Print a test page.
To print a test page, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the Canon printer, choose Printer properties, and select Print Test Page.
If the test page prints and the startup message disappears, the repair worked. If Canon does not offer a package for the model and your Windows version, do not force an unrelated driver. Remove the obsolete package and use a supported Windows printer driver or a compatible Canon package where available.
Windows can use a 32-bit printer component on a 64-bit installation when the complete driver package is designed for that arrangement. Do not download a DLL based only on whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Recommended Free Tools
If manually identifying the correct model, architecture, and package is taking longer than the repair itself, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale or mismatched drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation through the full version is optional. For this Canon-specific file, the manufacturer’s model-specific package remains the definitive source.
Fix 2: Remove the stale Canon printer and driver
Time needed: 10–15 minutes
Use this fix when printing works but the error appears during startup, or when the Canon printer is no longer used. In that situation, Windows may still be trying to load an old language monitor even though its DLL was removed.
Remove the printer
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the old Canon printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart the computer.
If the printer is still listed afterward, remove it from the classic interface:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Right-click the obsolete Canon printer.
- Select Remove device.
Remove the old driver package
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
printui.exe /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Select the obsolete Canon driver.
- Choose Remove.
- Select Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that option.
- Restart Windows.
If Windows says the driver is in use, restart the Print Spooler first:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- Repeat the driver-removal steps.
Do not delete random files from System32, SysWOW64, or the Driver Store. The goal is to remove the printer and its registered driver together.

If you still need the printer, reinstall the correct Canon package after the restart. If you do not need it, test Windows startup and confirm that the message no longer appears.
Fix 3: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an old printer component. Check this before searching for a replacement file.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open any detection associated with
cnblm3_2.dll. - Note the file path and detection reason.
Restore or allow the file only when all of these are true:
- It came from a Canon driver installation you recognize.
- The path is consistent with a printer-driver installation.
- The Canon package and its digital signature can be trusted.
- A security scan does not report a current threat.
If the file appeared by itself, is stored in an unrelated application folder, or has no trustworthy Canon origin, do not allow it. Reinstall the printer from the official Canon support process and run a full Windows Security scan instead.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
DISM and System File Checker are useful when other Windows components are also damaged. They are not expected to recreate a missing third-party Canon DLL, so use them as a secondary repair rather than the first step.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test printing and check whether the error returns. If both commands complete without resolving the message, return to the Canon driver or stale-registration fixes.
When repeated manual scans and repair commands make it difficult to see what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows problems and show its findings; repair through the full version is optional, and it is not required for every case. Because this file is Canon-owned, reinstalling or removing the Canon driver is still the direct repair.
Fix 5: Check the driver in Device Manager
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Device Manager may identify a broader printer or USB problem, although it may not display the language-monitor DLL by name.

- Seamless Multi-Page Handling - Tackle multi-page documents with ease using the Auto Document Feeder (ADF) for quick scanning and copying
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers and Print queues.
- Look for the Canon printer or a device with a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Review the General tab for an error code.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver only if the problem began immediately after a driver update.
- Otherwise, select Uninstall Device if you plan to reinstall the complete Canon package.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct Canon driver.
Do not use Update driver to select a random DLL. Device Manager installs driver packages, not individual print-monitor files.
Fix 6: Check optional Windows printing features
Time needed: 5 minutes
A disabled Windows printing feature can cause wider printing problems, though it is not normally the source of cnblm3_2.dll.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review features related to printing, document services, or legacy printer support.
- Do not enable a feature solely because its name sounds related to Canon.
- If a known Windows printing feature was recently disabled, restore its previous setting.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
For a normal Canon printer installation, use the Canon driver package rather than enabling unrelated legacy components.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is generally not the correct repair for a printer language monitor. These components are installed through printer-driver files and print-spooler registration, not ordinary application-style COM registration.
Running commands such as these is therefore not a reliable fix:
regsvr32 cnblm3_2.dll
It can produce another error, register the wrong architecture, or leave the printer installation inconsistent. Reinstall the complete driver or remove the obsolete printer registration instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not download cnblm3_2.dll separately
Random DLL download sites create several risks:
- The file may contain malware.
- It may be the wrong version or architecture.
- It may come from a different Canon package.
- A missing dependency may remain unresolved.
- Windows may still have a stale print-monitor registration.
- Copying it into
System32,SysWOW64, or an application folder may make the installation harder to repair.
The safe sources are Windows itself for Windows components and Canon’s official support process for Canon printer drivers. Canon’s download selection requires the printer model and Windows version because printer packages are not universal.

What caused the error
The common causes, in practical order, are:
- A broken, incomplete, or obsolete Canon printer-driver installation.
- A Windows upgrade or system migration that left an old print-monitor registration behind.
- Defender or another security product quarantining the file.
- An incompatible legacy driver or architecture mismatch.
- A missing dependency reported as “the specified module could not be found.”
- Broader Windows or print-subsystem corruption.
- A tampered or malicious file stored outside a legitimate printer-driver location.
The filename alone does not prove malware, and its presence in a Windows directory does not prove that it is a current Windows component.
FAQ
Is cnblm3_2.dll a Windows system file?
No reliable evidence shows that it ships as a Microsoft Windows component. It is associated with Canon’s BJ Language Monitor3_2 printer component.
Is cnblm3_2.dll safe?
A genuine copy installed by a Canon printer package can be legitimate. Verify its path and provenance rather than trusting the filename. Scan suspicious copies with Windows Security.
Should I put the file in System32?
No. The correct installation location depends on the driver package and Windows print subsystem. Copying the file manually can create an architecture mismatch or leave the registration broken.

If the warning appears only during startup, remove the obsolete Canon printer and driver registration. A stale monitor reference is more likely than an active printing failure.
What if Canon has no driver for my printer?
Remove the obsolete package and check whether Windows offers a compatible class or IPP driver. If the printer requires unsupported legacy software, replacing the driver or printer may be more reliable than restoring one old DLL.
Should I use System Restore?
Use it only when the problem clearly began after a known driver, Windows, or system-image change. System Restore can revert applications, settings, and updates installed after the selected restore point.
